Microsoft could win the console war overnight
i made a thread yesterday about sony getting exclusivity deals and outselling the xbox. It was a fun discussion but i still have a big lingering question.
Microsoft is worth like 100 billion ALOT more than Sony.
I simply don't understand why Bill Gates or someone, doesn't just step in and say "we need to win this war, lets just pile a few billion (chump change to them) and drive the playstation out of existence." Surely they want to win? Surely Bill Gates is pissed of that playstation are trumping his baby the xbox? Surely he is upset that the playstation fans keep dissing his xbox? So why don't they just pull their finger out and do it?
Keep in mind, i have had both playstation and xbox in the past, and i am looking at this purely objectively, like my enquiring mind is working overtime lol. The way i see it, microsoft could end it anytime they want but i cant work out why they just don't do it.

Plus you don't want that. The second that happens the xbox is the only system to buy, the price goes up to 1000 you either buy it or you don't play. No competition no innovation, no competition no low prices. Competition lowers prices

Competition is good. Look at Intel. They control like 80% of the market, because if they controlled any more it would be a monopoly, and that's illegal. I think we are safe to say that Bill Gates knows a thing or two about business, and he's making prudent decisions from his perspective (you know, the same perspective that made him the richest man on the planet). We're all just consumer pawns. Don't try to waste too much brain power on it.

They make a massive amount of money from Windows and enterprises, xbox one was advertised poorly to start with thats why lots went for ps4 you are right though they are capable of shelling loads of money into consoles if they wanted to.

Microsoft's Office Suite is probably worth more than their whole xbox department... Bill Gates is sitting on top of a mountain of cash fresh out of f*cks to give about a console war. He's to busy eradicating diseases around the world... If you like the xbox play it, if you like the ps4 play that. All this talk about console wars is wasted breath.

Bill has nothing to do with marketing Xbox or really Microsoft in general. He isn't even the CEO anymore, mainly just a shareholder. That's probably not relevant but oh well

Then that one company that "wins" will be broke for a long time, while the "loser" sits back on their throne of money. Flawed theory.

Sony is in a position where if they are not aggressive at getting advertising and content partners like Activision, then they will continue to see dwindling share price and profits. Microsoft just didn't try to outbid the crazy guy at the auction. If it gets too bad, Mr. Spencer may have his people touch back on all these exclusivity deals and outbid Sony. Real competition is on xbox, -blam!- your exclusive strikes and maps on psn.

1 RispondiYou don't understand the business world and it shows. The gaming consoles after all investments and marketing are not the most profitable sectors of the Sony or Microsoft corporations. This is partially due to high amounts of direct cost and cost allocations to these lines of products. Even though they do want to sell more it will probably never became the main sector for either company, and if it does then instead of trying "to win a console war" they will use the increase on profitability to bear the weight of other less profitable areas of business. Putting more indirect cost allocations to them over the other struggling businesses. And just an FYI bill gates does not "run the show" at Microsoft anymore.

They will, but not overnight. By Q2 of 2016 I think xbox will be back on top. They have A LOT of new IP's and exclusives coming out of all Genres now and in the next year. I play on both for the exclusives (halo for xbox, infamous for ps) so Im not an xbox fan, nor a ps fan, im a video game fan but I gotta say the xbox has a great lineup coming out between now and mid 2016 while ps has like 2 games I would even be interested in in the next year.
