I never said it was an MMO. It has several characteristics of an MMO, but it lacks the persistent world for players to populate. And what the game actually is up for debate, something that Activision/Bungie like to allow us to do. Imo, from the perspective of an FPS, it certainly runs dry in little to no time at all. From the perspective of an online-based game, it is not that different from others, but with a fresh way to play with FPS mechanics.
The loot system, imo, is both a strength and a weakness. A strength in that it rewards players randomly so if you are looking for something to play every now and then it is perfect. But it's weakness is for the same reason, random rewards, but for players who like to play for extended periods of time feel cheated because they don't feel like they are getting rewarded for their hours of work.
My guess as to why people are dissatisfied: They can't beat the game. By design, Destiny cannot be beaten, there is nothing to beat. Just little objectives sprinkled here and there. And that is how I feel like Destiny should be enjoyed. In pieces. Trying to race to 320 with Harrowed raid gear or whatever WILL result in frustration in one way or another.
If the drops were always at or above your light level, you'd read the cap in no time and then stop playing until the next expansion. As they are now, it is incredibly difficult to level up and get what you want, making it frustrating for those who are trying to complete the expansion and causing them to quit. So it is a damned if you, damned if you don't scenario.
That is why I recommend players to play the game on and off. Play other games alongside it and don't be in a rush. Set little goals such as clear a step in an exotic questline, clear a few bounties, bump up your light level a point or two. Baby steps, don't rush it.
But I understand some players don't want to take their time, and for that I say that this isn't the game for them.
