Since the new arrivals to the store, the usual two groups have emerged.
Group A: the whiners that look for anything to call Bungie out on and don't understand what pay to win is
Group B: the level headed group that understands what pay to win actually is and understands how little of an impact this actually has.
Pay to win is not getting to level 25 faster than me because you paid 30 dollars to do so. Level 25 doesn't have any advantage and I will reach that level in ten hours of gameplay. There is nothing about it that lets you "win" over me especially for the current player base.
Examples of what pay to win really is:
- buying an exclusive subclass
- buying an exclusive exotic weapon or armor
- buying a boost that significantly (like way greater than 3of coins) increases exotic drop rate and is usable all the time
- buying something that would be required to play content such as the raid
- buying things that would give you a significant advantage over every other player in the crucible
Now that you have real examples of what pay to win is, maybe you can make a better decision next time before coming and bitching on he forums about things you claim to be, but are not, pay to win.
Edit: Good fucking God I did not expect this to catch this much attention. I hope you all realize I won't be reading these comments lol. But thanks for giving me my first trending post! I will add some follow up points below.
1.) it is a slippery slope, I agree with that much, but it is in no way pay to win, no matter which tiniest little scenario you come up with in which it shows a glimpse of that nature, this has no effect on "winning" considering we were all given the spark of light for free when we bought ttk
2.) people are saying I'm the kind of person that would defend them even if they sold 320 gear. No..no I would not be. Selling end game gear, although it is something earn-able, is not something I would be okay with. What this current boost does is get you caught up quickly if you really want to blow 30 dollars, not allow you to spend money on something to get endgame gear while others have to grind for it. Not okay with that in the slightest.
3.) if Bungie ever sells anything available only through purchase with real world money that gives a significant advantage, like if they had sold the touch of malice or a thorn 2.0, that was not obtainable in game, I would be standing right alongside the rest of you rioting and protesting. Or if they sold any exotic gear for that matter.
4.) to recap, pay to win is not this. Pay to win is being able to buy something significantly advantageous that is completely unobtainable in game. But I would still not be okay with them selling anything of real importance in game. But xp boosters? The least of my worries.
Edit: I notice a number of you mentioning the "cosmetic only" promise. Technically, they still haven't broken it because eververse is what they were referring to. These items are sold through the console store :p (I'm just being a troll lol, but I do get what you're saying)

Lol it's like the gateway version.
I hope you all realize I won't be reading these comments lol.
Fukin savage! The microtransaction model Bungie uses is SO FAR very mild compared to some others out there. The moment they start to sell anything besides EXP bonus items or consumables it will become abit more complicated, but when it comes to such things I couldnt care less... The line would be crossed if they started selling Strange coins, 3oC, consumables increasing raid drops. There is the line that CANT be crossed.

Unobtainable gear/loot that gives players a advantage over those who didn't pay.
-
The slippery slope is invalid. Just because something appears to be heading in a direction doesn't mean it will. With that said, the instant actual pay to win is in game I will stop supporting and defending Destiny.
-
Most people know its not pay to win, theyre angry about the stupid pricing, how pointless it is and that its a lame attempt tocash grab at new comers over christmas that dont know any better.

1 RispondiMICROTRANSACTIONS HAVE NO PLACE IN A LOOT BASED GAME. Unless they can be attained through the in game loot system they make no sense. "Legendary" emotes aren't any more rare than the "rare" emotes. They are labeled with a purple background to make them seem more valuable. This is so people will want to buy them more, thus the price is higher. They should be removed from this game or added to the loot pool(but be very rare.)

4 RisposteYou alongside many other people are looking at it as, it's not effecting YOU. No it does not effect MOST people, but it does effect new players. You're just selfish and blind.

Many a desticle was seen here today

According to apologists pay to win will always be one step above what Bungie does.

9 RisposteModificato da Blackout: 12/15/2015 11:59:08 PMI feel like you've misunderstood group A. People aren't worried about Destiny being pay to win NOW. They're worried about Destiny BECOMING pay to win. Every little addition seems to be getting closer to those bullet points you mentioned. You say group B is filled with level-headed people. But if you cannot see group A's side of the argument and immediately call them all whiners, that doesn't seem very level-headed to me. People are just trying very hard to avoid the seemingly inevitable future that is pay to win Destiny. It's something that nobody who actually gives a damn about this game wants to see happen.

Modificato da Stives09: 12/16/2015 7:01:30 AMThen clash of clans and warframe aren't pay to win.... Come on dude this is pay to win. The hundreds of other examples of definitive pay to win games all allow for the acquisition of purchased materials through the grind. They're still pay to win. I'm usually on your side laughing at all the crybabies that bitch about non-issues in the game. This, well this is pretty bad. I'll probably still buy the next DLC/expansion/destiny 2, but this hurts because I love this game and this is an actual blow to its integrity.
-
1 RispondiI see it this way: Save $30 and take 2 hours or so to grind to level 25 OR Work for 2 hours, and have enough money to buy the spark, all the emotes available, the SRL package, and have enough money left over for beer and a (very) cheap hooker. Also I will still be bad at the game so there's no pay to win here.
-
5 RisposteYou forgot Group C: People that play the game regardless of what the company does until the servers are turned off.
-
I would really like to hear how exactly people have been disadvantaged by someone using "pay to Win", i'm not talking about hypotethical loopholes, i want to hear real experiences.
-
6 RisposteDo you know how many no lifers this game has? Every time they release new content, there are players who create the same class characters, level them to max, do the new raid/content, delete that character, and start over again to get as many chances at rng as they can. Selling an instant lvl 25 cuts "10" hours of work those no lifers have to grind. The amount of rng rolls they can have in a week is completely unobtainable by someone who does not buy bungies digital candy. That is pay to win. Period.
-
1 RispondiMost people aren't complaining about pay to win. We are complaining that bungie didn't keep their promise about cosmetic only.
-
12 RisposteWell, I was inclined to agree with you. But then I'm playing SRL these days and I use the first sparrow the quest gave me for that. I had won something like 3 games over 75 played but lately I was not able to ever win a match. The best I could do was 2nd position and I was putting a good effort in it. So I thought wow I suck a lot... I will never be able to complete the quest and get that cool sparrow. So I bought it. And guess what? Now I can win EASY! The old sparrow is no match for the new one and so, guess again, this IS pay to win.
-
Finally someone who understands.
-
3 RisposteIs there an edition of TTK that doesn't come with one character boost? So now people can buy boosts if they're starting their second or third character and the forums go crazy?
-
1 RispondiPay to win: A way that benefits you over others buy paying real world money. Say you and 4 others have 10 tanks in a game Once you and the 4 others don't have anymore tanks, you have to grind to find one But if you purchase one with real money, you have a bigger advantage against the 4 other people.

7 Risposte"its just cosmetics emotes cant hurt anyone" "they are just masks and are for fun, everyone needs to calm down" "they are just cosmetically different sparrows this isn't a big deal " and now "this isn't pay to win, you guys just don't know what pay to win means" Keep on supporting this shit until bungie ruins whatever is left of this game, whats next? oh yeah this year two ghorn for 40 bucks is no big deal, there are far better guns to choose from anyways."

1 Rispondijust the fact that you trying so hard to defend this ripoff shows its wrong
