So after reading all the known parts of the book of sorrows, I find it nearly impossible to believe that anything short of a god or the traveler itself would ever be able to even stand a chance against Oryx. I don't see how it could ever be possible for a group of 6 guardians to defeat the monstrous, ancient, world eating god that Oryx is portrayed as in the book of sorrows. Sorry, but I'm just not buying it. Anyone else feel the same way?
Edit #1: i get that his tithe was cut off and he was weakebed, buteven if we were strong enough to challenge him in a weak state why didn't he just sing the doxology and call upon the deep before we had the chance to touch him?
The developers created a character that in my opinion was too strong to realistically kill.
Edit #2: everyone is talking about sword logic but I'm fairly certain that sword logic only applies to the hive. Other races don't have "worms" to feed, and sword logic revolves around the concept of feeding your worm so I don't see how it could apply to any non-hive beings.
Edit #3: thanks for all the people telling me that its a video game and nothing is realistic, I wasn't aware. You have been a tremendous help to me and crucial contribution to this post.
Edit #4: I'm aware that a vex was able to emulate sword logic and use it for himself, although I don't think its a stretch to assume that he actually just became stronger through his own means rather than sword logic because the vex mind can change and transform itself with relatively no limitations. And I don't see any evidence that guardians can actually use sword logic. I don't think I was any stronger fighting Oryx than I was earlier in the raid...

22 RisposteTo me it is unrealistic and just junk story. 6 jerks in capes can kill a god because of worm logic. Lame. But the raid is still fun. An actual God isn't killable, that's what a god is: Immortal, all knowing, and therefore not going to be killed by mortals.
-
4 RisposteThat one vex mind was able to use the sword logic in the books of sorrow, and though it experimented on worms it never fed them.
-
Its a game. You fly on sparrows. Travel to time. Use light as power. Have a personal space ship. A metallic ghost with artificial intelligence Laser weapons Same gravity on any of the planets. Etc Etc Etc FICTION
-
2 RisposteMaybe a more realistic way was to banish him? Or chain him up? The only way to get rid of an immortal^
-
2 RisposteWell based on the Book of Sorrows, killing Crota in his throne world made us damn near gods.
-
Sword logic is written into the fundamental laws of the universe the hive inhabit. The reason why Oryx is using a ship as his main base of operations is because it's also his mobile pocket dimension. The reason for this is because his sisters found pathways into his old dimension and could actually kill him for real if they struck at him within it. We defeated his horcruxes across all the worlds. Killed his physical vessel in the regicide encounter then killed his true form within his home dimension. So he is dead, for realzies this time
-
Its all about space magic !
-
I agree. They needed some logical way of having him weakened at the start
-
His army has been reduced with his sisters Savathun and Xivu Arath parting ways with their respective army/covenant. Should Oryx launch a similar offense against our star system as mentioned in the book of sorrows (namely asteroids), we'd never stand a chance. The Awoken seemed to have "played their part" by triggering Oryx into using his Dreadnaught's Taken powers; effectively "taking" the Awoken fleet and his own Hive army. Assumption: while rebuilding his army and conquering nearby worlds (such as Phobos), maybe he got overconfident and did not consider a single invading Guardian as much of a threat. That is until he got his claws busy with a Cabal ship that crashed into the Dreadnaught, followed by a Guardian setting up a landing zone nearby. tilde: Oryx got overconfident and underestimated what he's facing before it's too late.
-
Isnt this the same with every boss Atheon: Teleport us and shut off the power to the teleporters back Crota: Call in the oversoul immediately Skolas: um... Yep
-
2 RisposteOryx is a hive god.....sword logic still applies. The taken are his creation, not a race that he is apart of. It's like being a farmer, just because you can cultivate them it doesn't make you corn. You're just a corn god.
-
Sword Logic applies to all within a Hive realm. The Vex used it to gain a foothold in Crota's realm. By us defeating Crota, we became just as powerful as he was withing the Hive realm. So we do have the power of a god.

just another reason to make the vault of glass better

1 RispondiSomeone reply to this so i can read it later??
-
1 RispondiI'll lay this out in an easy to read and easy to type format. Let me know if I need to give more detail. Hive Realms AKA Throne Worlds -Each Hive deity has his own realm. This is a place of power and weakness. This is the only place in existence that a Hive god could be "killed" Crota & The Oversoul Realm - When you enter Crotas End, you run through the bottom of the Hellmouth and at the end is the entrance to Crotas realm. In his Throne World Crota was vulnerable and able to be killed by a sword. (This is doable because of sword logic which applies to throne worlds) Oryx & The Dreadnaught -Oryx made the Dreadnaught his throne world. It is only accessible through the Court of Oryx, which was created to practice sword logic and directly link his throne world to the Dreadnaught. This makes sense because Crota linked his throne world through the light bridge in The Hellmouth. Oryx Defeated -With all the info above, this means that by entering Oryx's Throne World, you have the ability to kill him just like Crota in his Oversoul World.
I hope this makes sense and I was able to help you get it. ;)
-
Sword Logic makes it possible.
-
5 RisposteAlso the fight is really stupid. What kind of god monster just slams on platforms and never directly attacks his opponents. The whole kings fall raid was extremely poorly planned from a fight standpoint, if focuses purely on mechanics and non-cheesability.

Modificato da iStranger: 10/22/2015 5:22:41 AMYou know if you read the grimoire more carefully you'd know that he can be brought back. His sisters are capable of reviving just like oryx did them after killing them in the throne world even tho he said they would die indefinitely he brought one after the other after slaughtering the acumen court
-
Sword logic is pointless to bring up. Kill everything and if you are killed, you aren't worthy to exist. Not really handy in explaining how we kill
-
Concentrate and ask again
-
You'd figure after a while oryx would come to his senses and realize ground pounding a plate isn't helping him and he should just ground pound us.
-
If your fireteam died during the raid you basically never did beat him. But video games spawn you at the last checkpoint so yah.
-
1 RispondiThere's a reason Bungie shows us Oryx floating to Saturn after completing King's Fall
-
Or he could've been like.... "Nah I'm not going to fight them", then go to another part of the dreadnaught. Or he could've clapped in the beginning to save himself the trouble.
-
It's the first game and we've already killed 2 major parts of the story
-
doxology cant happen if the worms arent being fed and those worms power the hive abilites and they feed off of light and he has created his throne world his physical body can be destroyed but will return until you kill him in his throne world which is created by the worms power so thats why you see light eater orges and orbs of replished light in the raid the orbs are being corrupted in the orge so they can create the corrupted light which the worms consume and oryx cant handle unstable corrupted light since we detonate them but if it were stable CL he would be able to handle them since the vessel of oryx will go around eating them healing oryx once you steal the brand
