Firing Range Podcast Recap if You Missed it

This stream was with Coolguy, FalloutPlays, Cammycakes, Drewsky, and Mercules. These five got to discuss with two Bungie Sandbox Devs on their plans and opinions on the sandbox. I’m going to summarize some of the stuff they talked about, if you missed it. -Bungie is looking into shifting away towards more gunplay and less ability spam -Bungie is looking into more building crafting and attention to detail in builds -Ideas of abilities/grenades having different cool downs in trade for lethality -Top-Tree Dawnblade was acknowledged as being “Too spicy” but was intended for high skill players -Thoughts of making movement cost a bit more and more penalizing on people being out of position in PvP (or even PvP) -Vex Methoclayst in the sandbox dev’s opinion is a best underwhelming than they meant it to be -lots go talk on aim assist cones, Accuracy cones and how zoom affects the given cone’s range -Talk on how fusion rifles balance more on spread than damage drop off while shotguns focus on the inverse -Looking into changes on rapid fire fusions -Bungie has learned a lot from how stasis affected the crucible and how to balance maybe new subclasses -They have acknowledge the lack of crucible maps [quote]YES THEY PLAY TEST THERE GAME, WHEN THEY MESS SOMETHING UP AND IT RELEASES, THEY FEEL BAD THE MOST [/quote] -The devs try to keep community opinion in mind over their own personal opinion on the meta -Chaos Reach still feels like it needs tuning -The Bungie Devs said they feel like most PvE feedback is positive right in terms of balance -Looking into the removing/changing of InstaSwapping -PvE buffs coming to handcannons, scouts and machine guns. -Shotguns need tuning further.     I'll die on this Hill. DESTINY SHOULD NEVER HAD PvP Think I'm wrong ? Watch old ViDocs , watch the team PHYSICALLY squirm at the mention of *capturing lighting* at *beating Halo* You can see the light die in their eyes . PvP took assets , money an attention from what should have been this games only setting PvE ,world expansion an detail, should have been the priority not balancing classes for SHOTGUN APES

        • i’m a little worried for my warlock players, without top dawn, and chaos reach. they may go back to stasis. which has been tuned down but it’s still pretty good in pvp. i hope with the nerfs they bring some other things up.

          • Hate to point this out but Warlocks benefit from strong abilities. If they want this game to be more about gunplay than ability? They need to overhaul the Warlock class.

          • Bungie for the love of god, instead of acknowledging top tree dawnblade is highly used and therefore requires a nerf, MAYBE LOOK AT WHY IT’S HIGHLY USED, BECAUSE NO OTHER SUBCLASS IS VIABLE FOR LOCKS ANYMORE. Nevermind the fact it’s usage is far higher on PC where aerial movement is much easier, Console dawn blades are NOT common, and we have a much higher population...

            • Don’t forget the crucible lead saying that breech loading gl’s being “skillshots” and being difficult to use lmao.

            • Dont forget, breach load gls are considered "skillshots" and quickdraw glitching is too inaccessible of an ability to exist in the sandbox

              • I watched the whole thing and the thing that kept crossing my mind is this: they need to hire some actual pvp players to test things out before they ship it out. See what can be broken in pvp and so forth so it could be adjusted. These devs are clearly pve players and that's fine and all but the fact that they didn't see the value in freezing enemies in a pvp sandbox speaks volumes to me.

                    I loved that they acknowledge the existence of crazy builds like the one that Drewsky created with Wings of Sacred Dawn and that they like to see unique builds like that in the game. I have been using that build for a few months now and it’s extremely good and fun to use.

                    • Huh... Bungie listening to the community still confuses me. Mainly because the community they refer to is a select amount of people. Not the whole communities opinion. Well the community is always split but the majority of the community opinion is usually ignored or lost in the void.

                        • Thanks for the summary and generally all good things. I’m hesitant on the point about making builds more the focus? Unless they’re addressing reworking subclasses this seems like a “let’s add champions” idea for PvP but we shall wait and see!

                          • Bottomline? They don’t know what they’re doing, and they still keep trying to fight the game’s identity rather than leaning INTO what is unique about this game. The Unification of Vision was supposed to have dealt with this infighting and competing visions of what this game is supposed to be. But the Leagcy of Halo (and its pvp) once again rears its head to kneecap what is unique about Destiny. Destiny is not a shooter game. It is an action-rpg with FPS play mechanics. The MOBA-like aspects of this game’s PVP IS NOT A BUG. IT IS THE BEDROCK IDENTITY OF THE GAME...and this games pvp will always flounder, and jeopardize the health of the franchise as long as Bu his continues to go to war with it. Continues to treat it like a ghost in the machine that needs to be exorcized rather than an identity that should be embraced. Like Overwatch and Apex Legends embraced these qualities.

If they want to look like a pro, care about the game or their reputation. Then don't effing release it, and make pathetic excuses. All I see is them releasing whatever monetization schemes they can come up with and then milk the game! Then they go out there and say these weak excuses? Pathetic!

                                Things you might want to add: PvE buffs coming to handcannons, scouts and machine guns. Shotguns need tuning further. Dev said stability is more important that range on fusion rifles. Ikelos shotgun with extended barrel could group pellets together more (only shotgun to get this barrel currently). Primary balance is in a good place except 130’s that they will adjust again. Worried doing this just makes 140’s meta. Want to buff scouts but hard to do so. Looking at making them more forgiving, taking less flinch etc rather than making them kill faster.

                                    I haven't made it all the way through it because OH MY GOD the commercials, but after having watched most of it yesterday it didn't take long before I was able to breath a sigh of relief. Its not even the things that are a more of a matter of personal opinion when it comes to what is and isn't effective in the sandbox. It was just a general something something to where you can tell PvP is headed in the right direction. Everyone who pays any attention at all to PvP should watch that. So much of what was said, by both the devs and the streamers, was just exactly what you want to hear out of a conversation about PvP. Just as an example, I'm someone who doesn't really care for the "Destiny is a movement shooter, the skill gap is in the movement" arguments because they just never have an ounce of nuance to them but there was a brief portion of the video where they touched on that and things were said about movement that never get said in almost any conversation about movement. There's just a lot of instances like that if you are someone who plays PvP a lot that you might appreciate. Everyone should watch it.
