Caterpillar and getting kicked off of Xbox Live completely (SOLVED!!!!!!!!)

Update: We found the solution to our problem. I hope this whole post can help those who are having Error code Caterpillar issues, and networking problems such as getting constant kicks off of Xbox Live. We know beyond a reasonable doubt that it is our modem/router this whole time. I explained everything below. Still having massive problems, and judging the other posts it seems I'm not the only one with problems now (which is a bit of a relief on my part, I thought I was the only one for a while). I feel like I literally tried everything to help remedy this whole situation. My husband has an Xbox 360 in his game room right next to the bedroom I play in, but he has literally ZERO PROBLEMS and he is getting massively frustrated about my situation. He tried to help me do research on how to fix my connection issues, and we feel like we tried everything, so he gave up but here I am, throwing my hands up in the air AGAIN. Here's a list of things we've tried: 1. Changed to NAT 1 2. Configured our Xboxes so that we now have static IPs 3. Bought a brand spanking new cable cord and am wired from my Xbox into our modem/router directly (we thought initially that the wire was the problem) 4. We called Time Warner on the verge of tearing our hair out but they said that there were no problems on their end that they could see so they told us to contact you guys, which I did, I have other posts somewhere and received wonderful advice from others, but nothing seemed to have helped. 5. We tried turning our systems off and rebooting everything, including our modem/router/network but to no avail. 6. We ruled bandwidth out as a problem as we've tested it already. 7. Tried clearing system cache. 8. Changed IP settings from Automatic to Manual. 9. Changed IP settings back to Automatic. 10. It appears Time Warner is not throttling our connection. 11. Already tried Bungie's network troubleshooting guide and it did not work. 12. We have UPnP enabled on our network. 13. Hooked up my old hard drive to a different Xbox 360 to see if my own Xbox 360 was the problem. Still having major issues with Caterpillar and getting kicked off of Xbox Live. 14. Uninstalling and reinstalling everything did not help. 15. Called Time Warner (again) to see if there were any Packet Loss or Latency issues. There were none. 16. Apparently I just found out that I have this same problem on multiple games that require Xbox Live to play. I keep getting booted from Xbox Live. 17. Firewall is not an issue, we checked it several times when checking for other problems. 18. I called Motorolla/ISP, and they helped me with my Port Forwarding. I now have it and I checked it several times, it is correct. Port Forwarding did not fix the issue of getting kicked off of Xbox Live. 19. Turns out it was our modem/router all this time that was causing Caterpillar issues on Destiny, and getting constantly booted off of Xbox Live. Make sure your modem/router can HANDLE more than one gaming console. A Motorolla Arris cannot. Otherwise, you will be getting a LOT of networking problems. Stay tuned, I'm always troubleshooting. The list will get bigger. So any advice or help would be great, maybe there's that one thing we haven't tried yet. Thank you in advance.

Update: SOLVED. My husband chatted with a Motorolla Arris agent online about our modem/router. The agent told him that our modem/router can only handle one gaming console at a time. So when two gaming consoles are on, one is choking the other for data. It was a first come, first serve situation. On the packaging, it clearly stated that the modem/router gave high performance gaming, but no where on it did it say it can only handle one console. Long story short, we're going to get our money back if we can and get a different modem/router. Turns out it was our modem/router all this time that was causing Caterpillar issues on Destiny, and getting constantly booted off of Xbox Live. Thank you everyone who kindly offered their help here. You helped my husband and I narrow down our problem. Without you, we'd be stuck.

  • Update: Currently rubbing my nose on grindstone trying to get to the bottom of this craziness. So far I have spoken to two different Xbox Live representatives. I am on my third one now, currently live chatting. I have tried to Port Forward with my ISP again because it appears my husband has done it incorrectly. Port Forwarding was a failure, even though everything I put in, advised by the Reps, was absolutely correct beyond a doubt. I am still having major Xbox Live disconnection problems (and Caterpillar from Destiny). The first time I spoke to a Rep, she told me that my Profile was corrupted so I tried to delete and reinstall my profile. Reinstallation was a success, but it did not solve the problem of me getting disconnections. I can say now that it is not Bungie's fault I am having Caterpillar issues. I am disconnecting from Xbox Live playing multiple games that require an internet connection. The reason I am saying this is so that if anyone else is having an issue, maybe I can somehow enlighten them in some way... I guess we'll see. I am truly breaking my back here trying to solve this horrible... horrible thing. Gonna have nightmares about this now. Not that serious, I know, but you know, I would sure like to play games again. Haha.

Update: Trying to play a different game on Xbox 360 that requires Xbox Live/internet connection. Having the same issue of being kicked of Xbox Live. o.0 This might open a few more doors for me to get to the bottom of this problem. But seeing as my network isn't the problem (tried everything related to networking issues at this point)... I just... don't understand it at all. I guess I better go to Xbox's website. /:

  • Have you tried a different modem? 2-in-1 wireless/wired modems sometimes give error codes.

Update: Still having the same problem. My husband borrowed his dad's Xbox 360 and hooked it up to where my old Xbox 360 used to be. Put in my old hard drive. Booted everything up. Ruled my own Xbox 360 out as a problem. Still having horrible Caterpillars, and getting booted off of Xbox Live. We doubt the hard drive is the problem and we're not about to spend even more money to try to fix this problem. Also attempted to redownload everything before. Didn't work. I've tried EVERYTHING. At this point I'm done trying.

    • Hi Aveilthe, It does sound like you have done a lot of troubleshooting already which is great. Can you confirm if you have UPnP enabled on your network? For more information on UPnP, please see this page on the Network Troubleshooting Guide: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Troubleshoot?oid=13612
