As a Christian dad myself, if I had never played this game and only ever seen gameplay and not known the core of the game, yes I would think it was evil myself. If you have an idea of what's going on, it is not. You are a guardian of the light fighting evil. Fighting back the darkness to regain the light. No, we are not throwing Bibles and spreading the Gospel but it is no were near satanic. I think if he knew what you are actually doing in the game it might seem less evil to him. As far as the OPs statement this seems more along the lines of you might be playing to much and he thinks it's taking over your life. Everything has to be in moderation. No matter how much we love or care about something or someone everything needs moderation. You need a set schedule. I'm a father of a 13 year old and a 6 year old. Both of my boys love games but important real life responsibilities come first. Homework, grades, chores ect. I let my boys play games a hour or 2 each night after all their important real life responsibilities are taken care of. They are not going to be playing games if their grades drop or getting in trouble at school ect. There has to be compromise in every family. Another poster was upset calling this form of parenting manipulation. To some extent it can be but if you don't let your kids do the things that they love within reason that's going to cause trouble. You can't block them from everything they feel pationate about. I'm not talking about chores or homework. I'm talking about respect and understanding. Now if my kid wanted to smoke weed and is pationate about that, not gonna happen. If he wants to do drugs when he's an adult out of my house thats his prerogative. In my house its not gonna happen. There are certain boundaries that cant be crossed and others that make no since to put boundries there in the first place. If a father blatantly says "this games satanic your not playing it " and does not fully understand what they are doing or is not educated on the subject, they are being ignorant. Knowledge is power. I'm not going to keep my kid from doing something without a real reason. Example. "Your grades have fell and until you can bring your math grade up there will be no game time " not " this is evil you can't play it" and not having any idea what I'm banning my child from. Weed is illegal it can get you arrested and envoled with people that can get you or others hurt. Its not just that its illegal even if it was legal I would still have a problem until he was the proper age to consume. Just like alcohol. Just like porn is not for childeren drugs and alcohol are not either. These things are for adults. A video game is so much different dependent on its contents. We are not talking about M rated GTA with hookers and murder. We are talking about guardians protecting the good and fighting evil! A lot of parents would say it doesn't matter, what I say goes. Just because they are a kid doesn't make them a slave or teach them to think for themselves. You have to teach them the difference between right and wrong. They have to make mistakes and learn from them along the way. Actions without reasons is just a way to make your kid angry and another reason for them to act out. Parents need to be educated on what their children are doing and what they are passionate about. I don't want my kids to be robots I want them to challange me and I want them to ask for a reason. This mind set of "because I said so" is not a good way of thinking. This teaches children to be pushovers and not to think for themselves. They also need to learn authority, not to say that this is not important. We are not their boss at work or the police or even their teacher. It is our job to be a different kind of teacher, a differnt kind of police, a differnt kind of boss, a parent! Teachers teach academics, police enforce the laws and employers keep us doing our jobs. Parents, they are the ones to educate our children on society and respect and good and evil and right and wrong. We are their moral guardians. We are responsible for molding them into responsible, passionate, respectful, caring, meaningful adults to carry the torch into the future. We are responsible for who they become. It starts from day one, from simple things such as the games they play to the way they treat others to the way they handle themselves in difficult situations. Our children should always wonder "how would my mom or dad handle this situation" if we can't be the defining person in their lives we have failed as parents. Love, teach and respect your children.
