ONLY 40 FRAGMENTS NEEDED FOR TOUCH OF MALACE (MAYBE LESS)
I just realized this when i went to orbit after searching for the rest of the calcified fragments and saw i had something waiting for me in the tower. it was the next part of the touch of malice quest (kill the enemy in the black garden) i went back to see how much fragments i had and its 41. i was farming since 27 so it could have easily unlocked it at 30 and not known. just a heads up is all :) :)

Once you get his health to 20% the wizzard will spawn.. just kill it. Then you can go vack to the tower and collect your Touch of malice. Ohk!!!!!

You need 45. You can get the black garden part with less, but not the final part. You need 45 for the final part.

Different steps of the quest unlock at different amounts of fragments. The last being at 45.

I had 44, got the 45th and Eris gave me the final part of the quest, you need 45

Black garden part of quest unlocks at 30 fragments, that isn't last step of quest though. You still need 45 fragments to unlock last step of quest which is to go back to fears embrace and kill a wizard.
