Microsoft could win the console war overnight
i made a thread yesterday about sony getting exclusivity deals and outselling the xbox. It was a fun discussion but i still have a big lingering question.
Microsoft is worth like 100 billion ALOT more than Sony.
I simply don't understand why Bill Gates or someone, doesn't just step in and say "we need to win this war, lets just pile a few billion (chump change to them) and drive the playstation out of existence." Surely they want to win? Surely Bill Gates is pissed of that playstation are trumping his baby the xbox? Surely he is upset that the playstation fans keep dissing his xbox? So why don't they just pull their finger out and do it?
Keep in mind, i have had both playstation and xbox in the past, and i am looking at this purely objectively, like my enquiring mind is working overtime lol. The way i see it, microsoft could end it anytime they want but i cant work out why they just don't do it.

6 RisposteThe profits aren't there. What purpose would Microsoft have in buying Sony's gaming enterprise? Xbox is a small part of the MS business. They make their money in other areas, and I don't think the new CEO sees total of domination of the console market to be very important.

6 RisposteLol have been living under a rock the past year or 2?!? Bill Gates isn't even the chairman of Microsoft, he stepped down in February 2014. Plus Microsoft investors have been calling for the new CEO Satya Nadella to sell off the XBOX. Bill Gates even stated that he would support the new CEO in the sale of Xbox if that's the route the company wants to go. Plus Microsoft is inheriting a troubled phone division and the company still isn’t making money with its Surface tablets. Gotta remember Microsoft is a computing, not a gaming company! At the end of the day the investors want to get rid of Xbox and they usually get what they want!

Bill Gate has more things to worry about than Xbox. If it fails his is still rich and the company can move on.

There is a flaw with this "console war" BS & there always has been. I grew up in a modest income family, had our hard times, had our easier times, I always eventually had more than 1 console, and I still have most of them. I know I'm not the only one - there are many who have had, still have, or have always had each console. To keep it simpler, I have all 3 last gen, all 3 current gen. As far as last gen, early on Nintendo was dominating with the Wii, Xbox 360 was in second place, then when Sony eventually launched with the much more expensive console, they were in last place. This time around ,Sony is clearly in the lead, Xbox is still 2nd, and the Wii U is lagging very, VERY far behind...

Such a console would need the highest end GPUs available which can easily cost over $1500 (see top end nvidia graphics processors) and would need massive amounts of RAM and flash memory (for faster access times). Could Microsoft build a console to put all other consoles to shame? Yes hit it would cost as much as any highend gaming PC which is not the same audience as consoles (although some people play both). But Sony could just as easily make such a console as well. How many people will drop 3-5k for such a console? How would Microsoft or Sony make back their investment and crush the competition when this would clearly be a niche console market for ultra highend gamers. Bill Gates has not pulled the trigger on monopolizing the console market because he wants to make $$, and there is more money in selling tons of reasonably priced consoles than there is selling a ridculously overpriced console that few could afford or justify purchasing. And this doesn't even mean Microsoft makes money off the console sales themselves. Think xbox live subscriptions which is where they try and get your $$ and then AppStore purchases and streaming services and tv etc. the console is a way to add one more device to your home that provides a source for Microsoft to market to you and sell you stuff/subscriptions. 6 RisposteI don't think you understand how big sony is.... And how much money they get from patents alone. Let me bring something to your attention. Xbone has a blue ray player. Every blue ray player gives Sony money... Microsoft literally pays Sony for every Xbox made.
