Dear Bungie: A Deaf Girls Plea
Dear Bungie,
On behalf of the all the other deaf guardians out there, the raid is, if not impossible, extremely hard without some form of communication. VoG? I did it, Crota's End? Did it. But the Leviathan? I am either A, left with nobody to take me because of my hearing impairment or B, left with an impossible task. I know you want communication focused tasks but please, please think of the deaf community. Thank you for taking a time to read this. As I don't go on here a lot if you want to ask questions or talk to me my GT is kaseinoboruto.

Wow! Thank you all for your support! To the people who say that Bungie shouldn't "have to cater to the hearing impaired" or that they can't make an all inclusive game, let me bring up some points. It's not hard at all to make a call out system for the raid... and they have a color blind fixer, why can't they just take an hour and add in call-outs?
Edit 2: Thank you to everyone with an actual intellectual opinion (: For the trolls, go back to 4Chan please. Another note, I understand money is an issue, always is. I am simply suggesting this as an interchangeable setting (like the color blindness) that for the raids would replace your emotes with text call-outs. Thank you.

When you do one of the emotes you set, people see "Kasei calls Sun..." and if you press Up, Left/Right, or Down quickly after the first input it completes the line with the respective position (e.g. "Kasei calls Sun Up"). Also saying these emotes can be used during actions and have no animation, it's purely a call out. I'm not sure if text or symbols would be better, but color coding them would be helpful.

It should definitely be possible if you had a full team on board willing to help you. Emotes for communication in some parts most parts take no communication if everyone knows what they're doing.

2 RisposteFor baths, communication isn't really required. For dogs, just follow the leader of the group. For gauntlet, run a plate and have the runner use emotes to indicate whether it's top, middle, or bottom. For calus, just be add control in throne room.

I've always thought emotes should be used for more than just showing off or being stupid. Why not have emotes that say "stop" "wait" "go" "faster" "over here" ya know, I feel that portion of the game could really be expanded.

2 RisposteI think this is a great idea. Some of you may see this as needy, or as a niche issue, but what's important is that everyone gets a chance to enjoy their experience to the fullest. If I could help you with the raid, I definitely would.

We did a raid with a mute guy once. He used emotes to make callouts. Sweep was sun, dance was dogs, ect. He was pretty good actually

I don't know if you have ever been made aware of this, but a deaf clan completed the raid. I realize it's not what you are asking for, and I am really not trying to minimize what you have to deal with on a daily basis, but I thought I'd put this here for you. I think its complicated for bungie or any company that makes a product or any given services to actually be able to make what they sell available to everyone. Not impossible but in projects when you do something the "A" way it affects "B" somwhere or more variables. So in a way making raids, for example, to work with no verbal communication its going to harm some other thing and cause other people complain. Maybe if we could create call outs , or custom messages, to imput them as messages. Like "Dogs", "Chalice" i think that is what you meant. It could work. Maybe even also use vibration functions or something. Also, current D2 raids are very mechanic heavy and require a lot of verbal communication in my opinion. I rather have less talking and more shooting. Anywho, if you ever need help feel free to add me. My and my friends will be glad to give you a hand if you need it. We dont speak very fluent english so communicating with the vast majority of the player base is something that is sort of a problem for me too.

Completely understand and appreciate your post. Thank you for sharing. As someone who due to anxieties lost out on good raid experiences, and now enduring a hearing issue which i have been advised is only going to get worse so I now no longer even use a headset as it is pointless, I am going to need to look at the options available as I would really like to experience the new raid in September with Forsaken. Keep well and strong, as the guardian and person you are.
