The last time I was on the forums, fanboys were saying that microtransactions in Destiny would ALWAYS be cosmetic only and that anyone who could even consider any other possibility was a crazy person who should seek psychiatric help. The fanboys often repeated this assumption accompanied with profanity and personal insults and then went back to their usually scheduled activity of bashing anyone posting feedback on the feedback forums as a "hater" who was "ruining other people's enjoyment with negativity".
Now kotaku says that Eververse is selling level boosters, telemetries, and other perks that are NOT purely cosmetic.
http://kotaku.com/destiny-is-now-selling-level-boosters-and-they-sure-co-1748105644
** Clarification: Apparently the level boosters were sold through the console stores, not Eververse. This is entirely irrelevant to my point. It's still a grossly-overpriced microtransaction that is NOT purely cosmetic. **
Is kotaku wrong, or did I miss the droves of shame-faced fanboys admitting that they were wrong and apologizing for the way they treated those players who saw the writing on the wall?
Edited to add: Whether you see a level booster as "pay to win" isn't really the issue. Even telemetries are NOT purely cosmetic.
But a level 25 booster, especially if it comes with a class skill booster and telemetries, gives that player a distinct advantage over other starting players. Not everyone in the game is already max Light with a vault full of fully-upgraded, top tier weapons. Crucible might normalize weapon damage, but it doesn't adjust for disparities in unlocked weapon perks or class abilities, and the guy with the booster can do higher level content sooner giving him access to better gear, faster.
If people overlook Bungle's selling level boosts as microtransactions in Destiny, they only have themselves to blame when later games in the series get ever closer to true Pay to Win.
And, Yes, I'm a little late with this. I've been away about five months.
Thank you to Smoothrivers for the link.

1 Rispondi2015 just called, they said you left your butt plug in their bed.
-
1 RispondiI bought 2 lol. No regrets. They're running a business not a charity.
-
2 RisposteOkay, so I start a new character and use a Spark of Light...VIOLA! I'm now light level 25 and I jump into VoG. I proceed to get my ass handed to me because I can't jump, my grenades are a joke and my armor / recovery / agility stats are pathetic. Sounds more like masochism to me.
-
I would just delete your post and or your account!!
-
1 RispondiBreaking news like this...OMG.....you should have just stayed gone. It's clear you have no clue what pay-to-win actually is.
-
1 RispondiYeah but I can just go buy telemetry items from the gunsmith for not real money
-
3 RisposteFor all those people trying to claim I'm a tinfoil-hat-wearing conspiracy theorist, you sound exactly like the guys claiming Bungle would never, ever, ever have microtransactions that weren't purely cosmetic. I turned out to be right, and they turned out to be wrong. But don't let that tell you anything. But more importantly, consider this: if it's so far-fetched to think that letting this sort of thing slide will have a detrimental effect on subsequent games and maybe even gaming in general, then why is it already happening?
Game X is gonna be a Destiny-killer! Oops! No, it's not. Game Y is gonna be a Destiny-killer! Oops! No, it's not. Game Z is gonna be a Destiny-killer! Oops! No, it's not.
And on and on and on… The truth is that right now, the market is flooded with inferior games full of the kind of crap that earned Destiny so much hate. You didn't put a stop to it by refusing to support that nonsense when it first started showing up in games, and now - even though game companies have budgets rivalling those for blockbuster films and a technical credits list that's easily double the size - the games are getting worse, not better. You let them ruin gaming. And I *HATE* you for it.
-
7 RisposteThat's not pay 2 win.
-
1 Rispondi
Edited to add: Whether you see a level booster as "pay to win" isn't really the issue. Even telemetries are NOT purely cosmetic.
It actually is kind of the point because, you know, your title. Either way, it's not. Get a grip.
-
5 RisposteLol, your tinfoil hat must be really tight.
-
1 RispondiThis is on Xbox as well and how is reaching lv25 pay to win? Last I check, pay to win give you something to make you more powerful then other players. Sorry but this isn't pay to win, Halo 5 is pay to win.
-
3 RisposteGee... 5 levels after half of the xp level cap is pay to win now. Especially if everybody gets one for free per account...
-
1 RispondiInteresting! We all got this package when we bought TTK, I still have my level 25 booster in my vault (had no use for it since I am y1 player). Had no idea Sony was selling them separately. I don't know how I feel about this at this point, but you're right, this feels like a baby step towards pay to win gaming. I can cross my fingers and hope this is only a small blip and the micro transactions stay cosmetic!
-
6 RisposteYes because level 25 is gonna have such a HUGE advantage in the normalize PvP mode, even more so in Iron Banner.....oh wait
-
3 RisposteSo, yeah, this is negative feedback, getting mad over something that isn't really happening, and acting like it's something it's not.
-
2 RisposteI agree with you 100%. But the real issue is that the majority of people that still play destiny are already at level 40 and too ignorant to see that an up to lvl 25 boost is still pay to win. It's a shame.
-
Bump for truth, however you are correct sir.
-
7 Risposte$30 bucks, who's gonna pay 30 bucks just to get to level 25, sounds like a ripoff to me
-
13 RisposteExplain how using a level booster to " level 25 " is pay to win.
-
7 RisposteThought you could only get the level boost from the PlayStation store and the Xbox equivalent (sorry I don't know what's it's called)? They have been available for a while that way. And I'm pretty sure the telemetrys was just a rumor that activision quashed. You sure you aren't reading old news??
-
1 RispondiKotaku says a lot of stuff that's not true
-
6 RisposteA jump to level 25, without any progress on subclass, is hardly winning. It just let's you start the taken king content immediately. You can level to 25 in 2 afternoons, without paying. It's not like they're getting max level gear.
-
1 RispondiYou kind of late with this aren't you?
-
4 RisposteModificato da PèrsønaNōtFoünd: 3/24/2016 7:56:52 PMI have seen these as well but the items given to anyone who buys the level pack was given to anyone who got taken king. The reason no one complains is because A. Not many know and B. It boosts you to level 25 a level where you can begin the new content, which doesn't seem like anything insane. Though I understand why you don't like it I would say though, that they don't necessarily lead to a pay to win system as they were a concept to get you to a place where you could enjoy some of the games best content without hating the game after grinding there
-
Ok you're really late on the lvl booster thing and that's a complete scam for anyone dumb enough to buy it. It's more like pay to compete...faster? It's a dumb situation entirely but old news
-
1 RispondiLol that was such a rip off of anyone did buy it. But it wasn't sold threw Tess everise at least she is still not pay to win.
