Iron Banner Rewards

WARNING: LONG POST Does anyone else think that Iron Banner rewards (post match) should be based upon how well the player does? At least for the Iron Banner gear, that is. I play a decent amount of Iron Banner and it seems like the players who pull up the rear with a 0.4 kdr are often getting the gear drops. I tend to do reasonably well, usually top 2-3 on team and top 5 in match, which may lead you to believe that it is a rant because I am not getting good loot. False, I have gotten my fair share over time. Heck I have even gotten multiple weapons from one match. This is simply an existential observation from personal experience of who seems to get the better loot more often. I understand that many people want to play Iron Banner, even if they are not the greatest PvP players, and I am all for it. However Iron Banner is made to be competitive and those who legitimately compete in the match should be rewarded for doing so, should they not? What I believe would be a more just system would be to base the probability of getting an Iron Banner gear drop on the performance of the player; a combination of both kdr and total score. Basing the probability on total score alone would put those who play more conservatively at a disadvantage even though they contribute just as much to the match by dying less. Basing the probability on kdr alone is faulted by those who happen to join near the end and finish 2-0 or 3-0. So why not combine the two and reward those who legitimately performed well in all aspects throughout the match? I am interested in how others feel about this so if anyone has any supporting arguments or counter arguments I would be happy to hear them!

  • i agree that rewards should be based on how you contribute. ive been in way to many matches over the last few days that has had people inactive from the begining of the game and ending the game with a k/d of 0/30 but getting iron banner gear and legendary engrams and the people that were actually getting kills only get a mote of light of a couple strange coins.

    this is not cod and it should not be treated like cod. awarding gear based on kdr and points earned is a very bad idea. conservative play matters and not every player can be the best. not everyone can get the best pvp guns not every person can get into a pvp fireteam. if you punish the players you will drive them away from the game and that will kill the game.

      Well, if not skill-based make it a lot less biased to the bottom players. In the majority of iron banner games I've played both year one and two, it's always been the bottom three rewarded. I think of myself as pretty bad a lot of the time in pvp, and yet the past couple games I've had, the rest of the team always seems to be doing worse than me. It's getting to the stage where every game I play I lose because the rest of the players aren't good enough.

    • I agree for the most part. I got to rank 5 in my hunter and to be honest, it was a waste until I hit rank 5. My rand 3 package had a 310 artifact. The only IB drop I got was a 288 sleeves and 290 hand cannon (with hidden hand, triple tap and rifled barrel). At 5, I got the new ship and the 315 sidearm with Rangefinder, partial refund, and high caliber rounds. I had to buy the chest piece. Overall, in satisfied but for a while there were times where i would lead the team or have a 2.0+ kd abd not get anything. I'm going to try and get my titan to 5. We'll see how that goes.

    • only read the part saying rewards should be based on performance (it's late, I'm tired) but yes I completely agree. They said in TTK players would be rewarded for doing better in crucible yet the only people I'm seeing get [i]legendary[/i] engrams / IB gear are those who don't do as well/terrible. A friend sent me a picture of a scoreboard, he'd entered a match late, got 1 kill and 3 deaths but still got the IB chest piece?? The top people very rarely seem to get rewards.

      • I got 3 chest pieces in 6 games today at rank 2. 306,305, and 296 in the last game before I hit rank 3. Gotta love this smart loot system

      • Quickly skimmed over your post. Keep playing, trust me you will get tons of drops. Literally got three high level ghost shells just today. Be patient, I know it's hard & RNGjesus doesn't treat everyone the same..

      • It honestly seems to be all RNG but it really does get to you when I 226 light with a .14 gets a 303 chest piece.

        • The problem is how to qualify what "best" is. Is best the player with the top score even if that happens to be attached to a 0.45 k/d? Sure that player may have scored some points but how many points were delivered to the enemy team on a plate with a k/d like that? What about the player that doesn't kill much and finishes with a k/d somewhere in the 2-3 range? Certainly not many points went to the enemy but not much stayed home either and more likely than not orb generation was pretty low as well. Now, imagine [i]if[/i] it were able to actually quantify "best" at match end and it wasn't automatically to the top score. Players would quickly ferret out the metric Bungie used to determine it and those wanting the better rewards would quickly adapt their play to get them...some at the sacrifice of overall victory. No longer will reward-hungry players seek out quality teammates, instead they'll be seeking out the least competent available in order to line their own pockets with the best stuff. That should make for some quality play right there. Now consider the scenario where top score is the sole determining factor for best rewards. As the best players continue to get rewards the casual, lesser, newer, and developing players have to get better before their frustration level rises high enough that they just quit. As that continues to happen and the play gets tougher and tougher (as the frustrated quit) players that were accustomed to getting rewards suddenly find the rewards coming less and less as they've now been moved down the scale because the players beneath them are gone. Eventually players won't just leave PVP, they'll leave the game altogether. This dilution of the player base is exactly what Bungie is trying to avoid.

          • Idk man. This might just be me: every game I've played so far that's lost, the guy with the highest KD has gotten a legendary reward while the rest got blues. Almost every winning game, the highest KD gets a legendary along with the next 1-3 highest KDs. Again, might just be my games.
