23 RisposteEconomic analysis of how different markets would look in destiny. So I have seen many people begging for trading to be added, and I personally am a fan of economies, however, It is a dangerous aspect to add to the game, and i think there are many factors that must be taken into accountif something like this were to be implimented, because if done improperly, could be catasrophic. Firstly I would like to point out that any type of trading would open up Sub-markets. (i.e. Runners: "I will run you through Crotas end, for X weaopn.") this is a market that inevitably will upset many people. Next, Lets look at the implications if full capatalist trading abilities were opened in the game. (you could trade glimmer, materials, weapons, etc.) I am completly for this type of system, and think it would work the most efficently and fairly, because a fully functioning economy would develop, however, the following things would need to be removed for the market to operate efficently: 1. Glimmer Cap: The Glimmer cap would create an artificial price ceiling. an economy would inevitably move towards having a currency that would be standard currency. and glimmer is the most obvious. however, with the glimmer cap, there will be a price ceiling in place. the rarest items could not go for more then 25K glimmer. Now inevitably, things like network keys and axiomatic beads, would be used as bonds for trading, in order to have prices be closer to the market equilibrium. however, this will start to present liquidity issues, because glimmer cannot be converted into the bonds, and the seller would not be able to recieve the 25k glimmer unless his glimmer is depleted. this glimmer restriction we for a functioning economy, we would need a currency which we could hold an unlimited amount of. 2.Cheeses: currently, cheesing is not a huge concern (and still people constantly fight about it) but with an economy, it would become a huge concern. if an economy is implimented into the game. then people would farm activities the quickest way possible to aquire items of value. Cheesing the game would turn into a business. cheesing would constantly be done to falsly aquire items to sell. I could go on and on... but i think the catastrophic effects of this should be rather clear. If the capabilities of cheesing cannot be removed from the game, then their would need to be a list of bannable offenses, and a warning that the player recieves when they are attempting to do those offenses. because these would border on theft. 3. XUR!: Xur could possibly be the worst thing that a game economy could have. markets work on a method of supply and demand. Price is affected by these factors. Xur has an unlimited supply, and he also has a set price. These most common cause of market failure is set price levels that are not affected by the market. say if a player has a thunderlord, and the going price for thunderlord in the current market is equivilent to 100 strange coins, due to thunderlord having a low supply and high demand. but then Xur comes in offering the same gun for the artificial price of 23 strange coins with an unlimited supply to sell, the thunderlord market market would experience a huge crash. So every week an exotic item would experince a price crash. but furthermore, a mini crash would occur each week right before xur comes in the market for every exotic weapon. In anticipation of Xur selling any item, exoics will experience a rush of sellers trying to sell them, and a reluctance of buyer wishing to buy at the end of each week, making a dip in prices just before xur shows up. causing an artificial crash in all exotic items each week, in a fear of Xur selling them. Such a turbulant market would be a horrible and unbalanced trading system. Alternate Systems A counter argument is that the market should only be for trading weapons and armor, but it would be a mistake to think this would not spawn "stores" of loot, where weapons would have market values, and weapons themselves would be used as currency. This type of system would have even less liquidity, then a full free market. Which makes the market much less efficent, and the market crashes would be even more detrimental to players. I think that if a market was implimented, for the optimal success, it would need to be fully free market, and the things above would NEED to be removed entirely from the game. -PhD in Economics (I hate using this to "justify" myself, but with this topic, I feel it is important to list my qualifications)

NO TRADING!

Not gonna happen

Destiny is like runescape before it became Runescape 3. RS: Maces, swords, battleaxes, everything useless for training.. apart from scimitars Destiny: Everything is useless in crucible but Auto Rifles and Hand Cannons, which are both op (specials and heavies not included).

Ill give you mine for 39k

1 RispondiI personally Enjoy keeping what I find.

1 RispondiDestiny's items/crafting/economy are too small and simplified for any sort of auction system to work. They will never add trade because they want to lengthen people's play time. Trading would shorten it. Forcing people through the RNG is the only thing keeping Destiny afloat.

Yup, Make it simple. You can trade Legendary for Legendary, or Exotic for Exotic. Drop item off at AH, click what items you would accept for trade for that item. Someone has what you wants and wants what you have, trade is done. No, 5 legendaries for 1 Exotic crap like that, need to keep the real world currency out of the game as much as possible,

14 RisposteNo trading...play the game....trading would ruin this game...and bungie would lose all the customers like myself...the people that play the game for gameplay and think the loot is just a bonus :)

1 RispondiI wouldnt mind trading, but selling is a bad idea. You should see the broker on dc universe. People selling silly shit for $1,000,000. Then people get bored and leave the game because they've bought everything they want. At least with trading, you can limit it to weapons/armor only, or leave glimmer out of it. There is also the possibility that some of the lucky people that get multiple vexs will hand them out like candy. Imagine a pvp where 4 out of six players is using the vex or ghorn. Ive seen good teams get destroyed because 2 guys on the other team had a vex. 4 would cause multiple back outs. Just my opinion. I like the idea of trading, but i think it would ultimately ruin destiny.
