It's 10, 20, 40, 80, 160, etc. This is not a glitch and is intended. - This takes more than 'about 3 shards'. You don't get up to 1280 being charged until after buying 7, so in the screenshot you took, prior to that, that day, you had already purchased 7 shards totaling 1270.
