So there i was, on my way to being the very best, messing around on the Pokémon go app and I came across this poor bastard. It was out of the kindness of my heart that I trapped him in a tiny ball so he wouldn't suffer the fate of the others locked inside the store. Now he can be free in a very very very confined space.
Who else is playing?
Here's some tips and tricks

Another set of tips, this one mentions difficulty ratings based on circles. It's a good read and fairly similar to the first link but it wouldn't hurt to skim it.

Last guide is a decent coverall with samplings from different sources like polygon and kotaku including slightly more detailed descriptions on strategies for catching Pokémon with less pokeballs

Added a comment about spoofing.

So. I sank to the dark side today. Technically it was 2 days ago but today I dove in head first. I spoofed. Granted I reset my phone before I did it and predetermined my "location" before I opened Pokémon Go, but it worked. I rooted my phone and off i went to stand in an area downtown I'd been to several times before. I got ballsy and decided to go to another area id already been and it worked for a bit but I got hit with a soft ban. Turned my phone off then on with the original spoof location set up and I've had no issues other than randomly teleporting back to my actual house for a brief second or two then returning to the spoof spot. 1 glitch has occurred and it was the game freezing on a wild Pokémon, however closing out the app and bringing it up I found the game decided I caught it. So in retrospect spoofing isn't all bad if you don't jump massive distances and by that I mean, load the game at your house and then change location by more than a mile. I don't really advocate cheating of any sort but I still feel this is worth noting for anyone thinking of trying it out. According to reddit the further you spoof (distance between teleports) the longer the ban. If my phone had stayed on idk how long the ban would have actually been. Reports are ranging from 10 minutes to 4 hours, so be careful out there.

4 RisposteFun Fact After you select the pokemon you wish to track from your nearby pokemon, turn on your compass and slowly turn 360°. When you are pointing the correct direction the nearby pokemon box in the lower right corner will begin to pulsate with a small green box. As you move closer the green box will begin to pulse more rapidly until you find your desired pokemon. This was linked to me by a friend and really does work

2 RisposteDoes traveling fast in a car on the freeway increase the chances of a Pokémon running away? I was on the freeway today with an incense on for about an hour, going 60-70 mph and every single Pokémon I encountered only let me toss one ball at it before it would immediately run away no matter how good my throw was. It's this normal!?

4 RisposteSaw 4 other people using pokemon go in Hyde park today. Just got the app and loving it! Still kinda bitter about a gastly that ran away >.>

-
2 RisposteI can't even get the game :( Need iOS 8.0+ but I can't fit it on this shitty phone
-
5 RisposteI'm a little confused by how the AR works. I turn it on and I can't find the Pokemon. Every once in awhile these lines will pop up, and I'll hear the Pokemon's cry like it was surprised, but I don't see anything. It's kind of making me worry my phone isn't working right with the app.

9 RisposteHey, everyone. If you're unable to sign in due to server issues, try disconnecting from WiFi and sign in using Mobile Data. For whatever reason, this works for me, so maybe it'll work for some of you as well.
