Imprecation 7 precision kill step

So I am trying in vain to get the 7 precision kill in crucible step on imprecation. I have never been a fan of boosting with a partner because I figure all challenges are meant to be just that, challenges. However, this step is killing me. I'm not all together horrible at PvP, but apparently I am not good enough for this one. I infused the thing to 268 before finalizing the infuse, and I typically need at least three shots to take someone down. At best I have gotten to 5 precision kills before the match ends. I noticed that just about every second shot hits the head, but because I inevitably need the third to take them down, i miss out on the headshot kill. Sort of reminds me of Ill Will from HoW. It made me think, maybe I should have infused this sucker to 280-290 to improve the overall damage of the gun by keeping my average light higher. The thing is, I know crucible normalizes everyone to approximately the same level (unless its IB or ToO) so I am not sure if this makes a difference. Had anyone tried and seen a difference in the damage ratio with the gun? I know hand cannons have been nerfed, so generally this quest is already more difficult than it should be on some level. I just happen to like hand cannons though so I am willing to suffer for it. Lastly, anyone got a strategy that works pretty well to do this part of the quest? Edit: thanks for the help folks, guess I'll try some of the things listed here. Edit 2: Thanks again to everyone for the help, I actually got it done last night without having to boost. Did try abandoning quest and dismantling the imprecation. Then infused it to 284. Still not sure if this made much of a difference, but my overall light took less of a hit. What worked for me was the Daily crucible playlist. It seems to attract all player types who need legendary marks, so I am not stuck playing against full fireteams running red deaths, necros and other high end stuff. The map was Asylum which worked well in clash since everybody congregates at the top of the center stairs. There are waist level railings on either side of the stairs and people tended to duck behind them. With a little luck and lots of priming from teammate fire, I was able to slip in and out of the doorways to snag 7 headshots, the first 4 without even dying. Hope this tip helps someone else! Gonna keep the Daily in mind now for the Chaperone quest and the rest of the sword. Of course now I see that a buff is coming to handguns and the first curse on Tuesday maybe, so now I am fairly pleased I got this done. Good luck to anyone else working on this one!
