Ok now please read the context for the poll fist before voting. I realise it will be too late for some already but anyway heres the context...
Ok Im dissatisfied with the current state of Destiny and the decisions bungie is making going forward and I question the value for money I'm going to be getting on the new content. Im not sure if ESO is a game that will replace my interest in online social gaming but it looks to be the closest alternative at the moment on PS4 so I've chosen that to contrast value for money.
So for an online social gaming experience I could get
1. The Taken King DLC for (gulp!) NZ$72.95 in which there is no resale value at all and I would be waiting till September. Granted I can keep playing Destiny as it is till then but Ive pretty much run out of things worth doing. Also no reviews to help make a purchase decision
or
2. Elder Scrolls Online for NZ$79.80 which is the physical copy so depending on when I resell it may get about NZ$40 for it plus the deal I'm looking at comes with a ESO T Shirt and Explorers pack. Not a huge bonus but I guess a little added value. I have a decent number of reviews I can go through to work out whether its a game I would enjoy and my general feeling is I would but I don't know for sure till you get into it but then resale to get a portion back is always an option.
So based on value for money which one should I buy?
Ive also included another basically so people who think both are not worth it can say so. So...
3. Do not buy either
You can obviously tell I've probably already made up my mind about which I'm going to buy but I just wanted to do this more as an exercise in what might influence people in their decision processes when they think about what they are going to buy and the value they are getting to them from that purchase.
This raises obvious questions about the value we are getting from the taken king dlc and that they have been vague in addressing this issue with the community. Alot feel that the first 2 dlc were not great value and they were cheaper than this next one so based on that we really have no confidence that TTK is going to be any better in terms of value compared to the rather large number of options due to hit end of 2015. It seems to me that all the uproar, division and debate about the nerfs and buffs is distracting us from continuing to press them about the value of TTK when compared to the other full games about to release or currently available we could be purchasing instead for about the same price. Sure they will probably keep ignoring it but this is also to keep us mindful of it as an issue for the community as a whole. It affects us all. Whether we are happy with the value or not it looks like the player base is about to take a big hit so its important that pricing is seen as fair to minimise the loss. There is no problem with them making money. We hope that they do and want it for the success and future of the franchise but where it is perceived as excessive and corporate greed it is only going to hurt the future of the game.
Anyway if you have read all this and not yet voted, 'Well Done"! You are awesome :) Hope you get where I'm coming from and that I've been clear in my reasoning for starting a poll on this.
To sum up the poll is really about "Perceived Value" and questioning if you were me what would you do given the scenario.
Edit: ESO arrived today so im excited to get into it. Not that it was the point of this scenario but I would like to thank eveyone who gave their feedback on ESO. I didnt expect it to be so genuinely positive and it certainly reinforced the decision to buy it. It goes to show that if you treat your customers well they will respect and support you for it. Bungie in contrast again has another vague weekly update addressing none of the issues. I must say im happy to be done with destiny. I wont have time for both anyway which is why i didnt buy eso earlier. If their were a winner for peoples views on value of content it clearly goes to ESO...
Edit 2 Well Ive spent a bit of time on eso now so thought I would share my impressions. Some things I really like about it. Other things not so much.
First what I like is the story. Not sure if its that great a story but the fact it actually has something is such a plus however destiny set the bar so low with this i was always going to be happy with any semi interesting story. Second I love the freedom of such a huge immersive world with so much to discover and do. Third i love the character development and the diversity of choice in how you can build it.
Unfortunately there is serious downsides to this game which are actually making me reconsider destiny. First inventory management. Im finding for every half hour questing or exploring i then have to spend about double on managing my inventory. This just feels like a chore. I thought vault space in destiny was bad but damn eso is crazy time consuming and restrictive. I kinda get why its restrictive in size to force specialisation and working with others in guilds but this leads to the next problem. Apart from my first day i can not find people to group up with in game. People just seem to want to play solo. Im even in 2 guilds and no one really interacts. Maybe It gets better and I havent found the right people in the game yet but these 2 things are making me see the good side to the simple gameplay of destiny. At least people on destiny are casual and friendly on the most part and i dont spend most of my time managing my vault in destiny at least im doing something slightly less mindless and enjoyable and actually able to group up and enjoy it, even with the frustrations, with actual talking people. If thats the norm for mmos like eso then its not for me. Maybe im just playing it wrong or havent found the right guild but im not sure im going to play it much longer to find out. I have enjoyed it as a single player game but i stopped playing skyrim because of the loot management early on and its looking this way with eso. I need to spend that time organising my life, not a life in an imaginary world. Why are these developers creating such time consuming games and gaming systems? They need to get more responsible in their game design and simplify things for us so that we can play the game for the enjoyment of it. Cut the frustrating bs. We have enough of that in our daily lives. Games are meant to be a temporary escape from that. So while eso might have more content and be better value its just too big a time sink and most adult gamers dont need that. We need games respectful of our time.
Sorry for the rant but i just needed to get that out there. Between clash of clans, destiny and now eso im just feed up with these addictive time sink games. Btw still probably not going to buy ttk based on bungie milking our wallets and over extending our play time with repetitious upgrade and reward systems. Just saying destinys vault isnt looking so bad considering esos inventory management. Also the simplicity of destiny is also looking more appealing not to mention it being more social in my experience even without in game matchmaking. Esos in game matchmaking m8ght aswell not exist cause my attempts to joing a group were a waste of time.

1 RispondiJust got a really good staff! Very rare drop!!
-
1 RispondiESO is underwhelming. I have had it since launch and got bored before lvl 10. Destiny has issues but I am not bored while playing. Frustrated but not bored!
-
1 RispondiIt's sad when a Destiny product gets outvoted on the destiny app itself. 😂

11 RisposteModificato da TruthHurts: 7/22/2015 2:06:55 AMLol if you spend any more money on destiny you need to check yourself out for brain damage.

1 RispondiNever played a game like ESO before in my life, been playing it for a month, easily better than Destiny, shop around though I bought ESO for $68 in AUS and TTK is $69.95, so ESO was actually slightly cheaper, no f--king way TTK is worth $70, the base game wasn't even worth that LOL
-
9 RisposteESO is completely awesome. you can really get sucked into that world and all the lore is actually in the -blam!-ing game! imagine that.
-
7 RisposteEso bro,I took a leap of faith and went all out with it,by far the best game iv played..it's great fun with friends, the community are amazing and the game play is insane, The PvP beats any PvP iv played on a console and is so addictive, The thing I'd say to you is,if you buy the doc for destiny where will it stop? 2 years down the line your look back and you would of spend 100s on content you could probably smash out in a month, eso iv been playing pretty hard core for a month and havnt repeated anything yet,I'm vet 5 and still finding New areas, let alone the New dlc will be out in a few months and that looks epic

1 RispondiI would suggest ESO. With the upcoming weapon patch Bungie is reinforcing their philosophy of invalidating the players time and effort. No reason to stick around with a game that's going to nerf weapons because they're popular.
-
1 RispondiI would go with elder scrolls online because at least you get a great game where the developers actually do care and listen to what the fans say and want to know how to make the game better. You will gat to play a game where you can have a connection to each character as you level up gat new quests and is more than just go here shoot that or do this. Destiny is a good shooter game but they in my opinion completely failed to make us care about or characters with only 3 classes and that really just do not have any individual things about them that make them unique.

1 Rispondi1. Sell Destiny 2. Buy Witcher 3 (or Dark Souls) 3. ??? 4. Profit!
-
3 RisposteIf you buy ESO, get it for PC. If not, just save your money.
-
2 RisposteWhy not both?
-
1 RispondiThe Elder Scrolls online
-
1 RispondiIt really depends where your friends are and which game you think you would enjoy more. If you prefer more Fast Paced gameplay, Destiny. If you want to play an MMORPG on console, ESO.
-
4 RisposteESO actually has a cool main storyline that lasts a while and an open world. They don't lie about those two things to sucker you in then try to sell you what you were supposed to get from the start for an extra 40$. If you've played destiny since launch, you should see the pattern. Only deception and disappointment lies ahead with Bungie. Most pathetic developers on the market IMO
-
2 Rispostebattlefront I'm waiting for it its the only next generation fps with splitscreen of course idk if that interests you
-
Up to you how you wanna spend your money, I can't tell you what's better and I have a serious problem with people taking opinion as law.
-
1 RispondiElite edition of Pong > TTK at this point. Go with any option that isn't TTK.
-
Elder scrolls online has a lot of side quests but it still comes down to grinding difficult quests to try and level up your character only fun thing is bosses and forging was butt -blam!-ed I would rather get ttk but with the upcoming patches ruining the game just get something else
-
-
2 RisposteBuy Jordan's
-
2 RisposteBuy whatever you think will bring you the most enjoyment.
-
4 RisposteESO, it will keep you busy 'till the other games come out, like fallout 4
-
1 RispondiI'd say watch some videos or even walkthroughs of ESO to get your feet wet. I haven't bothered with it since early on in the PC release. Good luck.

ESO actually has a story a ton of content on release for consoles. Go for it. Don't buy the Taken Wallet, you're getting fleeced.
