Final Edit:
Originally this post was supposed to focus on how the community was preemptively defending the addition of microtransactions, but at almost 1,000 replies later, it's kind of mutated into something else. Also, I probably won't be responding to anything in this thread anymore. It's outlived its purpose, so just let it die.
Recent data mining has revealed some new items in the form of consumables that buff things like XP gain and drop rates. It is still speculation at this point, but the timing of these items along with a few other clues points to most of (if not all) these items being available for purchase at the Eververse trading company. Let me say it again; this is currently mere speculation, but fairly well informed speculation nonetheless.
AND PEOPLE ARE ALREADY DEFENDING IT
They are saying the benefits are small, don't really matter or give anyone any sort of an edge (already bullshit.) But seriously, though. In response to an argument I've already seen far too many times:
Pay-to-win does not actually mean pay to win. It means paying real money to get an advantage over those who chose not to. We payed $140 dollars for this game with the expectation of being put on a level playing field, fairly competing for in-game goods with the expectation that effort must be put in to get what we want out. In a game in which, from launch, it was made clear that while the game was free, players could (and would be encouraged to) exchange real money for in game goods, this system works and is perfectly acceptable. But this distinction must be made clearly and immediately. For Bungievision to now be blurring the lines between the two, while enjoying the benefits of both, is unacceptable.
By the way, notice how things have been going around here for the last few days? First, it was "I'm okay with emotes, but shaders should stay as things we earn."
Next, "I'm okay with cosmetic items, but nothing that will help in gameplay."
And now, it's "I'm okay with small beneficial items, but nothing too big." So then, what's next?
Sooner or later, this is happening. Take a stand.
And now, a message for Bungie:
Very soon, Destiny will be facing quite a bit of new competition from games like Fallout 4, Black Ops 3, etc. This is no time to be testing the loyalty of your community. There has already been a large outcry against this, and many players have already threatened to leave. Please, Bungie. Don't do this to yourselves, to destiny.
(I'm still not entirely convinced this isn't all just a plot by Activision to get people to jump ship to BO:3.)
And if any of this does come true, my fellow guardians, have fun on Bungievision's wild ride to an empty game.
Sorry if this all seemed a bit incohesive. I just wanted to get this all out there.
EDIT:
I think quite a few points being brought up can be explained by reading the following comment chain in this thread:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/162643536/0/0/1
View replies, read original comment first, then my rebuttal, and so on.
EDIT 2:
The drop-rate buff items have been denied on Twitter, but all points made here are still valid both on principal alone, and if/when this is considered in the future.
But this is good. We made noise, and forced Bungie's hand to address the issue. Maybe this community does still have influence after all?

1 RispondiThe forum can go completely upside down, but bungie will not acknowledge any fear, tears and sadness. Ya cheese me.

https://mobile.twitter.com/thislukesmith/status/654213224007503872 you might want to read this before freaking out

So them maxing a subclass or two affects people who have had it maxed for most of the games cycle. Yeah that makes sense not at all.

I really hope it doesn't happen. Been playing this game since beta, and if bungie does this I'm done.

"Recent data mining" These have been on the dB for months, it's only with the introduction of micro transactions is everyone up in arms about it. Don't take this as me defending micro transactions to put other players ahead by spending money, if those get sold for real money I'll probably quit, but everyone is seriously jumping to conclusions
-
Those consumables have been in the database since 2.0

People take video games waaaay too seriously. Get good at real life scrub.

24 RisposteRead one sentence what I gathered is your just another person, whining, pissing, moaning, bitching and crying that other people will get a chance to spend real money for minor minor MINOR shit. I have 3 maxed subclasses and all maxed weps - OH WHAT A FÙCKING HUGE MASSIVE UNFAIR ADVANTAGE IV BEEN GIVEN. I'm missing at least 1 thing of armor and the rocket launcher from the raid as well as a few exotics, I can get 3 of coins from Xur but GOD FORBID BUNGIE ALLOWS ME TO BUY, WITH REAL $$$ AN ITEM TO UP MY DROP RATE ON A LEGENDARY ITEM FROM THE RAID. get a grip baby, stop crying over shit that has absolutely ZERO impact on you or other players. Explain to me this, two 310s go into the raid, one has an item to buff their drop rate and gets and extra or just gets A drop, the other one doesn't. Who now has the UNFAIR advantage? neither of them do, one got +3 legendary marks or a replacement. there is this shit called money, it makes the world move and work, where you guys not wanting possible free DLC or were you still wanting to spend $25-$30 on it so you can just piss/moan and whine like little bitches about that shit to? If there is anything remotely pathetic about Destiny, it's they players. All we do is whine that shits not perfect, it doesn't fit the way we want it to be down to a T, we think Bungie is retarded and we like to cry about a game that we sink hours into regardless. Protip: Spend some cash to take advantage of this "UNFAIR SERVICE" or simple just shut your mouth because its YOUR CHOICE. If you like the game, support it, if you think its bullshit then shut your damn mouth and stop playing. Holy christ sometimes this community makes me sick
-
It's not that I'm defending it. I'm against it as well. It's just I'm not going to scream it's the end of the world if I see a rain cloud in the sky. Yes those items are in the inventory, but so are things like the three of coins and items like black wax idols and so on. They sound like items we have now but with a little twist of offering xp instead of glimmer just like my hunter cloak. (xp boost to weapons and vanguard rep) I'll say it again. I'm very against pay to win items being sold. I'm just waiting for them to actually announce it before I jump to conclusions. If and when they do. I'll be right beside you guys leaving this game behind.

Bought all the emotes here look...http://www.5z8.info/turkeyporn_mzhq

Before we start claiming that they're already doing this, wait until you have irrefutable proof that they are. All we have now is speculation, people putting on tin foil hats and making guesses, some educated, some not. Fact of the matter is, they have only sold emotes, and Luke, as well as the company in their 2013 statement, said that they wouldn't be selling in game advantages for real world currency. Whether or not this will hold true remains to be seen, but what we've got now is Luke Smith's word and that only emotes are being sold. IF they do start selling in game advantages, then by all means let's set these forums on fire with anger and fury, but for now, they're paying attention, and they know how the community feels about the "pay to win" or "pay to grind less" mentality. If they step out of line, we'll be the first to let them know it. Until then, everyone just needs to calm down and breathe lol

1 RispondiMore drama in the Destiny community. :-/

Worth a look.

Calm down.

All speculation(as of now) but doesn't mean we should ignore it. I am Anti-Microtranaction.

I support you and your message my friend. And I do so, because I care about Destiny, Bungie and the future of gaming. This is just the testing ground for what is to come. If we don't stop this now then you can bet your behind that most future games will have some sort of microtransaction that will lead into pay to win. Just look at Halo 5, it already comes with some kind of pay to win concept. Sure you can earn Req or whatever it is called but I'm sure it will be a long grind, so it will be easier to buy it. We're heading into a whole new generation of gaming and more and more people are being careless with what they buy, using the excuse "I enjoy this game so I'm going to spend money on it if I want to." Little do they understand that it is not about just this game alone, it is about all future games in general. I think we should all set a date to take a stand and not log into Destiny at all. Sure it might not seem like it matters but think about how low the numbers will for players logged in on that day. Silence speaks louder than words sometimes and if enough people care and are willing to take a stand just for one day, I am sure we will be heard. It would help if we could contact those who are a big influence in the Destiny community to support this date such as, Datto, Gothalion, TripleWreck, Mr. Fruit, Broman, Planet Destiny, Laced up Lauren, and everyone else out there. I believe if we can get their support then we can definetly make an impact.

The only way Bumgie could convince me that this is not a precursor to a "pay to win" scheme is if they allowed some way to buy silver with in game currency. That's what made the guild wars 2 cash shop acceptable to me. Yes, you can use real cash to buy these gems to spend on stuff, but you can also convert in game currency to gems as well. This told me that Arenanet wants to make more money to keep the game going but they're not willing to completely alienate a part of their player base to do so. This is the correct way to do a cash store. I happily bought gems with real money on several occasions even though I could've converted my in game gold for the same gems. I will never buy silver from bumgie in its current state.

2 RisposteIf destiny goes pay to win I'll just play fallout 4
-
4 RisposteShut up you are "Paying to Win" when you bought the taken king. Some folks cant afford it. Like you said pay to win means paying in order to get a advantage. Well look what happened to the people who cant afford the DLC when you bought TTK. They got left behind. Stop acting like a child..
-
I half expect Xur to have items on sell for silver. Even more curious if the new silver needle item will cost silver, that would be messed up.
-
HA... Bunjie just shot themselves in the foot with Three Little Words Real Money Transactions ... bwahahahahaha

If it affects my gameplay i.e. ammo, weapon parts and such that's it for me.
