The 10 Biggest WTF Moments in Destiny 2

Step right up as we take a magical mystery tour through the collective mind of Bungie as I break down my 10 biggest WTF moments of Destiny 2, in no particular order. Please add your own list in the comments below. 1. Those CoO Strikes Back in the day, Bungie used to a least turn the map around when giving us recycled missions as strikes. Not any more it seems. 2. The Infinite Forest A limitless array of alternate realities sounded good on paper, but the execution was all kinds of stupid. What's worse is it gave them a plot device to recycle content. Not content from D1 or even vanilla D2, mind you. Nope recycled missions you just finished and now have the opportunity to replay with dialogue changes that half-heartedly sell this to you as... repetition. Plus I love that I can't go in there unless in a mission or strike. Makes sense. 3. Saint 14 Bungie had two great characters to play with for the Curse of Osiris expansion whose complicated past made for one of the most interesting storylines from the Grimoire. Obviously the sensible thing to do was to kill one of them off behind the scenes. After all, why introduce a conflict promised to tease out depth in your characters. Doing the character justice would have been too difficult. Better to avoid it altogether and just throw us a shotgun, an emblem, and a throwaway scene tucked away in a mission that most didn't even bother with. At least we have the helmet that literally has no purpose anymore. 4. Turning Brother Vance into Blind Daryl The badass ToO guy tucked away in the reef? Let's make him comic relief! What better way to cheapen our attempt to impress him every week in D1. Turns out we were all fooled! What a great gag! Plus giving Osiris a fan club just made him that much more edgy! SMH 5. Embarking on a 10 year journey, only to find out you nearly made us start from scratch After considerable player feedback, you agreed to let us keep our guardians. Funny we got all upset about that, considering you sold us on a 10 year journey to become legend. The whole notion that you thought this wouldn't bother us makes me shudder in disbelief. Oh yeah, and those places you made so many memories in? They're all gone now. But you created all new ones? But they're going to disappear in September 2020? I've got a new slogan for you. DESTINY: Become Legend Again and Again and Again and Again. Wait, even better. DESTINY: Trust Us. 6. Crucible It's pretty clear to me that people like different types of crucible. Some people like primary weapons focus. Others prefer abundant heavy ammo. Some people want more supers and abilities, others want less. So rather than creating different modes that cater to these ideas, you make sweeping changes to the entire game. Why not use modifiers to make players adapt to different weapons and situations? Why not let players choose what game mode they want to play. No. Much better to force someone that hates supremacy to continue playing supremacy. After all, you know best. 7. Amanda What the glorious feck does Amanda do in this game? I mean, we don't even get a sparrow until we finish the campaign, at which point we find Amanda selling green ships and sparrows in a game that constantly dumps legendary and exotic sparrows on us. I'd like to see how many sparrows Amanda has sold. I am guessing it is less than 10. Did you just forget about her? Or worse yet, was this a conscious decision? 8. Tokens I get it. You need to slow down the pace with which we earn gear. But tokens? And why not just call weapon parts tokens, because that's what they are. And what do we get with said tokens? Shit we don't want. I mean, who thought of this. Off the top of my head...literally this instant...I have come up with a better idea. I am sure you did too just reading this. 9. Weapon and Armor Mods Random rolls are gone. I can handle that, especially if they are replaced with something to fill that void. Weapon mods! Oh wow! So I could effectively create my perfect gun or armor using materials I attained through quest-based activities? No? What do you mean they drop at random? Only one mod per piece of gear? And only 3 of them are any good? Seriously!? We have an effing gun smith my interactions with him involve giving him a buttload of weapon parts for mods I don't need? And what is the point of the blue mods? 10. Power Level WTF is the point of having a power level of 335 when 99% of the game doesn't recognize said power level. I'm not sure how many people are aware of the level cap in game activities. In a 270 level game activity it makes no difference if I am 300 or 335. So my level goes up, but I don't benefit from it. What a genius idea!

  • To this list I would add 11. What is up with the storytelling at bungie. They never finish a story element and simply leave everything hanging. Continuity isn't even there between expansions. How is it that during RoI we become iron lords, shaxx calls us young wolf in D2 but Saladin doesn't know us from Adam. Why is it we got CoO dlc but nobody has yet acknowledged the death of the speaker, the awakening of the traveller or any other major plot point? And why the hell do we continue to raid a ship that has nothing to do with anything we have uncovered in the story up to this point!

Their progression system never made much sense to begin with, but now it's even more pointless. You progress to a high light level without ever feeling powerful. It's just dumb. I'm used to games where leveling meant something. Fallout, Skyrim, FF XIV and other games made you look forward to leveling up.

          • Your points are all good. I especially agree with the last one. What's the point in levels when everything scales. I was playing The Division last night. I'm only up to level 20, so I'm a noob. That said I ran across some level 14 baddies and I wrecked them. I mean I felt powerful. You don't get that in this game. Don't get me wrong, I've played a lot of D2 (another GT on XB1, and I just switched to PC). I have enjoyed my time on it. If I feel like separating aliens from their heads it's a good game for that IMO. I like the shooting mechanics, audio and visuals (esp on PC). But the fact that I am still using the same weapons I got early in the game (XB toons) tells me, in another way, that there is no real growth in this game. It's a repetitive shooter, with occasional loot, that becomes inconsequential once you hit max level. One thing I might add to your list is the "Faction Situation". It was a good vehicle to level up in D1, and get some unique items. Join a faction, earn reputation, get stuff. Now we have rallies every few weeks. I liked the idea of being in a faction. But for more than one week.

                Destiny should just die already & Bungie with it, they ruined the universe they ruined the gameplay they ruined every possible thing this game could've offered, & they are not done yet ... D3 is around the corner. Hands down the worst Studio in gaming's history. Give them 500m$ , give them a 10 year plan & they will ruin that shet in a flash. D1 was a beta, people ate that shet up and supported Bungie until D2 dropped and then we saw their true colours = Eververse / Content is hard to make / 8 hours to load the engine to be able to modify the game. 4 years ... that's how much time these apes needed to kill this franchise and turn it into dust. All the Love & Passion they used to get from their community is now gone, replaced by hate & bitterness.

                • I am surprised you highlighted just 10 WTF moments. I was expecting more. The Destiny franchise promised so much. But has failed with Destiny 2. It is ironic that Bungie will be forced to give us Destiny 1 again. This franchise is going backwards not forward.

                • Great post! Bungie has to be the most clueless developer out there today. What a bunch of morons that company has running it. How could this game slip through their fingers like this? They had 3 yrs of feedback and slowly (like a giant battleship) they started turning in the right direction, and then the dam ship sunk! What a waste of an IP! I really hope there is a developer out there right now that's building a clone IP that will put Bungie in its place, bankruptcy!!

                      • The "power level" has always been a joke. It's just a gate requirement to run end game stuff. No matchmaking in a Multi player FPS that requires teams to run specific content. This one is my biggest pet peeve.

                        Top 10 WTF moments for Destiny 1. In order of when they happened. 1. LAUNCH Couldn’t have disappointed me more if they tried. Seriously, who thought this was ready? Glitches and exploits were the more fun part of the game. 2. VoG launch If bungie play tested it for bugs and thought through an endgame, it could’ve been good. Best part was glitching it, so I didn’t have to play it. (I.E. throwing atheon and templar off the edge) 3. The dark below Left me really confused, I already glitched into the maps for the “story” and they sell it saying it’s new, then they do NOTHING to fix the endgame and really just re-sell the exact same mistakes. All these exotics were garbage too, NLB, dragons breath, Necrochasm, WTF guys? 4. Crota’s end Again, the best part was exploiting crota to his knees. Speedrunning this raid and challenges were the best ways to try to enjoy it. After our feedback they still force us to look the same with the same armor and use weapons that don’t have random rolls. 5. Skolas launch No one playtested this, I remember leaving dozens of groups because they kept on kicking people who didn’t have gjallarhorn. We couldn’t exploit our way through this one I guess. 6. Luke Smith and his interviews The same guy who was the creative leas of our precious VoG and Destiny’s best DLC, trash talks us to throwing money at the screen... this was before TTK launch so still How era too. You guys seriously told us to purchase content we already owned? At least you launched with the edition upgrades. 7. Taken king content drought Launch was great! Didn’t last as long as you thought it would though did ya bungie? Apparently this is when you started developing D2, and I wish you focused more on D2 instead. The creative team needed the help. 7. .04% auto rifle buff Do I need to explain myself here? 8. Addition of eververse Launch eververse was okay, but a step in the wrong direction. Instead of buying silver, than buying my emote of my choice, we have lootboxes starting April update. 9. Nerfing sniper rifles Instead of giving us better primaries to kill snipers, you nerf again. There’s a reason destiny’s popular for nerfing and this isn’t helping 10. Age of recycled content REEEEEE really wish we got new raids or that the development team spent their focus on D2, but age of triumph wasn’t a bad thing for Destiny. I betcha if the creative minds here started development with D2, we would be a lot happier right now though.

                        • Honorable Mention: Farm no longer a point of reference. Exotic weapons and armor, too easy to get and can get them all from Xur with the fated engram. Shortest Campaign, EVER! Good post.

Totally agree with your feedback regarding crucible- in my eyes ( and a lot of competitive players I know) crucible competitive has been ruined with the latest updates- would make much more sense to offer distinct game modes to suit different players rather than trying to cater for all and failing miserably
