So after reading all the known parts of the book of sorrows, I find it nearly impossible to believe that anything short of a god or the traveler itself would ever be able to even stand a chance against Oryx. I don't see how it could ever be possible for a group of 6 guardians to defeat the monstrous, ancient, world eating god that Oryx is portrayed as in the book of sorrows. Sorry, but I'm just not buying it. Anyone else feel the same way?
Edit #1: i get that his tithe was cut off and he was weakebed, buteven if we were strong enough to challenge him in a weak state why didn't he just sing the doxology and call upon the deep before we had the chance to touch him?
The developers created a character that in my opinion was too strong to realistically kill.
Edit #2: everyone is talking about sword logic but I'm fairly certain that sword logic only applies to the hive. Other races don't have "worms" to feed, and sword logic revolves around the concept of feeding your worm so I don't see how it could apply to any non-hive beings.
Edit #3: thanks for all the people telling me that its a video game and nothing is realistic, I wasn't aware. You have been a tremendous help to me and crucial contribution to this post.
Edit #4: I'm aware that a vex was able to emulate sword logic and use it for himself, although I don't think its a stretch to assume that he actually just became stronger through his own means rather than sword logic because the vex mind can change and transform itself with relatively no limitations. And I don't see any evidence that guardians can actually use sword logic. I don't think I was any stronger fighting Oryx than I was earlier in the raid...

There's a time-locked, exotic Grimoire card. Wait a few weeks

We had the light on our side :/

Technically 6 guardians did not kill Oryx. An entire fleet of Awoken was oblitered so that the dreadnaught engines could be disabled. A plan involving stealth drives and several talented people conspired to sneak in and disable the "mega weapon" Thousands of guardians infiltrated the dreadnaught to weaken the overall support structure of the ship. This enables talented guardian to push Oryx into his sword realm. 6 more guardians finally able to kill him in that realm. So I agree with the general question, but saying it was just 6 guardians undervalues all the effort by thousands of other human/awoken/exo in the universe.

The books said alot about how his strength was tired to his children. We kill all the of them before killing Oryx.

8 RisposteYou're playing an fps where you are an alien in a dystopian future planet hopping and killing other alien races and you're worried about realism? Sit back and enjoy champ, dont get too caught up in it.
-
If we weren't able to kill him that would be a pretty crappy raid don't ya think?
-
4 RisposteNot to mention he literally gave us the power to kill him when he slammed his fist. I mean really? Is that actually something that would happen? No it's not. The entire oryx fight goes against the book of sorrows telling about his power
-
3 RisposteReally hate to tell you this but............. It's only a game mate

I had the same thought yesterday. Tons of races have tried to defeat him but 6 guardians go in and totally destroy an age old God

To be fair the campaign revolves around your character becoming Ascendent (equivalent of a Hive Demi-God) so that you have a chances of standing up to Oryx. Also one of the new cards talks about Oryx preparing for his death:
Verse 5:9 — I'll Make Sure. I have made preparations. If I am defeated I know it will be because my understanding of the universe was incomplete. I failed to anticipate some strategy, some nemesis. (Perhaps Taox, if she still lives.) If I am defeated, I know that I will fall to something mighty. Something that craves might, something that loves what I love, which is the Deep, a principle and a power, the versatile, protean need to adapt and endure, to reach out and shape the universe entirely for that purpose, to mutate and redesign and test and iterate so that it can prevail, can seize existence and hold it, certain that this is everything, that there is nothing to life except living. And it has two faces, yet it is one shape. One face is the objective, which is obvious, and the other face is that will to sacrifice things and ideas for a single mission, the mission of becoming the shape, a shape that will not relent, the utter commitment to survival, to draw the right sword and choose where to cut: to allow this hunger to become your weapon. So I will prepare a book, which is a map to a weapon. And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going. And then they will take up my weapon, and they will use it, they will use that weapon, which is all that I am. And armed thus with my past, and my future, and my present (which is a weapon, a weapon that takes whatever is available, a weapon bound to malice), they will mantle me, Oryx, the Taken King. They will become me and I will become them, each of us defeating the other, correcting the other, alloying ourselves into one omnipotent philosophy. Thus I will live forever. I’ll make sure. - See more at: http://destiny-grimoire.info/#Card-700660
In killing Oryx and putting together Touch of Malice you prove his Sword Logic was correct. Insuring that his legacy lives on in you. Also both of Oryx's sisters were given "true" deaths at one point and were brought back through hive rituals, so it's not out of the realm of possibility for a "Oryx: Reborn" DLC in Destiny's ten year plan.

1 RispondiHe was blinded by the blight.

I agree. The entire fight feels unrealistic... Why does he slam on the platforms? Why does he stand still instead of grabbing us and throwing us into space? I was disappointed by the realism (yes I realize how crazy that word sounds when talking about destiny) but at least it was a lot of fun!

1 Rispondi1. The Book of Sorrows is written by Oryx , so it isn't perfectly reliable as a text, similar to how most Historic texts even in the real world. It gives a perspective nothing more. 2. The book also outlines that even Oryx himself knows what would have to be done to defeat him. We accomplish all of those thongs. He writes the book because he knows how truly inevitable his defeat might be, I would go so far as to say he welcomes it. 3. Guardians are in a way a first. We are spawned directly from the spawn of the Traveller himself. Hell Oryx also gains his power from a being that might as well be spawn of the darkness. Guardians are arguably the closest agents of light that have ever existed, the ability to rip dead light from Oryx himself is something no foe had ever wielded before. Other agents of light merely wielded weapons of the light not the light itself as far as we can tell. As powerful as Oryx is, he isn't invincible . He knew it, we proved it. Even Superman has his kyrptonite. We exploited a more powerful beings weaknesses, doesn't make us more powerful until you apply Sword Logic.

Modificato da PSD: 10/21/2015 7:16:24 PMBro... We're full of light! This is why we killed him. We are more powerful than any God in the destiny universe! We are the guardians. The travelers darkest undead secret killing everything and anything for it because that's how we do. And because our ghost said too.., And the speaker.

Unrealistic? Sir/Miss You Realize This Is A Videogame Right? You Know Those Things That Are Unrealistic Because It Can Be Set In The Future, New Past, New Present With Worlds Filled With New Technology, History And What Not So Killing An Over Sized Boss In A VIDEOGAME Is Very Possible Especially Since There Has Been Bigger Bad Guys In Videogames Where You Could Say Its Bull That You Could Kill Them Seriously Why Are You Trying To Find Realism In A Game With Space Aliens That Can Travel In Time
-
He has committed genocide on hundreds if not thousands of civilizations, some of them vast and from the sounds of it far more technologically advanced then we are - alliances of species. It seems far fetched but then it wouldn't be much of a game if he erased what was left of us.

Can someone remind the OP that this is a game and not real life?? /CARLTONDAAAAAANCE!!!!!

1 RispondiMeth is one helluva drug.

The Book of sorrows gave me the impression that oryx wanted to die. I think he wanted to die because he was curious of what would happen upon his death. He'd experienced the throne world deaths of his sisters and others while his pledge was to inquire and explore. It seems logical that his intrigue in death could lead him to want true defeat. But that begs the question as to what happens to the light and power that oryx has absorbed, does it go to his killer, the gaurdians and traveler since we defeated him in sword logic? Is it corrupted? (Side note- It's clear in the book of sorrows that oryx acknowledges how much he's needs his lieutenants to feed his worm and survive, so I agree with those commenting about us starving oryx). It looks to me that the Darkness takes light while the Traveler gives it, though it makes me think that the traveler was given its light by others to begin with. My theory is that it's the basis of two battling ideologies. -end somewhat irrelevant rant

2 RisposteModificato da Brandon4K210: 10/21/2015 6:47:45 PMGuys.... Oryx is not dead. Run the raid again, and you will see.
See, Oryx is alive and fine.
Maybe your guardian ;)
-
Yea I read the book of sorrows too and I don't get it. From what I read Oryx should've been waayyyy beyond our league. Like ants vs a giant boot.
-
At the end I believe they say Oryx isn't actually slain. I feel like he'll be back again.
-
6 RisposteHe brought his throne world into this realm, it made him weaker to native life like us but almost immortal when invaded by interdimensional threats like the Vex. That's what the Book of Sorrows seemed to say.
-
Oryx was killed in his throne world, which is supposed to be "a real death" such as in the books of sorrow when he kills savathûn and xivu arath for good to gain enough sword logic to learn how to call forth the Deep (darkness). However, he brings them back later through actions related to their worms, which I believe was war (xivu) and cunning (savathûn). Oryx's worm was related to conquest/ understanding. We slayed oryx, we have the ability to bring him back through an action of conquest.

Uhh, no shit Killing Taken is unrealistic.
