I’ll keep it simple. The vendors no longer have ranks, which means you don’t get bonus engrams for playing.
In order to get bonus engrams you have to get event tokens, which is rewarded by daily challenges.
You only get 3 a day, unless you buy rerolls. Which is a buck a reroll.
This would only be a minor annoyance if it wasn’t for the fact that weapon drops in these events are abysmal and when you do get them, they are often of low quality.
I want to farm for the crossbow, but I’ve played a few hours every day (I’ve probably put in about 15-20 hrs all week). I’ve had 2 drops. I’ve used tokens and have gotten level 3 junk.
In the end, if I want to increase my chances, then I need to do more challenges. In order to do that I have to spend money. Thus: pay to win.

You can get bonus engrams just by completing matches If you want to increase your chances then wait when drop rate isn't as low.

9 RisposteGetting the crossbow doesn't count as a "Win" though, so you're not actually paying to win.
