THANK YOU Bungie for acknowledging our search.
Yesterday, those Guardians who had successfully foraged for crucial weapon fragments began the chase for the widely-anticipated Sleeper Simulant. The revelation of this new Quest was described as “awesome” by some. Others of you, who skipped meals and lost sleep on the hunt for the elusive Heavy Fusion Rifle, were not as pleased.
The response to Sleeper Simulant was humbling because we did not predict the community reaction. When we try new things, players often teach us a lesson about how to do it better, and this one has us thinking hard about how Quests communicate their availability. Our challenge is balancing between the secrecy that makes these hunts exciting, and transparency that could spoil the fun for the hunters. As long as the community is giving us feedback, we’ll keep seeking the ideal balance.
I still argue that 'time-gated content' is not the same thing as 'secrecy'.
Yo Bungie, OMNISniper/echolog here. I've been doing my best on reddit (/r/searchforthesleeper) to solve the mystery of the Sleeper Simulant, and today we made a BIG step in reaching that goal. I believe we have uncovered and deciphered the full quest-line for the Sleeper, as well as ALL of the related items to the quest. The cool thing is... we are only missing ONE item (and we have a good idea of where to find it).
First, huge credit to /u/DRayX17 on reddit for THIS POST which located all of the related items and objectives!
Below is what we believe to be the full quest-line to unlock the Sleeper Simulant, complete with links to items in the database and other data-mined information that all fits perfectly. Enjoy!
PRE-QUEST - This is the phase of collecting relics and 'restoring Banshee's memory' that has to happen in order to unlock the main quest.
1.) Collect 4 DVALIN fusion rifles (Dark Age Relics) and turn them into Banshee-44. These are always found in the same order:
- DVALIN-RAS8711-FR002
- DVALIN-RAS93-FR001
- DVALIN-RAS30-FR004
- DVALIN-RAS432-FR003,
2.) Collect IKELOS Fusion Core (Golden Age Relic). THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO FIND RIGHT NOW!
- The IKELOS Fusion Core requires several events to repair it. We will need to dismantle heavy weapons and take it around to Warsat events on various planets in order to repair and activate it.
- Turn the Completed IKELOS Fusion Core in to Banshee-44 to restore his memories and receive the following quest.
ACTUAL SLEEPER SIMULANT QUEST (name currently unknown)
1.) After having his memory restored Banshee gives us the quest, the first step of which is 'The First Firewall' mission (source here, credit to /u/FartSausage!). He also gives us the DVALIN Transponder (previously inside of the DVALIN relics) which will lead us to the source of the 'musical signal' mentioned by Banshee after turning the original relics in!
- The first step is to enter the mission and use the Transponder to find the source of the signal. We assume the source will be the 'Seraph Network Terminal' which was the result of cracking the various encoded messages on Rasputin's computer screens (source here, credit to /u/Browsing_From_Work).
- Once we find the source, we will be asked to enter four passcodes into the Transponder. These codes are 9, 8, 10, and 8 digits respectively. The nodes are very similar to the Rasputin symbol, and possibly represent the doors in his complex. Each node can be selected as 'open' or 'closed' and acts similar to a Binary code (1's and 0's).
- After cracking the code, we will unlock the 'Relic' version of the Sleeper Simulant itself!
2.) Upon bringing the Relic found in the previous step to Banshee-44, he will use his gunsmith skills to power it using the IKELOS Fusion Core and give us the Completed Sleeper Simulant, and then we can go shoot stuff!
Yes, the quest is only two steps. And that is important, because we already found the actual quest in the database! THIS is the actual in-game quest for the Sleeper Simulant. The reward for this quest is listed as 'Bungie Hidden Reward (3012398149)', which interestingly enough is one ONE DIGIT higher than Telesto, the only other Exotic Fusion Rifle in the game. :)
You might still be asking, "How do you know getting the Core will trigger the quest?"
Well... because of THIS IMAGE. That is the last page of the database when searching for 'Classified' items. You can see these items for yourself right here! Those items are not actually 'items' that you can find in the game. They are HIDDEN items. They represent quest trackers, which when collected, cause something to happen within the game. Each of the four DVALIN relics has one of these attached to it to tell the game which relic to drop next (which is why they always drop in the same order). Once you collect all 4 of those and the 5th IKELOS relic, they tell the game to unlock the Sleeper Simulant quest!
So that just leaves one thing... WHERE IS THE IKELOS FUSION CORE?
Well, let's take a look at it! The first 'node' on the item says this:
- MIDNIGHT EXIGENT: IKELOS subroutine
- HERCULES_11(GA=ISHTAR.ARCHIVES)
This points to two possible locations.
The first line references the IKELOS subroutine, which is not seen anywhere else in the game or the grimoire (outside of the Sleeper Simulant itself). Ikelos, in Greek Mythology, is one of the Oneiroi, the Dreamers. He is the son of Nyx (The Night) and Erebus (The Darkness). He is also the brother (or maybe son?) of Hypnos (The Sleeper). Interesting, another name for Ikelos is Phobetor. Sound familiar? The first lead we have on where to find this item is PHOBOS, the moon of Mars. This could potentially be either the Fear's Embrace or The Coming War missions. I've run through them both a few times today with friends looking for secrets, and they seem to be full of them. There are several doors that never open during the Phobos missions (particularly the door in the Oryx boss fight room) and there are lots of scannable items as well. That being said, I have no idea why a Rasputin fusion core would be in a Cabal base on Phobos... but it's worth a shot!
The second line references the Ishtar Archives, as well as the 11th Labor of Hercules. More Greek Mythology! The 11th labor is Hercules' task to steal the Golden Apples of the Hesperides. The story goes that he asks Atlas to get the apples for him, and in the meantime he has to hold up the Earth. When Atlas comes back with the Apples, Hercules has to trick Atlas into holding the Earth up while he adjusts his shoulderpads, at which point he runs off with the apples himself. Hercules is a jerk! Anyway, this line also says the GA (Golden Apple, or perhaps Golden Age Relic?) is in the Ishtar Archives. Definitely a strong candidate for the Fusion Core's location.
So yeah, there it is! We just need to find this fusion core and the Sleeper Simulant could be ours. BUNGIE PLS, GIVE ISHTAR ARCHIVES/COMING WAR DAILY HEROICS.
WE DID IT REDDI- I mean... Bungie.net :)
TL;DR Destiny uses a series of invisible quest-tracking items that tell the game what to do next. Each DVALIN relic has one of these attached, and each one tells the game to drop the next one (which is why they always drop in the same order and you can't get two at the same time). The IKALOS Fusion Core has one of these tracker items attached to it as well, which indicates that it is the 5th and final relic needed to kick off the much anticipated quest for the Sleeper Simulant!
Also keep this in mind... Bungie told the Basketball Court guys they were wasting their time after ONE DAY. They haven't told us that, which I think means THIS GUN IS AVAILABLE NOW. EDIT: LOL SO MUCH FOR THAT IDEA.
2 RisposteOkay soo does anyone remember like a week or 2 weeks ago when "The Promethean Code" was the daily heroic mission? Well if you do remember at the end of the mission it had a different ending than normal and it actually took you down a elevated platform diagonally, just before you put your ghost in cayde is speaking and then when you initiate the elevator it interupts Cayde as he speaks and says he has tried for years to break rasputins firewall or whatever to get in that room that you go down to. Maybe we have to wait until this is the daily heroic mission again??? What do you think

1 RispondiIs there a way to track how many fusion rifles we have turned in?

7 RisposteI've only turned in 2 or 3 fusion rifles to the gunsmith. I haven't had one drop in about 2 weeks... what am I even supposed to do? Do we have a guide out of where they drop or something? The first 2 I had drop on the scourge of winter back when 3 of coins farming was in full swing. They dropped the same day.
-
2 RisposteSo I did all the steps and charged or reassembled the relic. Turned it into banshee and nothing happened. Do I have to wait a week till arms day or something???
-
Even if it wasn't exact, the fact that you got so close to describing the quest in full is amazing. Hats off to you and all involved.
