Dear Bungie, having played Destiny for quite some time (and being in the top 1% for suicides), there are a lot of weird balancing choices considering autorifles.
We will see a buff soon, but overall, there is something that simply doesn't make sense for me:
Something like the Necrochasm has a ridiculously high RoF, ridiculously low damage per bullet and would be considered an SMG in pretty much every other FPS I ever played.
Since the beginning of playing Destiny, I did not understand the design choice to consider a Monte Carlo the same type of weapon as a Suros Regime.
When the Necrochasm came out, I understood it even less.
I also do not believe that it makes balancing easier on Bungie's end, if absolutely everything is considered an Autorifle.
It's therefore a logical proposal, to finally make the distinction between an SMG, a bullet hose with bad range and low DMG per bullet, and an Autorifle, which shoots slower, deals more dmg per bullet and has remarkably more range than an SMG.

Great idea ! But ppl barely even use sidearms so I doubt ppl wanna use SMG's
-
1 RispondiI like this idea but SMGs would probly suck if theyre like the high rof autos we have now... you know, the crappy autos no one wants
-
Mute me
-
3 RisposteI hope they do this too, this could be a Special Weapon varient
-
Shameless necro bump.
-
1 RispondiGood point. Make a slower rof higher impact higher range class autorifles like Suros and a make a night rof lower impact lower range smh with faster handling.
-
1 Rispondiyour main issues is you fail to understand the terminology. both an "assault rifle" and an "smg" would both fall into the term bungie uses, "auto rifle." technically both the pulse rifles and scout rifles could fall under the term "assault rifle" bungie tried to simplify things by making category based on how the weapons fire, auto rifles are full auto. pulse rifles are burst fire, scout rifles are single shot.
-
We already have weapons that fit the SMG archetype. Unwilling Soul, Dr. Nope, Atheon's Epilogue, etc.
-
They still fall under the term "Automatic Rifle".
-
2 RisposteEh. There's enough weapon classes now. Add more and balance will begin to be more of a issue. Plus the bullet hose ARs are kinda the smg of destiny.
-
That's what those bullet hose auto rifles are supposed to replicate...done very poorly tbh.
-
They should give +2 agility for being lightweight
-
I love smgs in Borderlands, if it was like that I would love it.
-
3 RisposteI always felt, despite being a large gun, Dr. Nope should have been an SMG. That thing spits out its insides faster than a drunk on new years.
-
2 RisposteBullet hoses are smgs. Full RoF no impact
-
1 RispondiLast word... Hold the trigger... There you go.
-
An SMG is a machine gun that fires pistol ammunition. Since we are never aware of the ammo used in this game, the distinction between Auto rifle and SMG is mostly irrelevant. There are assault rifles that fire as fast as SMG's in real life, they just fire rifle rounds instead of pistol rounds. I get that you are referring to distinctions in other games, but I don't know that it is really necessary. If you moved the high RoF/low impact archetype to a new weapon type, then auto rifles become a lot less varied and less interesting to make choices for.

1 RispondiModificato da Rarre28: 8/27/2015 5:18:26 PMbungie makes more smgs killerschaf is happy equips one does crucible rushes first person he sees gets shotgun rinse and repeat.
-
Nah they generalise weapon types, technically an SMG is an auto rifle
-
Modificato da REXEL: 8/27/2015 5:41:53 PMHardlight is essentially an smg, unfortunately it's horrendous currently.
-
5 RisposteModificato da l MGW l: 8/27/2015 5:46:39 PMOnly if it's a special weapon, like the sidearm. I actually really like that idea with the presence of NLB and Universal Remote offering some really different, but still balanced, load outs. EDIT: just for clarification I was only using the sidearm as an example. It's obvious primary counterpart being a hand cannon (in appearance, not stats), whereas the smg would be the special weapon counterpart to high RoF, low impact auto rifles (would have a smaller mag size due to being a smaller weapon in general).
-
Yes, yes, and more yes.
-
I'd like an smg
-
Have you used TLW? All kidding aside I'm all for more weapons if they fill a role
-
4 RisposteWhy? When like you say we already have guns that fit this archetype You also have Hardlight if you want an exotic
-
17 RisposteNo reason to implement this. Like you said, there already are weapons that fit the "SMG" style of weapon, and there would be no way to differentiate archetypes if the RPM can't be any slower because they'll be too similar to auto rifles. It doesn't make sense from a gameplay perspective, but at least you're thinking. Scrap this idea though, its not worth the development time.
