The West rose to become the most developed and powerful civilization in history, with its legal systems and culture firmly rooted in the Christian tradition. Over one thousand years of western poetry, architecture, music, literature, and feats of engineering were done in the name of, were inspired by, and were intended to glorify Christian religion. Christian morality has a reason and purpose, mainly to defend the integrity, structure, and order of society; which has at its core the family unit. Everything in the West from our ideas on morality, law, rights, humanism, literature, language, science and culture stems mostly from our Christian foundation.
Christianity is the foundation of any Western moral code, even for basic things such as the belief in equality. Pre-Christian or non-Christian civilizations don't have the concept of equality, it is a social construct that stems from post-enlightenment European Christian philosophy. The concept of equality among men arose directly out of Christian teachings. It was this concept of equality that led to Europe's, led by Britain, abolition of slavery around the world, in every other culture outside of Christianity slavery was still permitted and accepted as natural.
Christianity by its very precepts considers itself (perhaps no longer, but it should) above human creations such as a state, a sovereign or any other ideology, in the West it has always acted as a buffer against abuse of power from a state, which is the principal threat currently facing western society (note I am not saying that Christianity itself has not been or is not guilty of abuses of power). When you remove Christianity from its formal position as the official foundation of morality, you leave morality up to the individual or the state and it becomes relativist. I see this all around me, and was guilty of it myself, with people basing their morality in the laws of the state or in their own, often selfish, desires rather than in the teachings of Christianity.
Christianity is a system of BELIEFS (no proof needed, see definition) incredibly beneficial to society and government, that has produced some of humankind's greatest artistic, engineering, philosophical, scientific and political achievements. You should do your best to uphold this undeniably valuable western tradition instead of subverting your own, or adopted, culture and history for your own egotistical desires or the belief that man has been or can ever be perfected in a modern statist, atheist society.

7 RisposteChristianity, Civilization, and Secularism. One of these things does not belong with the other two. Can you guess which one? It's Christianity, -blam!- that noise.

114 RisposteModificato da Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 9/2/2016 6:44:29 PMIt's always so sad to me when I find people's faith in their beliefs equates to such a lack of faith in their own kind that they think we can't be civilized without assuming some sort of celestial dictator. The longer we assume such an idea is necessary, the longer we hold ourselves back. One of the worst things we can do is assume that something is out there watching out for us. We need to be able to let go and act on our own. To assume responsibility for our own shitty actions. We can create and change the world on our own.

2 RisposteYou appear to be forgetting that most scientists for the past few centuries have been atheist/agnostic and the more influential Enlightenment thinkers, as well as many of America's founding fathers, were deists. As for morality, it's never been inherently tied to religion, and basic moral concepts such as not harming your fellow man have appeared in practically every culture on the planet, albeit with some exceptions.

Wait, so what are you saying?

I almost upvoted this, but then you said that bullshit about non-Christians having no concept of equality.

2 RisposteNone of this is true, obviously.. Nice reading material for Sunday school though. Gotta get them young right? Plenty of evidence of great minds in history being closet Atheist. See, you used to be put to death for believing these things. Even Mother Teresa lost her faith in the end.. Oh, excuse me.. Saint Teresa. The most despicable acts in human history have been done under the name of God.. It's not the Atheist you see murdering, -blam!-, and enslaving humanity.. Nope, those are men of God.

5 RisposteTrans people are completely normal. Caitlyn Jenner is a normal woman because she wears dresses, gets mani/pedis, and lathers her face with makeup and scented oils. The fact that she has a thick hard cock hidden beneath her underpants does not matter. Nor does centuries of research in the field of biology.

12 RisposteI like how we know nothing about God other than the fact that he; 1. Can't handle different opinions. 2. His only way to fix a broken society is by killing everyone. (The homicide was worse than Hitler's) 3. He likes to put non-believers into suffering and intense pain rather than to show them that he exists by performing miracles. 4. He also likes to put Believers into said "tests" of suffering, instead of showing his faithful miracles. Yeah, seems like God is PERFECT. Because thats what his followers seem to think! But when you think about it; God was the first Hitler.

19 RisposteModificato da Cappy: 9/3/2016 12:26:47 AMI'd say Christianity's worked wonders in the artistic fields, but held back society in the sciences. I also wouldn't credit Christianity as a moral basis, since it's common sense from a secular standpoint not to do immoral things.
