So much whining over "vault space", "vault space" I need more vault space!
No, no you don't. You need to learn to let things go. Take it from some guy who started playing games on 170kb floppy disks (if you punched a hole in them that made them 340kb! Yes!)
It's all about inventory management.
Two key steps:
1) If you don't already have 3 characters, make the extra characters!
Let's say you just play as 1 character, that gives you 10 primary weapon slots, 10 special weapon slots, 10 heavy weapon slots and 36 weapon slots in the Vault. You can have 66 weapons in your inventory at any one time.
I could see where that would get a little tight. So make 2 new characters. Now you can carry around 30 primary weapons, 30 special weapons, 30 heavy weapons and 36 in the vault. That's 126 weapons, almost DOUBLE what you have with only one character.
2) Get an inventory manager app. There are several good ones, you can even do it live through this very site. There is also a Chrome plugin (and phone app) called "The Destiny Item Manager". With that installed, all you have to have is 1 open slot free in your vault and you can change complete weapon sets.
Now then, let's talk about inventory space....
Did you realize there are only 10 weapon types in the game? 4 Primary, 4 Special, 2 Heavy. That's it. On top of that, there are only 30 exotic weapons in the game. I know, I know, it seems like there's more, but there's not. Really. In fact, out of the 30, there are 3 that are impossible to get (Fate of All Fools, Jade Rabbit and 347 Vesta Dynasty), so that's only 27 exotics on the PSN version. The Xbox version is missing another 3 so that platform only has 24.
All exotics are the same, so if you're lugging around 3 Gjallarhorns ("one for each character!") just stop it. Just stop. You only need 1 of each exotic (and with some exotics "need" is generous. COUGH NLB COUGH) Shard those extras and get ride of them. Use an inventory app to switch the guns between characters.
So if you were lucky and skillful enough to get every exotic in the game, that would be 27 Vault slots and now you have 9 open slots for Legendaries PLUS 90 more slots on the 3 characters.
There are 10 classes of guns in Destiny and each class has one of 4 attributes, Kinectic, Solar, Arc or Void. If you were to keep the best of each gun with each attribute, that's 40 guns. That leaves you 59 open slots left over for duplicates or "I just like this" or "I wanna keep the Strangers rifle."
I'd argue that if you have a decent Solar, Arc or Void gun, you don't really need the kinetic version. Black Hammer with Arc means you don't really need any other kinetic sniper rifle, it's just taking up space, get rid of it. That reduces the number of guns you actually could keep in theory from 40 to 30 (10 classes x each of the 3 elemental types) and bumps up the available slots from 59 to 69.
Similarly, you don't need to keep a gun if you already have an exotic equivalent. When I got my Icebreaker I immediately sharded my other solar sniper rifle, because in a situation where I needed a solar sniper, it didn't make sense to use anything other than Icebreaker. It DOES make sense to have legendary duplicates of your favorite exotic class since you can only have one exotic equipped at a time. If you're forced to switch from, say, Thorn to Icebreaker but you really like your hand cannons, then you should have a legendary to swap to.
You may not even need to keep one elemental of each gun. I find that I need a close up option and a long range option. That means Solar, Arc, Void Shotguns, Sniper Rifles and Rocket Launchers (for bosses.) That's 9 guns total. I've even changed my mind on the Arc Shotgun because that's for Captains and the Vestian does a better job on them. If there are void or solar sidearms in TTK then that may obviate the need for shotguns entirely (good idea because they're nerfed.)
So if you have 3 characters you can have:
All 27 (24) exotic weapons.
3 elemental shotguns.
3 elemental sniper rifles
3 elemental rocket launchers
The very best weapon of the other 7 weapon classes (Assault Rifles, Pulse Rifles, Hand Cannons, Scout Rifles, Sidearms, Fusion Rifles, Machine Guns)
That leaves 83 open slots for other weapons (86 on Xbox One).
If you wanted to be hardcore and keep each of the 3 elemental weapons on all 10 categories then it looks like this:
27 (24) exotic weapons
30 legendary weapons
69 (72 XBO) open slots for duplicates, etc.
Now, now, I'm already hearing cries of "But, but, IB/Crota/Atheon weapons..."
Yes, yes... Those are nice too (and what all those open slots are for), but see what I've said before... If you already have "the best" solar auto rifle, then you don't need another one. Slap an etheric light on that Abyss Defiant and get rid of any other solar auto rifle you have sitting collecting dust. Plus, you need to consider if you even need to keep it so long as you have some other auto rifle that may be better. As a class, ARs are less than useful. Keeping multiples of them doesn't make sense.
If you have the Word of Crota then you don't really need any other Legendary Hand Cannon. Get rid of them. Hunger of Crota means you don't really need any other legendary rocket launcher, unless you want to keep a void one around just in case.

1 RispondiI applaud the time you put into this post. But I'm not sure you are grasping situational game play. There are very different weapon types, stats, and rolls that you use depending on pvp or pve, and even more difference depending on the tactics you use in certain situations. You can't just shard every solar sniper if you have ice breaker. If it is solar burn and you need a different exotic equipped, you need another solar sniper. You can't just shard every other rocket launcher if you have hunger. First, different burns. Second, pvp rocket launchers are much different than pve rocket launchers. Hunger works for pvp, but it is a pve launcher. There are much better launcher rolls for pvp (proximity, tracking, speed reload, max velocity). Scrapping all auto rifles is just a bad idea. As is evidenced by the upcoming buff. You never know what weapon will become relevant again. So at the least, you should have one burn damage type for each type of weapon. That is a significant chunk of space right there. On top of that, remember that pvp is very different. I hardly ever use the same weapons in pvp that I do in pve. And if you understand pvp, neither do you. There are no burns. So stats and rolls matter more. You are going to roll a very different sniper for pvp (hidden hand, unflinching, speed reload, etc.), than you will in pve (max ammo, shoot loot, etc.). Same with all other weapons. And the type of encounter you are in, and the tactics required for it, changes the stats you want on the weapon type you want to use. That almost doubles the weapons in your inventory. Then add in the weapons you just like, or want to collect. This more than fills up your inventory, with the current weapons available. As things are now, people that play all content, both pve and pvp, do not have enough vault space. Finally, you mentioned all the new weapons coming out in TTK. With too little vault space now, what will it look like when TTK comes out? Vault space is an issue. Plain and simple. It's incredible to me that bungie hasn't fixed this yet.

Looks like you don't play much pvp. The perks you want in pvp have pretty little to do with what you do in PvE. Oh, and there's Iron Banner/Osiris (where level counts) vs other types of pvp (where heck, even the stranger's rifle is useful). Also, not all of us play for max damage all the time. Heck, I know quite well what my best weapons for my style of play are. Doesn't mean I want to play with them *all the time*. Not surprisingly, PoE quickly showed that keeping old weapons around was a good idea, between the ability to get everything to 365 (hello again, fatebringer and vex mythoclast), and also that some stuff that you had not used before was suddenly good. Were you around when they buffed shotguns ? Suddenly, they went from "pretty much useless" to "swordbreaker is OP against minotaurs"... I could wax on for ages... 1/ bungie has the CODE to handle pages in inventory menus. They do so for roster lists. 2/ Apps like Destiny Item Manager are not large stuff. Having a few things to order items is not hard. Heck, just keep the vault sorted, or give me some filtering toggles, like legendary/exotic/primary/secondary/heavy. The only hard part is reformating the DB for more space (and they already did it ONCE so they know how to do it). 3/ I'm a programmer. I'm pretty sure I could code something half decent for that in a day or so... what's bungie's excuse for not giving us VASTLY increased inventory space ?

5 RisposteModificato da Krobolus: 7/23/2015 11:50:59 AMThere is only "ONE" thing to do in this game and that is to get armor and weapons There is no Crafting There is no Trading There is no currency in the game that allows you to buy any armor or weapon you want whenever you want Stated by the Developers "Events,Gear and Weapons all have a Season in the game , once something is Gone in the game it is Gone forever and future players will never be able to do those events or acquire those weapons or armies or shaders" <------ so your theory of just delete everything and Keep the absolute Basics removes what the developers have. Said of "People will see your Weapons and Gear and know what you went throught to Aquire them " And lastly in a MMO game you will Always have gear and Weapon rebalancing , so what might seem like Junk today could end up being worth its weight in gold tommorrow <---- but you deleted these items you grinded 1500 hours aquiring for the pathetic reason of Lack of Vault space . Anyone who believes that Destiny doesn't have enough resources to have multiple inventory pages .....I have a bridge I'm looking to sell ......

TL;DR but all the points made in the first few paragraphs were well thought out. GG

8 RisposteWhy would you post something like that? Why don't you ask, like the majority of us, the game to evolve and give what the player, THE CUSTOMER wants: more vault space to collect stuff. Maybe you're not as hardcore as some other players. Maybe you don't know that there are unpopular Pulse Rifles out there that with the right roll are way better than The Messenger, but I don't want my Messenger thrown away because I worked hard to get it in the Lighthouse. The Jewel of Osiris isn't great but no way I'd throw that away as I could have a lot of fun using it in a Airborne+Void burn event, or just as a collectable. Same for the my Solar Six Dreg Price. I'd use Vex instead in a solar burn situation, but, would you discard a Solar hand cannon you earned killing Skolas? I could give so so many more examples. For machine guns, situational snipers and shotguns; and even Armor. Your post won't help us. Unfortunately you won't delete it as you're probably doing it for the sake of clicks. But trust me, from a hardcore player who loves Destiny: we need more vault space urgently, before TTK drops. ------- This, coming from a gamer that had to press play on a DataCorder to load games and hope for the best. Way before 5 1/4 Floppy Disks.

2 RisposteBlack hammer arc, no need for the kinetic sniper????????? So many things wrong with this sentence
-
4 RisposteCant wait for the 2.0 nerf. It's gonna hit guys like you real hard. When the few guns you've kept suck and all the ones you deleted have become the most sought after I will laugh, a lot.
good day
-
2 Risposte1. just because youve been playing games for a really long time, doesnt mean you have a stronger opinion of what is or isnt a good game. 2. the more options someone has in a video game, the happier they are
-
1 RispondiYou thought too much about something that doesn't require much thinking about...
-
Wtf is a jade rabbit?
-
7 RisposteI read up until the part when you said if we have a good elemental sniper, to just go ahead and dismantle our kinetic ones. Special weapons and heavy weapons don't do kinetic damage.
-
1 RispondiLost all respect for your knowledge of the game when you stated the black hammer was arc dmg and that you didn't need a kinetic dmg sniper. All black hammers are solar and all deal kinetic dmg along with solar. Just stop and proof read before posting such dribble.

Not having three ghorns is fail on every level I hated switching that thing around for Crota. Not anymore!!! Also have 3 icebreakers as well and 3 hawkmoon. I've actually had three of every exotic in game Except pocket infinity. I really should clean out my vault lol
-
NLB is a must have.
-
That makes sense, but people collect weapons and cloaks/marks/bonds. Plus you would need at least 2 vaults spaces empty if you wanted to switch weapons between characters.
-
2 RisposteSome people are just collectors, my friend. It's a personal playstyle preference. There's nothing wrong with a player who says "I want one of each gun in the game," just like there's nothing wrong with a player who says "I only want to play as an Exo" or "I don't ever play Crucible." You wouldn't tell somebody, "Stop whining about Thorn in the Crucible. Just do what I do and don't play PvP." So why tell people who like collecting guns to stop? Your advice is pretty good as a way of dealing with how the vault is currently set up, but in my personal opinion it's just a little unfair for one player to tell other players what they should and shouldn't care about in the game.

As a collector I can't let things go easily. All I can do is pray for more vault space.
-
You are missing the fact that different weapons are good for different things. And I don't mean pulse rifle vs hand cannon. For example there are essentially three types of hand cannon: low impact, medium impact, high impact. All three types have their use. Sane with other weapons, a low impact/high rate of fire AR plays completely different from a high impact/low rate of fire AR. There is a lot more variety to weapons than you are describing.

3 RisposteModificato da grimsbyrob: 7/23/2015 12:07:33 PMA few days ago I put all my exotics into the vault and divided the rest of my weapons between the characters. All rockets went to one. All machine guns on another. All snipers on one, all shotties on one, so one and so forth. Once your weapons are clustered together it makes it easier to spot the crap/ unused ones. Any excess weapons that couldn't fit on a character stayed in the vault. Crap and unused legendary weapons got deleted. When they were gone, the other legendary weapons got sorted out from the vault as well. Once all weapons were screened I used the app to put one of each element shotgun/sniper etc... Onto each character. One of each primary weapon type so on and so forth. My hoarding was reduced a lot and I still have all of the best weapons left over.
-
Dont forget the Postmaster
-
My vault: armor slot-empty.....weapon slot: mix of legend and exotics but not full....general slot: handful of materials but not full... so i still have plenty of vault space, people just need to know what they really want to keep and not want
-
LOL this post is full of much bad advice that it hurts to read. Here's a better solution: play the way you want to, keep whatever weapons you want, duplicates included! If you run out of vault space, carefully look over your weapons and see if there's anything you can bear to part with, perhaps something that is redundant. You might be surprised at the things you're willing to dismantle. Ignore the OP's flawed and overly verbose "advice" though.
-
Thank you someone who understands. You should keep a legendary of each type tho.
-
9 RisposteLol, so much dumb. If you have icebreaker you want me to shard my solar snipers? Lmfao. So in a solar burn map I decide I want to switch to gjallarhorn, but I still want to snipe. Guess I'm sol. Shard all launchers if you've got a hunger of Crota? Dumb. Hezen is better sometimes, hunger has tracking, exodus plan for PvP and different versions for burns. Multiple shotguns for different burns and PvE vs PvP. And now we can talk about how Bungie comes in to play. Pulse rifles used to be junk, and I dismantled many that are now powerful thanks to their flip flopping on nerfs and buffs. The lesson learned from this day one player is never dismantle any legendary. I dismantled some old auto rifles, and guess what is getting a buff in patch 2.0? Listen to this guy if you want to regret your gaming, or if you just play a small section of this game.
-
Thank you. You made me realize how much of a hoarder i am. I dismantled alot of weapon and kept mostly the VoG weapons with The crotas end weapons i have a ton of space now. Thank you.
