Really OP? Taking Halo back to its roots won't solve anything. Legendary Slayer was so unsuccessful it was removed after a month of populations lower than 1K.
Theoretically, if people wanted classic Halo, they should have flocked to Legendary Slayer because that was the closest thing vanilla Halo. Instead, Infinity Slayer stayed on top.
Hylebos said it so well, I need to repeat it every time. Halo 4 suffers from the fact that it doesn't reward you enough for what you do. In past Halo games, when you reach the top, you feel like you're standing on a mountain. With Halo 4, you're standing on a mole hill.

Modificato da snqrls: 10/3/2013 11:29:16 AMas a theory i think it's likely legendary slayer failed for a few reasons, namely the precision weapon starts, low population and subsequent lag, the maps, and retraining time. Infinity slayer was so easy it makes it hard to go back to playing how halo was played. Unfortunately.
-
I can only partly understand the weapon starts. Automatic starts have been a staple of Halo since Halo CE. It did not always have a low population. When it first came out, it was in the top three. What restraining time? You're given the same amount of time as past Halo games. No it doesn't. I managed perfectly fine, and sure others did too. Still, that only serves my point further that people don't want Classic Halo anymore.

if people didn't want classic halo anymore than how come the "classic" halo games retained a much larger population far longer than Halo 4 ever did. Halo 4 tried to be more like CoD. Loadouts, Killstreaks, exp system unlocking minor attributes, sprint. The problem is people already play that game, they played Halo because it was different. All those features mentioned CoD does better, Halo had more of a individual feel to the game. You could carry your team more in past halo games. I think Halo needs to go back to that formula where a skilled player can dominate the game and lead his team to victory. Also instant respawn is the dumbest thing ever created. I'd be fine if Halo made changes, just not changes that make the distinction between Halo and CoD difficult.
if people didn't want classic halo anymore than how come the "classic" halo games retained a much larger population far longer than Halo 4 ever did.
Really? Are you seriously asking that question? The fallacy is incredible. It's because that's what people wanted back then. Towards the end of Halo 3's career, the gaming industry began a shift from arena shooter to class shooter.
Loadouts
Which have been present since Reach.
Killstreaks,
Which actually require skill to use, and if you fail at using it, then the enemy gets to use it. Is it fair? No. Is it bounds fairer than CoD? Yes.
exp system
Which has been present since Reach. Although I will say this, I hope Halo moves closer to CoD's XP system. What's so good for them is that they reward you significantly more XP based on how well you and your team does.
sprint
Funny enough, many average Halo players I talked to wanted Sprint consolidated into a base player trait because they used it so much as an AA in Reach.
The problem is people already play that game, they played Halo because it was different.
That's far from the truth. When Halo entered the scene, it entered a shooter market saturated with Arena Shooters. Halo's success even made other companies try and copy Halo's formula.
You could carry your team more in past halo games. I think Halo needs to go back to that formula where a skilled player can dominate the game and lead his team to victory.
I agree, but this can exist in the new direction Halo is headed in.
Also instant respawn is the dumbest thing ever created.
The majority of the gamer market is made up of casual players. Not everyone can sit down for a serious match, or even want to. Instant Respawn is good for those who just want to be in and out as fast as possible.
I'd be fine if Halo made changes, just not changes that make the distinction between Halo and CoD difficult.
You think these changes make Halo hard to differentiate from CoD? How about you take a look at Titanfall or Destiny. Those two resemble CoD way more than Halo 4 does.

I should have been more specific that Reach started the downfall of Halo's population. Seems to correlate to the change from arena to class based shooter. Also lack of a ranking system seems to have deterred a bunch of players especially since before Halo 4 was released 343i was bombarded with so many questions about it that they decided to put some half assed system into waypoint to try and keep people playing. People already were saying put in a ranking system or Im not gonna play and it happened. The instant respawn for casuals is fine just don't make it the focus for the online gaming community. I wish 343 would experiment putting different playlists at the top and moving infinity slayer to the bottom of the playlists to see if the population would change. But from rumors I heard it seems that infinity slayer will be used more in a big team setting in the next game and smaller player gametypes will go back to an arena style so hopefully that is true.
Theoretically, if people wanted classic Halo, they should have flocked to Legendary Slayer because that was the closest thing vanilla Halo. Instead, Infinity Slayer stayed on top.
Well, Classic Halo fans can't play Legendary Slayer if they all left :)
-
I'm a classic Halo fan. My friends are classic Halo Fans.
-
I'm one too, I was just stating that Classic fans can't play something if they're not there to play it. You got to admit, MOST Classic fans left Halo 4. Why would the Infinity crowd play Legendary?
-
On what basis did you reach that conclusion?
-
If you are asking about classic fans leaving, http://majornelson.com/2013/10/02/live-activity-for-week-of-sept-30/. Almost everybody left. The only ones left are the minority that likes Infinity, or the Die hard fans.
-
Yet the irony is that when the population was at 450K the most played playlist was Infinity Slayer. At the time, there were other playlists with more barebones settings. If all those classic people left, why has Infinity Slayer been the top dog of the playlists?
-
That was the MAIN Slayer playlist. Infinity WAS Halo 4, not Pro. Once people saw that Classic Halo was shoved to a playlist with crap settings, and Infinity was the way Halo 4 played, they left.
-
No it wasn't. There are other playlists to play. Heck even B.net members dusted off Halo 4 for Legendary Slayer. Yet the population still dropped. You have literally no basis on your claim because you haven't even polled anyone who stopped playing Halo 4? Also, how do you know all those people outright stopped playing Halo 4? What if they play it less frequently?
-
ADMIRALS! You down for some Halo Wars?
-
Camnator, is that you?
-
Oh, ya, haha!
-
You and your infinite alts... Lol Anyway, don't know yet if I'll be able to. If it works out, we'll probably do it on the later side of the day.
-
Really OP? Taking Halo back to its roots won't solve anything.
I disagree. It'll solve everything by ending this insipid debate. -343 makes H5 a clone of H3 with new features. -Population plummets because the only people this new game appeals to is the core Halo fans. -Population continues to plummet because even Halo fans eventually leave (Halo is nearing two decades old as a franchise) and because the low population entices people to leave as well. -Halo franchise lies dead. -Now the debate is over because the franchise is dead and the "Return Halo to it's Roots!" players soundly defeated.
-
Population plummets? The peak population for h4 right now is about 17k a day. I would bet my life a H3 clone would pull double that.
-
While true, I'd rather have this idiotic debate continue so I can find out what happens with Chief.
