Most concerning Controversy in the world
Deforestation 100% for me. I put environmental effects mostly because those are the ones that matter the most.

Climate change: there may be something to it, but every doomsday prediction with a date that has arrived so far turned out to be wrong. Deforestation: trees are plants, like corn or wheat. We can (and do) simply plant more. There is not a tree shortage. Smog: local problem, not a major issue in the U.S. China seems to have a problem with it, though. Running out of oil: predictions of peak oil started 90 years ago (it was supposed to happen in the early 1920s) and have continued at regular intervals, all of which turned out to be wrong. Discovery of new forms of hydrocarbons indicates we may not run out for hundreds or thousands of years even with no change in efficiency or use: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2013/05/what-if-we-never-run-out-of-oil/309294/ Etc To me, the biggest threat is the steady growth of government size and power. #2 is terrorism.
