I think I understand why bungie decided that xûr will sell the almighty Gjallarhorn
You know how people always complain at LFG that the requirements are something like "must be level 34. Fully upgraded gally" and more. Well, now nobody will be kicked for not having a gun- which is a stupid reason to be kicked in the first place.
Bungie is starting to deal with the unbalance-ness of this gun.
The other reason is that the nerf, and now everyone has it- it can be, it [u][i]will be[/i][/u] overshadowed by new guns from TTK.
So what are your thoughts?
I personally have gotten 6 gjallarhorns in all my 500 hours (I think) of playtime. I dismanteled 4, using only 1, and the other sits in my vault- unupgraded.

In my opinion the only reason GHorn is getting a nerf is so then people who have it will want to replace it with that heavy fusion rifle

2 RisposteI read in an article that the new 'ghorn' type weapon or the hardest hitting launcher will be attained not fron the rng system after raids and night falls but a quest which can only be completed by players with true skill so you can actually earn one and essentially deserve it

2 RisposteHas nothing to do with the lfg reasoning they gave. If ice breaker wasnt getting a nerf then that reason would be more believable, but both guns are getting a nerf because their damage output is too high. Less damage output=longer play time.

1 RispondiIt's actually a marketing ploy - now everyone has something to do until TTK - people are guaranteed to be logged in more frequently than normal. That way the hype continues right into the new DLC and everyone will buy it because they are emotionally satisfied with Destiny

im sure the player numbers dropped drastically since theres nothing left to do in this game , especuially after that announcement that everything we earned year 1 will be useless, so they pushed the XUR-GHORN panic button which they saved for the worst case scenario

More people using it means more data - so they can look into how badly they need to nerf it in the next patch 2. Get people playing - a highly sought after gun which is now available to buy will only increase people playing 3. There will be a new carrot to chase - let everyone have a bite and taste what its like to play with the best gun in the game, then when TTK releases there will be a stronger weapon which everyone will strive for 4. Build hype for TTK

Because it's just an exotic gun like any other. So xur can sell it like he can any other exotic. (Aside from raid guns and bounty guns of course)

They sold it so that anyone unlucky enough not to have it yet can enjoy it in its prime for a month before they nerf it into the ground

It's a very long fall to the ground if you miss, that sudden stop is going to hurt. If something does more damage than Ghorn, then it'll be the new requirement. If nothing does more damage than Ghorn after the nerf, then, if anything, it'll be MORE mandatory (for some people) to have a full team of ghorns. Either way, the "must have this" elitists aren't going to change, they're only going to get worse.

1 RispondiI don't believe it will be overshadowed with ttk. I believe there will be a heavy that rivals it but from what deej said they don't want to have a go to weapon for almost every situation. They want to try and make us pick and choose. Having an op heavy in ttk will just recreate the current situation

I feel like in order for lfg to be inclusive everyone had to have the gun, it's amazing and very powerful. I also feel like they're giving everyone the great year 1 guns which will be decent in TTK so we don't feel completely underpowered in the early days after TTK drops

4 RisposteModificato da Seraph: 8/16/2015 3:57:13 PMMy take on it: Before Xur sold Gjalarhorn , the Reef and the Tower were filled with lv.34 Guardians, it goes without saying that only the most dedicated, hardcore Destiny players were still playing Destiny. This weekend I've been seeing a lot more lv.20 - lv.32 Guardians in the social spaces and on Patrol. I think it was done to bring back a lot of lapsed players back to Destiny who gave up Destiny due to its frustrating levelling system and frustrating RNG and since the Gjalarhorn is going to be nerfed soon Bungie did not see much harm in giving it away knowing TTK is less than a month away ( and the 2.0 patch is only weeks away ).

I kind a see it as a slap in the face honestly. They sell then give you enough time max it out then hit it with the nerf bat in several weeks when the expansion comes out.

You are actually quite correct. This is explained in the patch notes for the upcoming weapon balancing update. If you skip right to the end to the entry for Gjallahorn you will see that the 'nerf' is a response to Bungies disappointment in observing in the lfg forums how many players were being excluded from fireteams because they didn't have a Gjally. It was only a matter of time before this elitist snobbery led to a Gjallahorn fire sale. Although I was expecting it to be the first Friday after TTK came out. As a day 1 player who's lucky enough to be in a clan, but unlucky enough not to be able to get the big G until last Friday, I can attest to the fact that there not a single game mode in Destiny that needs every fireteam member to be wielding Gjallahorn in order to complete it. Except maybe Skolas, but I haven't had time to do that one yet, so I can't speak from experience. Tactics. Teamwork. Communication. Way more essential than one weapon in a game that has dozens.
