The story was good to ok... Huge improvement from the jumbled mess of D1, but thats in the past, now to build. - I thought we would have more depth, like we are defending the LAST city of humanity. The only part we even feel this is when we walk by Shax in the Homecoming mission. Like couldnt we have interrupted Zavala from aiding an injured refugee? Some real show of compassion from the guardians towards the citys citizens? This was lacking throughout the entire story. Even your guardian having a flashback walking through a market filled with people and kids, then going back to the game showing it on fire, destroyed. Flashbacks needed. Not just the what but the why is needed with the story. - In game lore is pretty shallow. Inspecting items really tells you little to no more about why you are there or what is going on. "Look a servitor body. Wonder what it is there for?" Why did I just search a room for 5 minutes for this. Tell us something good. Scan a helmet, "This helmet belonged to Osiris, he was a Warlock vanguard. His obsession with the Vex got him expelled from the order" Then maybe you could even have a option "Press A for more" to bring up written extended lore or cancel to return to the game. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. Lore for those who want it basics for people who are in between and then dont scan it if you just want to shoot stuff. Not one person could say this is a bad idea. Patent Pending. - Cayde and Failsafe were awesome. Failsafe needs to be our ghost or something. Her split personality was great. Ash, was just annoying, Ikora came off as winey "I am more then my light, I could have done something, I should have done something" Then why didnt you? Zavala was fine but no major highlights. Hawthone was good, I liked her. Speaker, never really liked him, he could be dead, Id be okay with that. He was better in this game telling off Ghaul but, still ok with him being dead. Ghaul was probably like #3 or 4 on most memorable for me. The scene where he looked at the speakers mask then choked out the console was great. But he is kinda super dead now (see what I did there) so guess we wont hear much more of him. - Raid, Where did this ship come from? What is going on? A week into the game and unless you bought the collectors edition you have no idea what is going on. Had to watch a fans YouTube just to see how the heck this even fits in to the story. This should have been explained better and needs to be for future raids. An opening cut scene for the raid was needed, not going to YouTube for a fans theory. Missed opportunity. Same with Trials of the Nine, here it is. If you ever get to the lighthouse, which I probably wont because PvP is not my thing, you may figure out more about the Nine. But because I wont I guess I wont... Like many other people. Missed opportunities. - Guardians dont talk. Lame. Did Mass Effect Andromia scare you off? Grow some. It was fine in D1. We talked in D1. - We sure got our light back quick, kinda thought it would be a struggle but we found it in about 2 quick missions and the Vanguard still havenet figured it out? Either we are pretty selfish or the Vanguard is pretty dumb. Or at least explain, did the traveler just choose us now or what? - Cabal in genreral, so we are fighting this huge army and we only hear from 2 of them. Console and Ghaul. Kinda proves my point of being shallow... Hey go kill this lieutenant, ok. Gun noises. Pew pew, boom. Hes dead good job, I have more for you when you come see me next. That is my constructive criticism. It may come off as I didnt like it but quite the contrary. I enjoyed it the first, second and working on the 3rd time. Just trying to help make it go from good to great. This pretty much sums it up... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSDuVq5Ut4M

  •
What did you think?
Over all.... It was clear, coherent, easy to understand. I really enjoyed all of the characters much more. It was nice to understand them all a little better. No longer is Zavalla the purple guy at the end of the table, and surprise surprise Ikora has a personality. Failsafe is a delight, Cayde is great as usual, Gaul was an interesting villain. There for a sec I thought he would attempt to earn his light not steal it. I think in the end he fell right into his sociopath conquer role. Looking forward to what's next.
Did you like it?
Ja, Sure did.
What was your favorite part?
The cut scenes were really good. I was always looking forward to the conversations going on inside Gaul's command ship. The combination of humor and heavy subjects worked well together.
What would you like to see more of in the future?
More insane vehicle sequences are always nice. (the ones I already had in the game were great) I'm always curious about the motivations of my enemies, exploring that information makes them more interesting.

  • all ill say is i want our guardian to actually speak, it feels like the ghost is the main character its quite sad seeing cutscenes of our player just look at the ghost or get interrupted... we are the main guy here, the badass here.. but we feel like a side character... i want to see our character giving the orders for once

    • Devram Kay is Jar Jar Bink's British cousin. And most of the story seemed reminiscent of the Famous Five books which was clearly the main inspiration for most characters and not in a good way. Having played through nearly three times now my favorite part has been getting to the end. My least favorite part other than the cringeworthy dialogue has been the artificial grind pauses on each planet. That and plinking at poopy bags of hit points with primaries. The new quest system is also a nuisance, everything on the map should be a fast travel point. I would like to see more content that doesn't include Devram, Failsafe or that guy on Io. I would also like to see more yellow and purple engrams incorporated into the story. They are the best part.

    • Hey Cozmo, please concider letting us run around in 3rd person view and when we hold L2(ps4) we zoom in Aim Down Sights. If we do not hold L2 we can "hip fire" from 3rd person view, also we can melee in this 3rd person view. I really hope this becomes a option for D2. Thanks.

    • I loved the whole story. My only issue is that the build up to the final boss was great and tense, but then you reach the boss and the fight isn't interesting at all. Boss fights in the Strikes and throughout the campaign are ever-changing and engaging, but the big boss at the end of the campaign just, isn't. Super interested to see what comes from the future DLC too, that post credits cliffhanger is awesome! Also, I saw someone post that it would be good to be able to play any story mission again whenever you want. I like the meditations, but it would be nice if Ikora also had an Archive for all of the story missions (even the post campaign quest/adventure missions). This archive wouldn't give the same rewards as the meditations, but you could at least still have access to the content. I'd like more Failsafe... Always more Failsafe.

    • Why didn't the guardian take the vanguard to the travelers shard? Why did ghaul procrastinate on his plan for so long? Why didn't the story explain where the sword, trash can lid, and poll came from? Why didn't the story explain what happened to the speaker? Why did ghaul turn into a ghost and then got killed by the traveler? All in all most of it was good, I liked the speaker giving ghaul nothing to work with and ultimately telling him "kill yourself". Id like to see more beginning middles AND endings to stories instead of this at the end "................." 100% better at telling the story than Destiny was. Loving the pve.

      1. Too short for a game that has been in work for 3 years- 8 hours? Should have been 15-20. 2. Our Guardian does not speak- I don't identify with him during story. Its like being manuekin standing there or mindless cyborg "proceeding to next location.... aquiring objectives to do....proceeding with extermination....don't care...." 3. EZ MODE, EZ MODE. Too easy. WAAAAAY to easy. No challange at all, you can skip most fights, you can run your tank in tank mission without firing anything. Enemies AI is dump, stupid. Their either stand and do micro damage or all are coming closer, shoting you less and less and becoming bigger, easier to kill target. They don't do damage, they don't use cover. It is super easy mode that even a person without legs and arms would beat that story blindfolded. 4. Dying has no penalty. You respawn close where you died and enemies you killed before are dead. Also sometimes it spawns you in the location you died and remove all enemies for you. When you die you should start mission from very beginning and reset all enemies. You promote mindless gameplay without any challange. This game bored to death even my wife who is casual gamer and always play on easy/normal in every game. For her even D2 was just too easy to be enterteining. 5. Story itself is ok, nothing spectacular. Typical, quite cliche nice story in fps game. Didn't expect Witcher 3 story or anything so that is fine with me. Could be little more epic. But too short and too easy!!

    • I really loved the story. The reveal of the new tower and traveller at the end was an amazing moment. One of the most memorable video game moments I've had. My two favourite missions where the almighty mission at the end and the Titan mission through the solarium. My only disappointment was that Ghauls back story didn't really feel very fleshed out and the whole story with the speaker and the consul ended a little abruptly. I was expecting more from that story arc and it felt a little underdeveloped. Overall though it was a massive improvement over D1. For the first time in Destiny I felt like I actually cared about the characters and the story. I also loved the faction leaders Hawthorne, Devrin and failsafe. On a side note the game looked spectacular. Awesome world design and lighting. And there were so many "wow" moments in the game. Great work guys and thanks for an awesome game.

    • I personally felt like we shouldn't be the ONLY guardian capable of doing anything in the Destiny universe. Seeing all those guardians dead from the cabal dogs and then killing those same dogs with a pistol only to come across a dead hunter with a smg was kind of annoying. I felt like they shouldn't have had an issue if the enemy was that weak. Also being the only guardian to find their light, would've preferred someone saying that I was one among few rather than the only one. Being the only one with light also makes the strikes make less sense too, why would Zavala want us to team up with lightless guardians in a mission that would certainly lead to their demise? I just over all feel too powerful in destiny lore, there's tales of entire fire teams dying to Crota and Atheon but my guardian apparently has little to no difficulty defeating these same enemies and more almost singlehandedly. In Summary: I feel like our guardian is too powerful lore wise, also the Dialogue didn't fit well for a silent protagonist.

Not a bad campaign from a gameplay and setting standpoint, but the storytelling and theme of dispossession seemed to end too fast. You guys were in a tough spot during the sections without the light, but rather than feeling crippled with a sleepy ghost for a short minute, maybe learn to walk a mile in Hawthorne's shoes, running from enemies and relying on cover and tactics for a while. Maybe even make a pvp mode with those conditions. Then, when you do finally get your light back, it's more significant because you've become a good fighter even without it. I also thought it would be cool if the hunt for even one of the vanguard leaders was more of a trail of breadcrumbs type progression, rather than just having them all essentially front and center on each planet. I'm thinking of moments in gaming like the search for Janos Aubron in the second Soul Reaver game, or Archangel turning out to be Garrus in Mass Effect 2. When you finally find him, it's a huge moment with emotional weight. Getting that feeling from finding Ikora or Saladin would have been big. Lastly, having all the major NPCs abandon the farm, even Hawthorne, seemed to just drop the idea and spirit of that place. Keeping it relevant post 20 and feeling like a hidden staging area to launch attacks from would have been nice. I also was disappointed that it wasn't in zone, like towns in WoW. Why have it be an isolated place you can't ride your sparrow to within the EDZ? But these are my quibbles. Overall the game has been very fun.

      • 6) Voiceless protagonists break my immersion. Every time a character speaks to my guardian, and I say nothing back, it pulls me from the experience. I hate it. If you want us to embody our guardians, you should have dialogue options like a Mass Effect game or other RPGs. 7) Thumos the Unbroken should have been introduced and established as a formidable threat before the mission where we fight him. The dialogue suggests he is formidable and has been a problem for humanity, but we're never shown any reason to believe any of this. 8) At least make some effort to explain how these aliens are speaking English. The Cabal speak in barks and grunts, but them speaking English can easily be explained with translation device (the mask Ghaul wears also). The same applies to Oryx in The Taken King (could have easily been explained with Hive magic for telepathy). (Added this to my earlier post, but I'm worried it might already be archived)

I thought the story was much better fleshed out this time around with the game doing a good job of both telling the story and providing background lore as well. My favorite part definitely has to be Ghaul explaining how he had sacrificed to get where he was because it changed him from some petty villian into a respectable adversary. When the Traveler woke up, THAT was an experience and to see how far its Light stretched out put things into perspective. The journey to get your second and third subclass back could've been different for each Light type because they were mostly the same. More imprtantly, why did your character not lead the Vanguard on an expedition to touch the giant share in the EDZ? The smaller one may have run out of Light but the gargantuan one did not. Why have the Guardians not learned to protect their Ghosts from Hive spells??????? It's been years now. You'd think they would have eventually created a countermeasure by now.

          • I loved the story, especially the scenes with the vanguard storming the tower, but there was some room for improvement. Ghaul was an interesting antagonist by the end, as he seemed insecure constantly yelling "I am ghaul." I think there could have been more story to io as I left with little idea who Asher was. I also think that while I consider myself a buff in the subject of hive lore the implications of savathuns arrival don't excite me too much since she would be the third give god. I also think Zavala's crisis as to what makes a guardian a guardian could have been expanded upon, since he touched on it briefly, but never seemed truly broken. I also feel that while the characters of Asher, devrim, failsafe, and Hawthorne were neat, their stories could have been more fleshed out like that of Eris morn.

It was adequate, a significant improvement to its predecessor, but I have issues. More detail below: 1) On Titan, we're told that Zavala has his forces hiding there, but we only ever see him and Sloane. This whole section would work better in making us believe we're doing something important there if we actually saw a glimpse of the people we're supposedly helping. 2) I felt that Ghaul killing his mentor was a bit predictable, and wastes an opportunity to add another layer to his personality. Ruthless driven villains are extremely common, but adding a layer of genuine love for his mentor, it would have made Ghaul feel more three-dimensional (unless they're psychopath or sociopaths, even cruel evil rulers can have hidden soft sides they show to those close to them). If Consul had to die, that's fine, but you guys could have given Ghaul a moment of sadness about it. 3) Once again, the writers can't seem to find a use for the Speaker. He provided no value or information to neither Ghaul nor us. He could have been used to deliver some kind of information about what the Traveler actually is, its origins, or its purpose, but nope. I also find it pretty insulting that even in death, you guys refuse to show his face. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE MASK? To tease us with mystery? What good is that when the character hasn't done anything for two games, and now is dead? I want the closure of finally seeing his face. 4) Another criticism I have, which I think is my biggest criticism, is that other than the after-credits scene, there was a lack of surprises. Sure, the story was competent, and there were moments of great awe (the Traveler awakening to stop Ghaul), but everything pretty much went how I thought it would without much deviation. I want to be surprised. 5) The last issue I had with the story of Destiny 2 was that it did nothing to tie up the loose ends of the previous. I know Luke Smith thinks this arc has somehow been resolved, but we still don't know basic answers about who the Exo Stranger is. Who is she really? Where/when is she from? Who was she working with? Solution: in the Curse of Osiris DLC, have it just casually mentioned that she was an agent of Osiris who was working with him to stop the Vex, and her teleportation/time travel is a result of Vex tech. EDIT: 6) Voiceless protagonists break my immersion. Every time a character speaks to my guardian, and I say nothing back, it pulls me from the experience. I hate it. If you want us to embody our guardians, you should have dialogue options like a Mass Effect game or other RPGs. EDIT: 7) Thumos the Unbroken should have been introduced and established as a formidable threat before the mission where we fight him. The dialogue suggests he is formidable and has been a problem for humanity, but we're never shown any reason to believe any of this. EDIT: 8) At least make some effort to explain how these aliens are speaking English. The Cabal speak in barks and grunts, but them speaking English can easily be explained with translation device (the mask Ghaul wears also). The same applies to Oryx in The Taken King (could have easily been explained with Hive magic for telepathy).

It's a very good looking game. Music and sound were also verygood. I liked how the main quest could be put on hold while I did other things in route. Like a public event. Favorite part was returning to the tower. Though it made the farm kind of useless now. More of? A verbal protagonist. The eyebrow raises and actually looking to your ghost to answer for you has too go.

            • My only real problem is that, other than the fact that he took over the city and the Traveller, Ghaul didn't have much of a reason to be hated. We saw him once at the beginning of the campaign, and then he just sat cooped up in his ship the rest of the game. Have the antagonist actively be doing stuff during the story in Destiny 3, give us a reason to hate this guy. Other than that, I really enjoyed Destiny 2's story. Well done!

LGBTQ Clan Banners My clan and I are really enjoying it! Great Job Bungie! Also, I am a member of a large 10k gaming group on FB, called "Bears Be Gaming". We have already maxed out clan limit in D2, and starting a second clan and foresee a 3rd when D2 drops on PC. Does Bungie have any plans on providing Clan Banners for the LGBTQ communities? We pride ourselves in being one the largest Gay Gaming group on FB and want to extend that LGBTQ Pride to our Clan Banners via colors/rainbows and symbols Thank You in Advance
