So after reading all the known parts of the book of sorrows, I find it nearly impossible to believe that anything short of a god or the traveler itself would ever be able to even stand a chance against Oryx. I don't see how it could ever be possible for a group of 6 guardians to defeat the monstrous, ancient, world eating god that Oryx is portrayed as in the book of sorrows. Sorry, but I'm just not buying it. Anyone else feel the same way?
Edit #1: i get that his tithe was cut off and he was weakebed, buteven if we were strong enough to challenge him in a weak state why didn't he just sing the doxology and call upon the deep before we had the chance to touch him?
The developers created a character that in my opinion was too strong to realistically kill.
Edit #2: everyone is talking about sword logic but I'm fairly certain that sword logic only applies to the hive. Other races don't have "worms" to feed, and sword logic revolves around the concept of feeding your worm so I don't see how it could apply to any non-hive beings.
Edit #3: thanks for all the people telling me that its a video game and nothing is realistic, I wasn't aware. You have been a tremendous help to me and crucial contribution to this post.
Edit #4: I'm aware that a vex was able to emulate sword logic and use it for himself, although I don't think its a stretch to assume that he actually just became stronger through his own means rather than sword logic because the vex mind can change and transform itself with relatively no limitations. And I don't see any evidence that guardians can actually use sword logic. I don't think I was any stronger fighting Oryx than I was earlier in the raid...

doxology cant happen if the worms arent being fed and those worms power the hive abilites and they feed off of light and he has created his throne world his physical body can be destroyed but will return until you kill him in his throne world which is created by the worms power so thats why you see light eater orges and orbs of replished light in the raid the orbs are being corrupted in the orge so they can create the corrupted light which the worms consume and oryx cant handle unstable corrupted light since we detonate them but if it were stable CL he would be able to handle them since the vessel of oryx will go around eating them healing oryx once you steal the brand

How about with help from the queens harbingers?
-
6 RisposteFunny Crota was said to slay hundreds of guardians but I remember soloing him
-
Sword logic applies when you are in Oryx's throne world, which we are in the raid. Actually, his throne world is woven into the very fabric of the Dreadnaught. We know it applies to more than the Hive because the Vex used it to great effect in their war against the Hive and against Crota.
-
Nothing is realistic in a 'video game'
-
Oryx wasn't infallible. He was challenged many times over the course of his destructive rampage. And guardians are something new. Never faced before in the universe (that we know of)
-
Well he isn't dead. At least not yet
-
We blew him up with massive orbs of light. How's that hard to swallow?
-
Dude this game is unrealistic. Frankly they make things a big threat when they aren't even that good
-
You do realize hardly any of Destiny is realistic because it's not supposed to be...
-
What are these worms?
-
He died in his throne world. Hes gone.

4 RisposteModificato da Purestrain: 10/22/2015 1:21:09 AMBetter question is why fly tomb ships around allowing a unpassable gap to b passable. Hell they don't even shoot at you
-
Modificato da Spartan1732: 10/22/2015 3:52:36 AMIt also mentions in the game and grimoire that our Guardians light is unnaturally strong. Just think about what we have accomplished, and what many thousands could not.
-
Modificato da Ronin Tanuki: 10/22/2015 3:47:30 AMWhat, the alleged "lore" of this game, lore that you're meant to extrapolate from an external source, doesn't flow with the in-game content!? No way.
-
The sword logic applies to all things in the throne world.
-
Modificato da Mr.Spartan126: 10/22/2015 3:04:31 AMYou read the book, so you know
when Croat cut open a wound and vex came out, they then killed 10,000 thrall and 2,000 acolytes, which made them powers in the throne world according to the sword logic.
-
2 RisposteHive sword logic would elevate a fireteam to godlike levels of power as they see it. So by time you reach Oryx it would be a battle of gods and not of just six mortals
-
Physically oryx never attacks you. Unless your dumb enough to get smashed when he fists the podiums. Yes he shoots but he is a terrible shot.
-
We dont know if he is actually dead. All that happens is he floats off into space, whereas all the other raid bosses disintegrate
-
5 RisposteIf you read it then you'd know that when we triggered the blights we became gods and could've fulfilled oryx a godly duties but we threw it away instead to kill him
-
1 RispondiOf course we didn't kill him yet, why do you think there's a hard mode raid.
-
This is make believe, right?
-
1 RispondiTechnically if wiped once during the raid, your guardians died and never came back. But cause this is a video game being consumed by the darkness isn't a perminate 'game over'
-
4 RisposteClearly you don't know that oryx wanted us to kill him so he could be essentially reincarnated in the Touch of Malice. The vex also used the worms to acquire and utilize sword logic but they didn't consume them. Re-read your books of sorrow my friend

Don't care about lore as it's barely in-game. Only care about killing. Killing and reaping the rewards.
