Stuttering Issue After Prolonged Gameplay - BUT - Only in certain zones - with troubleshooting data (resolved)

Update - 2/1/2019 I managed to resolve my issue by changing my monitor's refresh rate from 120Hz to 60Hz via NVidia Control Panel. For reference: • VSync is disabled ingame • Framerate limiter is disabled ingame • VSync is enabled through NVidia Control Panel • VSync is set to "ON" through NVidia Control Panel Here are the settings and where they are located for NVidia cards. It isn't too bizarre that this is an issue since its more common than people think, I believe. The most prominent example of 120Hz refresh rates causing problems with games, which comes to mind, would be Skyrim. The game doesn't handle refresh rates above 60Hz since it creates issues with the game's physics engine. Also, it messes with Skyrim's sound. This is also likely why strange things happen in Fallout games too (ie: ragdoll bodies bouncing infinitely). I hope this helps other people. ----------------------------------------- Original Post Follows Before I begin, I want to preface this by saying I am not a tech or anything like that. What Is the Issue? For some reason, after a while of playing Destiny 2 on PC, my fps starts acting up. Specifically, my frames will jump between 50-102. The game feels like its not being slowed down, or suffering from poor fps, but instead it feels like everything I do stutters. It only takes about 10-20 minutes before it starts happening. This is most evident on Mars. How Did I Test This and Gather Data? I performed two tests utilizing these exact steps: 1. Run hardware monitoring software in background to output component status to CSV. 2. Launch Destiny 2. 3. Pick a zone. 4. Stand in the spot you spawn in for 56-minutes doing NOTHING EXCEPT mouse/keyboard inputs every 1-3 minutes to prevent being kicked for inactivity. 5. After 56-minutes, open zone map (M key) and pan the mouse around. 6. Note any framerate issues, stuttering, etc. 7. Alt-Tab from the game and take a snapshot of running services and processes via Powershell, output as CSVs. 8. Close Destiny 2. 9. Stop hardware monitoring software running in the background. 10. Restart computer. 11. Repeat steps 1-10 for Test 2. RESULTS: The only time I experienced ANY issues was performing the test a 2nd time. I was able to reproduce the issue with my 2nd test. There is nothing that I did differently between these two tests at all. Update: The new test I did today (1/23/2019) was the same as test 2. Stuttering after playing the game for a while. Here, I formatted these a bit better: https://imgur.com/uLUg1KS - Test 1 https://imgur.com/YP0jiA6 - Test 2 https://imgur.com/Rex8RsP - Test 3 (From today. The only thing different about this is that I actually played the game. But with NVidia debug mode enabled through the card. This kept the clock from boosting, so it averaged around 1228 Mhz. This essentially disproves any theories that stuttering is the result of the GPU boosting/downclocking due to temperatures. I can also followup and debunk this theory further by forcing the GPU fans to run harder to keep the GPU at its boosted clock speeds. Essentially, if the GPU isn't adjusting any clock speeds at all, then it can't be the cause of stuttering. What I did here was at least prove this statement as true by simply downclocking the card and preventing it from boosting. This is most evident on Mars. I have two hardware monitor logs from both tests for every system on my computer that has a sensor, along with snapshots of all running processes and services. I'm willing to provide this information if I could forward it to a technician to review via email\pm\whatever, or I'll just end up splicing everything together as one giant infographic and throwing it on here. I'd rather avoid having to make the infograph just because it would be a lot of work. Thank you!

Great work :). Let's hope some Bungie-People will find this useful. Sadly I still doubt, that the well-known and most annoying issue in Destiny 2 - the stuttering - will be arrogantly ignored forever. Having the problem on their "issue-list" for over a year does not really help any players. Again, I hereby kindly request a statement from Bungie - What are you going to do in order to solve this severe problem with your engine/networking/rendering - whatever - causing immense stutters....? Just look up the forum - it is full of nearly only this issue.... !

    • Did you verify the graphic card temperature? Do you do any overclocking? VSYNC off or on ?
