Huge misconception going on. Need clarification Bungie!
Exotic weapons. Do they or do they not upgrade to year two? I understand what a version 2.0 is. I get that it's a newer version with a different look and some new stats/perks. What we didn't hear anything about though is how to upgrade an exotic we have right now to the same status as year two weapons.
It was stated in the stream that infusion is only for year 2 weapons. So we can't use other guns to upgrade old exotics. So do we need to have a new one drop for us at a higher attack rating? Will they drop at a higher attack rating? Is there some sort of etheric light to upgrade them?
Would love a dev response!

Edit 2: A lot of people don't understand what the question is here. I'm not wondering how exotics get upgraded to a 2.0 version of said exotic. Bungie was pretty clear on how that works. The question is, how does exotic x get upgraded from 160 damage to 280 damage but still stay exotic x instead of turning into exotic xv2.0.
Edit 3: So it's come to my attention that there are screen caps of LBN at 160 attack value while not leveled up. This could mean that fully upgraded it might be the same as a v2.0 exotic which would be great. But then again they showed the Necrochasm and it's fully upgraded as soon as you apply the crux and it was a lower attack value. So it still remains unseen as to what will happen with our beloved exotics.
Edit 4: So Bungie tweeted that new questions would be answered tomorrow in the update. Hopefully this is one of those questions!
Edit 5: It's official. Not all exotics will be able to be upgraded. R.I.P.

But only some will get "Year 2 versions" with new perks, like that dope ass looking black and red Suros Regime and Light Beyond Nemesis.

They were pretty clear about how exotics were going to work. The only exotics you'll be able to upgrade to the new atk value are the ones stated as 2.0. They're phasing some of the older exotics out and clearly said that they were only bringing some of the exotic weapons and armor up to the year 2 values.

8 RisposteAs far as I can make up from the stream, the v1 exotics will remain at 160 (their current max) and will only allow you to get the new v2 edition of the same exotic straight away if you actually have (or ever had) the v1 item. So they won't be upgradable themselves, but will allow you to fast-forward to a shiny new version of (some of) those weapons/gear items.

2 RisposteWhat I took from that is only the old exotics which will have a new year 2 version will be upgradable. Old exotics will still be useful for most activities, just not the end game content (may still be but underpowered compared to year 2 version) I don't see that we will have a year 1 suros maxed plus a year 2 suros, I think year 2 will be superior to year 1 (when comparing like for like)

All year two legendarys and exotics can be buffed now, so you are attatched to year one exotics you jus need to infuse them. More than likely the wepons that are getting nerfed are the ones that arent being brought foreword (Thorne, gorillahorne, etc.).

9 RisposteThey said quite clearly that any Year 1 exotic you had acquired would be available at the Kiosks to be purchased as Year 2 versions... For 125 marks... Only problem is, not every Year 1 has a Year 2 equivalent... At least not yet.

I'm pretty sure that exotics can get higher damage, or you can atleast get the higher damage version through the collection. Some weapons were re-built so that they have improvements, like suros now has different perks. It would make no sense to not allow upgrades since they will drop at the TTK base damage.

I think a lot of people didn't get what they say, from what I understand you will have all your exotics and you can use them, but theres a few exotics that they upgraded for year 2(suros regime and light beyond nemesis are a few of them), and if you already have an exortic year one, you can get the new and improve ttk exotic, and the reason we see some of the year one exotics stats are below average its because its on a different value metric, that's what I think I heard they say. But people lets not freak out until we have more info.

EXACTLY QUESTION IVE BEEN WANTKNG TO KNOW ALL DAY. I dont think we can upgrade them though, which is so annoying, like theyre exotics, give us diversity. There's not many of them..

Old exotics are year one and can't be upgraded. SOME year 1 exotics can be upgraded into year 2. From what I saw upgrading exotics will require legendary marks (correct me if I'm wrong.) Year 2 exotics may still need to be infused to increase their damage to max. For the second part: Exotic x cannot go from 160 to 280 without first turning into exotic x v2.0 . That means that if there isn't a v2.0 exotic recipe for a certain exotic then the max that exotic can be is 160.

If you payed attention in the stream the old light beyond nemesis was at 160 with defense upgrade nodes. Which hypothetically puts them at year 2 values when upgraded fully. The point of year 2 versions are the perk re works. This lets bungie improve some exotics that didn't get as much love.

What I understood from the stream was. Our current exotics will stay the same. How ever we can get an updated version of some of them after the update. So you will have your original Suros with it's stats and upgrade tree it currently has. But you can get the "Suros 2.0" with the new upgrade tree. At least that how I understand it. Doesn't seem we can upgrade our current one though. They will just remain the same.
