A post I made in another thread reminded me of this. ADD/ADHD is characterized by a lack of motivation and attentiveness. They prescribe medication which increases dopamine in the brain to increase motivation and desire to learn.
Hell, I think everyone should be put on this. We would be a more productive society. Even if people argue that ADD is not caused by any actual condition, just regular inattentiveness, why not treat it anyway?
Also if you have ADD, please share what you take and how much, and anything relating to your experience.

The problem is that doctors are way to eager to medicate a problem that may not actually exist. I don't argue that there is no problem. Some kids have serious issues, like high functioning forms of Autism. But to medicate little Johnny's boredom away is asinine. Drugs are big, big business, and a lot of doctors will medicate for any problem. It's honestly no different than back in the last century when people would pedal false cures. Of course, Big pharmaceuticals tend to be a bit more powerful then your traveling snake oil peddler. I question the long term effects of a lot of these pills. Does it change people mentally?

2 RisposteI think it's because a lot of kids that are just hyper or bored get diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, when they really are just hyper or bored. Almost any kid can fit the description for ADD or ADHD, and pretty easily get diagnosed with it. My teachers tried to get my parents to put me on meds when I was in elementary school (before ADD and ADHD became a big thing). My parents thought (and still think) that putting children on meds for things like that is wrong. In most cases, I would agree with them. As I'm older now, I recognize that I clearly have ADD, but I've never taken medication for it. I have to work a little harder to pay attention and get stuff done, or to motivate myself to do assignments, but I can get it done. Except for extreme cases, I think medication is entirely unnecessary. I think the extent to which ADD and ADHD are being diagnosed now is ridiculous, especially at really young ages. My neighbor's kid was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 3. Being a hyper kid used to be part of being a kid. Now it's a medical disorder.

2 RisposteOut of curiosity, anyone here want to share what ADD medications they take? I'm really interested in seeing if anyone takes Methamphetamine, or Desoxyn. If so, how did you get that prescription? I'm just curious as to what qualifies as extreme enough to treat with meth.

1 RispondiAcknowledging that disorders like ADD/ADHD exist means that you're also acknowledging a lot of complicated stuff like brain chemistry, etc. It also means that you're acknowledging that some people have conditions that they can't control or even fully explain. It's so much easier to just assume that everyone with one of those disorders is a liar who is just too lazy to focus.

Probably because there is nothing that says for sure this kid has ADHD and this kid doesn't. Even if there was plenty of people act like those with diseases or health problems don't have them even when evidence is put in front of them. Simply put if you have a health problem expect the people to think of you as a liar.
