This was posted in response to if Bungie is going to do something about magnetism/aim assist on grenades.
@Big_Plays_Ron That's tracking, technically. We know it can be frustrating to get stuck and killed. It's on the list, but not coming asap.
-Josh Hamrick
So there are a couple of things here, not the least of which is that sticky grenades are going to be nerfed at some point because dying is frustrating.
If that's really a reason to ruin weapons and abilities people like to use, what's the point?
And I'm not trying to be a dick to Bungie or Hamrick about it and I hope that people curtail the calls for jobs, but honestly I think this statement shows how little Bungie understand about why players love playing their characters so much.
The fact is it's frustrating dying to anything, so where does the rabbit hole end?
Nerf stickies now, but then how fair is axion tracking? Isn't it frustrating being chased across the map by seekers?
Then Lightning Grenades will have to go because it's frustrating that I can't recognize that I just got hit by a pulse and step 2 feet to either side.
And don't get me started on Suppression Grenades, it's really frustrating not being able to jump, super or use my own grenades for like 5 hours after getting hit by one. That has gotta go.
Sticky grenades have been in the game since launch. They've never been a problem. So why now?
Which leads to the other big issue with balance philosophy.
Who exactly are Bungie balancing Destiny for?
I know there's been a lot of debate over this, but who did lessening sbmm benefit?
The majority of casual players?
Why did Sunsingers (and DoTs in general), MIDA, Thorn, rez shields, special ammo, shotguns and snipers all get nerfed?
Trials.
And why are sticky grenades suddenly an issue?
Funny how Triplewreck started calling for their nerf last week and suddenly something everyone can use that performs the same for everyone and has been a non-issue since launch, and is FUN, is now being looked at and on a list to be nerfed.
Datto didn't like our Sunsingers, they frustrated him.
Dr Lupo and TW didn't like sbmm, playing equal competition frustrated them.
It's one thing to say streamers and "content creators" don't have influence in dictating play, but I'm having trouble not seeing the correlation.
Then there's the decision to remove special ammo on death to "promote primary usage", but they let Sidearms keep their ammo and start with it after every death, which in turn has just made everyone run sidearms 24/7
You can't make statements that you want NLB to perform like other snipers because you want consistency across the class and then make changes to Specials but exclude one... Where's the consistency there?
I've said time and again I understand that they're trying to just get D1 to the finish line and shaking up metas is easier than creating new content, but honestly this is the first time I've really been worried about what D2 will be if anything fun is going to be targeted for a nerf because it's "frustrating" dying to it and the players making livings pub stomping are allowed to dictate how we play.

13 RisposteModificato da Powermix24: 2/22/2017 3:35:13 AMBungie needs to get Nioh , play it and then realize what a fine release it is. Josh Hamrick sends out tweets from twitter about the game's future , but never once does he do it on here . The Irony Josh Hamrick Feb 19 @FrenchCrumpet Hungering Blade is getting buffed. Right now you're getting 36 health per kill, I'm looking at buffing it up to 57.

The nig problem I have with sticky grenades is that they can bounce off walls, roll on the floor and still stick you. But thats just me. As far as special goes...at first I liked it. Now I hate it. I consider myself a decent sniper and would like the option to use it more frequently. It doesnt mean I want to go camp and hard scope. It means I just would like the options. And by allowing sidearm to keep their ammo is just a silly idea. 1. It pushes for the majority of the player base to use 1 special (again) & 2. Some of the exotic sidearm perks are havung ammo upon respawn.

2 RisposteI'm against how Bungie does things most of the time. But even I can admit you're reaching. Frankly trying to grasp anything meaningful out of a tweet considering their character limit is just asking for trouble. Also. If your logic was true which streamer was complaining about arc blade? quick draw? etc. Everyone has an impact on the game. no matter how big or small. To try and assume Bungie only uses one source or even has any kind of consistency when it comes to over arching ideas is just asking for trouble. I give you an A for effort though.

I have been thinking exactly the same as you sols. It's scary to see that the rabbit hole won't end.

Modificato da insp1red1: 2/22/2017 9:48:13 AMI have come to this conclusion after the patch. Icebreaker nerf coming because they are being "overused".
-
this is basically the problem: Most nerfs are based on how it feels to face them, disregarding any aspect of how it feels to use them. And with that statement, most nerfs are PvP based because in PVE you won't face them, you'll just use them...
-
Whenever you nerf something, something else will be the better option. Clever dragon was a great way to counter snipers. Clever dragon got it's balls removed, so between all the sidearms, I see a rise of Icebreaker and other snipers come.... This will go on forever.....

6 RisposteYear 1 players are mostly gone, the game is now played by late Year 3 casual players that got the game from the bargain/used bin. Bungie is "balancing" the game for these players now, in fear that they will run back to COD or BF if they don't please all the kinderguardians. Just look at the amount of threads kinderguardians make every week begging for weapon perk re-rolls because they "don't have time to farm for a perfect roll".
-
balancing will always come and go in waves because its only complaints that get the most air time. People complain > bungie patches > those people stop complaining and play > new group complains loudly about something else that wasn't getting airtime earlier > so the cycle continues. I remember the hard yards of year one where there were genuine balance complaints and solutions offered. Now its just petty rubbish for the sake of complaining. There only major issues left with the game are fundamentals that I am hoping will be addressed in D2, and I'd rather the team work on getting that right than changing some of the underlying architecture of the current game

3 RisposteModificato da RPColten: 2/22/2017 2:30:22 AMEveryother grenade can be countered directly (shoot the spike/lightning grenade), avoided (solar flare, vortex, swarm/tripmine), designed to flush enemies out of cover and/or cause a small burst of damage in an area (Axion, Solar/Arc-bolt, Fire/Void-wall), or designed to cause radial damage or a stun (incendiary, suppressor, stormcloud). Fusion, Flux and Magnetic grenades exist purely to cause high damage to a single target. On paper that doesn't sound that bad. It only affects one target and you have be careful where you throw it. They would be fine if it wasn't for the very high tracking that makes dealing with them close to impossible. They are simple impossible-to-counter grenades that do nothing but frustrate opponents for no reason other than the fact that they are incredibly forgiving and do not reflect the necessary design that something with such killing potential should have. Your grenade that kill any player in the Crucible by itself as long as you land? Better have some good aim then if you are to be rewarded with an instant kill. Everyone has seen just how much the grenades track opponents. The game does not accurately reflect the skill that should be necessary to be rewarded with a one-hit kill. If there exists a game mechanic/item that does nothing but frustrate the players that it affects, is that not a sign that it should be adjusted so that it can still be good but not frustrating for players?

6 RisposteIf we have to remove every kind of 'frustrating' way to be killed, we'll be reduced to old-timey one-shot pistol duels. Ten paces, turn and shoot.
-
2 RisposteIf I was a Bungie developer and working on a sequel that could potentially be amazing. I would rotate the meta on the current game and collect the data off the players to make the sequel better. Why would I want to pay professional beta testers when I can have people do it for me and they pay me?
-
5 RispostePretty much all problems in this game for the last year and a half stem from one thing- weak primaries. The game was made for fast killing weapons (.75 seconds or lower for all primaries) which is why you now see complaints all the time about OP special weapons and OP abilities. They arent OP, they were just made for the base game when primaries actually killed quickly.

that tweet didn't mention anything about redbar warriors....

34 RisposteModificato da Smithy: 2/22/2017 12:02:31 AM
The fact is it's frustrating dying to anything
No, it's not. Anyone who thinks such needs to take a step back and rethink their life choices.
And why are sticky grenades suddenly an issue?
They've always been an issue because OHKs are always annoying when you're not expecting them.
Datto didn't like our Sunsingers, they frustrated him.
Maybe Datto was the the trigger to get the masses to start bitching, as you're trying to do here, but Sunsinger DoT has always been known to be oppressively strong and unfun.
Dr Lupo and TW didn't like sbmm, playing equal competition frustrated them.
Some people don't like playing seriously all the same. That's why most modern games have ranked and unranked playlists. SBMM essentially forced people into one or the other. Plus the complaints (even among people here) of "muh connections," "muh redbar warriors."
Nerf stickies now, but then how fair is axion tracking? Isn't it frustrating being chased across the map by seekers?
For something that you can get twice a minute, the amount of tracking time is incredibly ridiculous because there is nothing you can do about it once you get pinged, short of manning up and taking the damage or running away.
Then Lightning Grenades will have to go because it's frustrating that I can't recognize that I just got hit by a pulse and step 2 feet to either side.
Lightning Grenades are frustrating because they a) pulse immediately on landing taking out more than half your health, b) do way more damage per tick than any other area of denial grenade, effectively making them direct damage, and c) have a damage cone not accurately reflected by the graphic. Now I'm not calling for anything to be nerfed because the game is the game and I have to be good at it regardless of what Bungie does. But a lot of this shit is fundamentally unfun when it becomes a core part of the game, much like how you can forgive one 360 noscope because hey, that's cool, but if the entire game you're getting noscoped and can't do anything about it you're going to get pissed off because that's just not how the game is supposed to play. This's Destiny, not instagib Quake. Think of it this way: what would the reaction be if there was a super that, on activation, just randomly killed one person on the other team. In the grand scheme of things it'd be pretty weak, because other supers get 2+ kills usually if you use them well, but holy shit the salt would be tangible because it's completely out of your control. You don't have to be a top-tier player to understand that. It's the same sort of randomness that people moaned about with VoG and CE glitches, only these are intentional design features. I bet you $20 that as soon as you play with an actual goal in mind -- not just having fun -- you'll change your tune. EDIT: And just to add to this, what about all the general PvE frustrations? Heavy ammo glitch was frustrating. Lower special ammo is frustrating. Shotguns not mapping is frustrating. Boss AoEs are frustrating. Sniper flinch is frustrating. Multiple levels of RNG is frustrating. At least, according to some people. Should they all just shut up and deal?
-
3 RisposteDr lupo never complained about sbmm, he stated it frustrated him but he understood why it was in place, nor did he mislead his followers like others in the community.
-
I've lost faith in Bungie to do the right thing. That's really all I can say on the matter.
-
I love it! I've been asking the same question about who they're balancing for forever now!

11 RisposteThey're talking about nerfing sticky grenades?!?!?! Jesus christ!!! 😭😭😭
-
Modificato da SaltyCamper21: 2/22/2017 4:44:47 AMI just can't seem to wrap my head around what their thought process is here. Isn't everything in the game designed to kill the other person? Where does it stop? Are we expected to just sit around a warlocks solar grenade and tell stories? It's almost as if the "b" team is now in control of this current build while the "a" team is focused on D2.
-
1 RispondiI already said before with the ammo nerf we were going to see a sticky grenade fest. Since we can really gun them down fast enough. It's ok though. This is what the people wanted. No specials. Now it's all sidearm, handcannons, and stickies. Throw in No land beyond and Icebreaker and that's the entirety of PVP. *sigh* This meta is so boring.
