***UPDATE***
After heeding a lot of the advice given in this thread, I think I'm kind of getting the hang of using shotguns now. While these two games are nothing to really write home about, I am seeing a great deal of improvement to my movement, positioning and overall performance with shotguns.
A huge shout out to those who were so kind to offer their input and advice. I really couldn't have got this far this quickly without all your suggestions, tips and tricks.
I still have a very long way to go before I become more consistent, so if anyone has some critiques on the following videos on what I can do better, I'd really appreciate it.

I've been trying for a long time now to try and figure out how to play effectively with shotguns. Being a passive player by nature and preferring sniping over to the run and gun style that some are so fond of hasn't helped me at all.
My question is, how the heck do you guys do it? I know it's about positioning, but how in the world do you manage to avoid getting mowed down by enemy players fire or close the gap so efficiently without dying in the process?
I find myself whenever I'm trying to close the gap, even when I try to jump around cover to juke my enemies, they almost always manage to kill me before I can get in close ( I try not to force shotgun fights if there is at least 4-5 guardian lengths away from me) or I am immediately gunned down by their team mates. (I'm using shade step by the way)
It's so damn aggravating, I simply don't understand how to do better. I may be over thinking it, but I don't know how to "stop" over thinking it.
I should note, that I am playing 6v6, but I can't imagine that should be playing a whole lot into it, since I CONSTANTLY see people going about and absolutely wrecking with shotguns (they just are better at them than I).
3-4 games most recently, I failed to even go positive due to how garbage I've been playing, that I had to get up and walk away before I put my controller through my TV screen.
I've tried watching players like Luminosity and other players like him who are pretty much gods at playing aggressively and apply their tactics, but have been failing miserably.
EDIT: I've added some videos to showcase how I've been playing (along with all the mistakes I've made)
The following videos are from the last IB held earlier this month.

This was my most recent games using Shade step (was up against a clan, and was getting wrecked in the second video sadly)

For the sake of comparison, this is how I play usually with a sniper rifle.

1 RispondiOk how the f#ck do you snipe in this game and pull of quickscope headshits in shotgun range
-
Sliding is your friend. Also, always be on the the move. Use cover to your advantage and never take a guy head on.
-
Corners are your bff!
-
6 RisposteA good one is if you know some one is around the corner wait for them to move slightly then sprint jump high and look down and of you see them shotgun then punch is should be seamless. Slide shotgun punch

I am a shotgunner and not a pro but i have won 1v3 with only a shotgun...trust me...shotguns arent easy to use...i preferably use bladedancer with fleeted foot and max agility bc sliding around will be your best friend if your a shotgunner...i also use blink bc that disorientates most people by blinking at them...but try to close gaps...i like using khepris sting with my shotgun bc of the invis...my not stay for long but its quite help full...thats just me

1 RispondiIt's all about balance. I may not be the best player, but I most definitely have my moments. Always know what's available to you- abilities, ammo, entrances, escape points, enemies, allies. Keep a mental clock of everything and just use it to your advantage. Take risks, but always be prepared to turn back if needed. Most of all, find what you like, what you have the most fun with, and roll with it. Don't use the meta just because it's the meta. I roll with Radiant Skin, Solar Grenades, Grasp of Malok, Plan C. Very, very unorthodox, but I make it work. Find what you can make work.

Modificato da sergantsnipes05: 4/20/2016 11:47:42 PMequip a shotgun, slide around corners. You'll get kills. Shotgunning inst hard at all right now nor has it been at any point in Destiny's lifespan. Shotguns were STILL the most used 6v6 weapon even before this last patch, yet nobody bothered to mention that when they were bitching about snipers

6 RisposteModificato da Axsios: 4/20/2016 4:13:04 PMShotguns require alot more mindskill and thinking rather than gunskill although primaries are important to the playstyle as well. Here are some tips that I can give to improve your shotgun game over all. 1. Have a good shotgun, preferably a partycrasher with rifled barrel because it has good impact range AND Handling , Ill get to handling later. 2. Know when you can push, This is probally the most important tip I can give. If you push a corridor thats too long - you die. If you push a 3v1 - you die If you push someone who baits you around a corner they turn around - you die. Say someone is on B flag on asylum and you are coming from A. You have solid cover from the doors, you also have quite the gap to close. You have to weigh your options "I can rush this kid and kill him before his team gets there but I also could die running out." This is hard to explain because this skill is learned by doing much more than reading. 3. Know when to use a primary. Shotguns can't always finish the job but they can get alot of it done. If someone looks far away for your shotty then put some shots in with your primary then rush and slide shotgun. Maybe the shotgun doesn't do all the work, after every kill if you are too far to melee than you have to pull a primary to finish the job. 4. Be agile! Know your cover, know your map, know where you can go!! Agility also affects handling which affects how fast you can draw and aim your shotty. 5. Slide more than you run Slide is really important to shotguns. You are a smaller target, harder to hit. 6. Use all abiliteis you have. You need to use everything you have to your advantage. 7. Play dirty!!! Use the meta weapons, Use enviornmental hazards, play warlock like me, get crispy teamshots etc. Alot of this is hard for me to explain because I learned all of this by teaching myself since the beta but those are the main tips I can give.

Lol blink. Or juggernaut on titan makes it easier
-
Best way no lie ...... Aim at the ground a bit while running so your reticle is ready for getting above others . Next is rush always even if you might die , if they're using a shotgun/ last word you'll just have to be faster if not , there's nothing they can do when your in their face . Sliding is also pretty important for nose diving shots

3 RisposteI find using a shotgun to be the easiest style of play...
-
4 RisposteI got a party crasher with agility, rangefinder and performance bonus.
He he he
Modificato da PriSimZ: 4/19/2016 5:51:48 PMi just started using universal remote. messing kids up with shotty snipe. pretty op. i also run blink whenever i shotgun
-
2 RisposteJuggernaut+shotgun=a gay old time
-
3 RisposteWhen I shotgun, I use mida as my primary, no matter what subclass I'm running. Just to make sure I have max agility. When I run voidwalker and bladedancer, I blink and mid blink I will switch to my shotgun. If I'm running nightstalker, I run bones and better control and I switch mid jump. <--- this is damn near unbeatable if you know what you're doing.
-
Having high awareness is def a big part in shot gunning especially in this passive meta. Also knowing when to use your primary. Good movement as well, I've been shot gunning since year one and still do now.
-
3 RisposteInvective - the high impact shotties like Consipracy Theory are great for how lethal they are.... but the full auto and range of invective means you can down someone with last word or doctrine of passing at pretty ridiculopus ranges for a shottie, yeah it takes 2-4 rounds, but even with the ammo regen nerf invective still creates enough ammo to allow you to more or less use it as a primary. Pair it with a doctrine type ARO to go all-in for CQB, or a strong scout for a more balanced load out. when corner camping, I have found much more success when I rush the corner right before they come around it, if you let them come around the corner and try to be stationary and camp they usually expect that, if you rush the corner before they get around it, they don't expect that. also- jump around corners, come down on their head, shooting. invective's full auto works wonders here again. I find I lose most times if I try to slide-shotgun someone looking at me, but if I've flanked and they are engaged in my teammates, and I slide in, they see me on radar about the time I start my slide, and are dead about the time they've turned towards me. also - if you poke your head out, and see scouts and snipers, turn around and run, and then turn around and wait, let them come to you, then camp and blast. all advise from s scrub....
-
21 RispostePoint in their general direction and pull the trigger. Shotgunning is literally the easiest thing this game has to offer.
-
15 RisposteI know that this is completely obvious lol, but it's important. Don't miss. It's actually really Easy to completely whiff and miss while sliding and jumping around with a shotty. And with a slow firing shotty like conspiracy or her champion, if you miss your first shot, you're usually -blam!-ed.

Modificato da E-Sentinel: 4/18/2016 5:19:34 PMI use puppeteer with shadestep, with L1 and X switched for maximum control while playing. I main Titan, so learn how to skate, I use L1 and X switched here to so I have maximum control while in the air. Here's me after practicing titan skating for about 2 weeks. https://youtu.be/3zuv1awyl0w

Modificato da Emp6ft10in: 4/18/2016 4:59:56 PMIf you are a passive player go to the dark side and become a blade dancer who maximizes invisibility. Play the map and radar well and wait for anyone to walk into your shotgun web. And if you can swing it use a good scout or even NLB so you can fallback to your normal play style at the drop of a hat. Have fun!

Plan C takes no prisoners!
-
1 Rispondi[armory]Hard Light[/armory] The solution.
-
3 RisposteUse abilities that help you. Typically being a Sunsinger rusher doesn't work, you haven't got the mobility that other classes have. Classes with Blink have a good advantage. The two classes that make the best for rushing would be Nightstalker because of the Shadestep ability and the Striker for the Juggernaut ability. Juggernaut warriors are the most annoying thing to deal with, most people will just turn tail and run.
-
1 RispondiJust use a fusion rifle.
-
2 RisposteBest way to improve, record, forget and few weeks later record again, Then watch both. I remember sir hovey saying that.
