People ITT:
"We think max is defending a murderer, rather than pointing out that the point Rand Paul is making in this tweet doesn't seem to make sense given recent events."
It's like they're deliberately reading you into a monster.
I can kind of see how this could be interpreted wrong but if you know what he means you know that he doesn't mean the tragic event that recently happened.
Didn't know the US government had become tyrannical and killing its citizens left and right and having curfews and gaining complete control. Try harder next time Max.
Americans are truly blessed, to have a clear-cut objective definition of tyranny that all 300 million of you are always in perfect agreement on, thereby relieving you of the need to reflect on whether or not the part of your national psyche that fetishizes armed revolution fuels the murderous fantasies of people like this or McVeigh.
What a comfort that must be.
Oh, I think the tweet has aged just fine. I mean, sure, it is undisputed that Paul is a candy-ass crybaby hothouse flower with a penchant for storming out of interviews in a snit if the reporter has the temerity to ask anything resembling a tough question, but hey, credit where credit's due. In this instance, he's right!
As Americans, we have an unqualified Second Amendment right to shoot government officials in the event of tyranny. And since that right is fundamental and individual in nature, it necessarily follows that each individual American must decide for himself or herself when and to what extent conditions exist justifying the exercise of his or her fundamental Second Amendment remedies.
Stated differently, each American patriot must make an individual determination of whether sufficient tyranny exists to warrant a shooting spree directed at government officials. Big government authoritarians who want to impose their own notions of "tyranny" on everyone else, thereby seeking to limiting the fundamental Second Amendment remedies of others, are jack-booted thugs who hate freedom and, by extension, America. Sad.
The occasional bloodbath is the price we pay for living in a free society. Jefferson himself said that the tree of liberty must from time to time be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants. The Framers had the foresight to vest the authority to decide what qualifies as tyranny in each individual citizen.
