A valid reason to why I'm quitting this game.

Unlike 99% of other forum goers, I'm not quitting the game because "omg nerf thorn", "omg they needed gjally", "omg Xur sold xxx". Main reason I'm quitting is that I can't bear the redundancy of this game anymore. The whole point of games like Destiny is to value progression. You get better weapons, better armour and you slowly become more powerful mostly based on how much time and effort you dedicate. Destiny, on the other hand, has no progression. You reset every DLC. Bungie wants to maximise DLC sales by making all your previous playing hours absolutely useless through making your weapons, materials and armour redundant. By doing this, people who have just bought the game and casual players get a nice head start. An example of this: Veterans play VoG, sink hundreds of hours into acquiring level 30 and ascendant materials, whilst levelling up exotics. TDB comes out. Christmas buyer won't buy TDB when he's stuck on level 26 failing VoG. Low and behold, hand holding bungie is here to save the day and fill their pockets. Let's make ascendant materials useless, let's increase the damage and make vanilla weapons redundant, let's sell VoG equivalent gear at the vendors, let's introduce this new Radiant material and these exotic shards which nobody has any of. Now everyone is on even terms and said Christmas noob will be like.. "Omg I can buy the DLC and be just as strong as these fools that have played since release!" This is what pisses me off. I hope it pisses all of you off that I can come back to this game in year 10 and probably be just as powerful and developed as someone who has played from Day 1. I can delete my characters, give me 100 hours and I will be just as powerful as any of you that have played for 1000+. That is shit game design and it's greedy as -blam!-. Edit: I thought there would be at least some agreement to my reason. Sadly, the autism contained in the comments only affirms my strong belief that it is silly sheep that are responsible for shit game releases, cut content and ridiculous DLC releases.

  • I agree with what you are saying. What people don't understand is that every new DLC shouldn't replace the current one. DLC should add a few things, not change the game every time. That is what expansions are for, usually once a year with a bunch of content and maybe a new game changer. That is just my two cents.

The ONLY valid reason not to play a game is because it isn't fun, if you aren't having fun in destiny fine, but don't then come to the forums as if you're on some crusade to drag as many people with you with flawed logic. Call bungie greedy as much as you want, it isn't a charity it's a business. They aren't going to alienate new players from buying the game just so you can get a weird power trip of having higher status than these new players because you played the game more. Influxes of new players are GOOD for destiny, good for the community. If you didn't enjoy grinding to level 30, that's on you. If the only reason you played destiny is because you felt an obligation to max everything, that's on YOU. It isn't Bungie's job to make you feel special, it's their job to create a good game and cultivate a large and engaged community, it's up to you how you engage with that content. If you don't enjoy playing the game, don't, leave, you won't be missed. Clearly this isn't the game for you, that's fine, but this post is toxic and pointless hate spreading, and I'm tired of it.

      • Why do quitters feel the need to explain why? Me, I would just stop playing. I don't think playing Gears over Destiny means I quit Destiny. In fact, it would be the complete opposite. Destiny couldn't keep me from buying Gears.

        • You know is really freaking offensive on this post? Your comparison that people who in this thread that have voiced a different opinion other than your own have autism. That's incredibly -blam!-ing rude, and I really don't appreciate it. Plus you call people who disagree with you sheep, but if the vast majority of people agreed with you, they would be sheep by the definition of it. If this is the kind of attitude you have, and the kind offensive crap you throw around than good riddance. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

        • I get your point, but why do you care what other players get? People that didn't grind VoG don't have the guns (or 'trophies' now) and you can brag if you want about year 1 weapons and exotics that didn't get brought forward, that only some people even have.

        • Insulting people for having different opinions doesn't make them any less valid. You feel that your time was wasted. However most people don't feel like their time was wasted, and are welcoming the changes.

        • You don't need a reason, valid or otherwise, to quit a game. It's your time, your money... You aren't obligated to a video game. On the other hand, I don't understand the need anybody has to announce their intention of quitting. Unhappy? Fine. Just GO already!

I just want your opinion, but do you feel a "reset" is a progression of sorts. In your second paragraph, you referenced getting better armor and weapons. Yes, with ttk legendaries won't be ascended. So you get new yr2 legendaries. That IS progressing to a better weapon. Does that make sense? As far as someone coming in years later. This is true for a lot of games. I can buy bf4 after a year with all 5 dlcs and play the in dlc 5 events and get dlc 5 weapons. This isn't new. I think it's unreasonable to ask someone coming in year 10 (as was your example) and ask them to start as a day one player and redo 9 years of gaming. Come on? Even you wouldn't agree someone should have to put in (let's say 1000 hours a year - as was also your example - you referenced someone putting in 100 hrs vs 1000) 9000 hours of game play before being able to compete in year 10.

          • Actually I agree in many ways. I am not quitting but I don't know that I will be buying Destiny 2 if it is the same old shit. I mean why continue when everything you do is made worthless? All the previous content before TTK is worthless now, why play it? I am helping players finish their moments of triumph in beating Skolas, & doing my nightfalls in hopes of getting that damn Hawkmoon that just won't drop but mostly I have been playing world of tanks on XBone, that has been fun, every battle is similar but completely different.

          • I don't really care what other people get in the game, you know? I play to have fun and chill with the friends I've made because of this game. I mean hell, I made friends in Australia that I talk with basically every day now. I "met" their wives and brothers and sh*t! That's freaking awesome. That happened because Destiny. What I don't care about is some dumbass in-game "status" crybaby peepants argument/complaint based on someone else's experience in the game. It's not "valid" or "invalid". It's f*cking infantile. Grow up.

          • That's kind of the point... Mmo's have life cycles. On top of that certain weapons for each life cycle. Do you really want to automatically have weapons ready to kill everything right away that TTK has to offer? Not me, I miss the feeling of first starting destiny, the road to 20 that is. Having a green weapon drop and it being better than my white at the time. I'm glad that I'll get to feel that again.
