I did mine back before I entered a raid. Got it the second month after release, and it's been a favorite ever since. Only had a hunter back then. So I only relied on pre-nerf rare fusion rifle kills, and the occasional heavy.... Oh the struggle... (Did one on my girls account a couple months back and it was done in two sessions... Nothing like the early months of destiny)

The only thing I had was Atheon's actually, no Void Special or Heavy on a Hunter when High Impact Autos trumped bullet hoses in TTK, Range, and ease of use. Now? Now because of the 1.1.1 patch the damage scaling for higher impact autos is an inverse relation to TTK but with greater ease of use and Range. A fair trade considering 2.0's making their TTK within the viable .7-.9s range (.77s for Necrocasm crit only down to .954s with a High Impact Auto without Focus Fire, with Focus Fire you'd be better off just using it in PvE where while it decreases your DPS you get better ammo economy and range).

all i had was corrective measure so i would sadly camp heavy spawn and then go on a rampage after i stole heavy, i wouldnt get any kills and i would run and hide from others back in the newbie days

Thorn was one of my first exotics. All I had was my warlock and Final Boss with void burn. I suck sniping in PVP so it took a while.

Signed. While i was doing the thorn bounty, i didnt level up my defender class so it was hard. I used a party crasher and chain of orbiks. I had to atleast go on multiple streaks before dying but after countless matches, i finished it.
