... nerfs like the Black Hammer whiff hard because it's more than a nerf to the gun, it's a nerf of fun, it's a nerf of the feeling of having powerful gear, and it's a nerf in the confidence that what you own will stay dependable and good.
When I first saw the BH drop for a friend I thought 'meh'. But I remember the first time I saw somebody use it to shred a spider tank and I realised that what appeared to be an average sniper had a very kick ass use. So I grinded to get one. I was approaching 100 Crota kills by the time it dropped. I had hardly been so excited. I hurriedly levelled it up and became a tank killing machine. Eventually 2 more BHs dropped for me and all of my characters had one stowed away for the right encounter. I even ran PoE and ascended all of them. Like Bungie wanted to, I invested in my gear, and my gear had my 'story'.
But now the BH is about to become a regular sniper, below average even. According to Bungie they didn't anticipate people would use it against bosses so effectively (which means they're either lying or they have their dumb stat maxed because how could you not anticipate its effectiveness against bosses!?). How is that OP? I don't see Sepiks or Sekrion on these forums calling for a BH nerf, who is it hurting?
This means that bosses will take longer to kill, yay. But it also means that my feeling of investment in those weapons is now nerfed. It also means that every weapon I really enjoy in this game is not safe, my investment in my existing gear is nerfed. It means if I find a really sweet, kickass weapon in the future, I shouldn't get excited and invested, I should expect that it too can be altered and reduced to below average. It's not exciting to play a game where you feel like a total badass space adventurer, knowing that at any moment the stuff that makes you feel like you're powerful and having fun can be nerfed.
Bungie doesn't seem to have a roadmap for this game. I dismantled my VoG gear because of the limited vault space and their stats were 'frozen in time' but Bungie went back on that. So I went and got them back. Then I went and sunk etheric light into the BH and now Bungie is going to change that. Bungie lack direction, the lack commitment. What gear should I level and ascend? What will become useless in the future and what gear will be good when Bungie decides you should be playing a certain way?
These nerfs aren't just to weapons. They're nerfing fun, they're nerfing the feeling of investment, they're nerfing the feeling of being powerful, they're nerfing my excitement about finding new and more powerful guns, but most of all they're nerfing my confidence in them as a studio.
I really feel like Bungie constantly do and say little toxic things that drive people away. The seem intent on making hard to be their fan. I've had about as much as I can take, my tipping point was the puzzlingly high $70 price for TTK in Australia - hey Bungie, while you've got the nerf bat out, why don't you nerf the price for your overseas fans? I'm not leaving, I'll still play pre-TTK content with my few friends who still play because it's a decent social experience. But my confidence in Bungie and Destiny has been nerfed, hard.

Absolutely feel the same.

Wait...... Now cuz you have to run around and pick up ammo or use a synth its crap? You can pump every round without taking your eye off the scope to reload. Seriously? Man the -blam!- up
-
22 RisposteThis gun will still be able to lay 18 shots into a boss without needing to reload. It just no longer has infinite ammo. Does nobody understand why having a legendary infinite ammo sniper that allowed people to just sit in the corner and cheese a boss might be a problem for bungie for the long term replay ability of the game? How long can that be fun for? Also with it in its current state there was no way for them to ever make any legendary or exotic sniper that is better. The problem was giving it to us in the first place.

Thanks for saying this.

Very well put. Slow clap for me as well.!!

Slow Clap...... Bump

Seems to me bungie is doing a whole lot of reacting instead of being proactive. That is how the upcoming nerf looks to me. Its almost like they don't know how they want their game to be but they are nerfing/buffing based on player actions.
-
2 RispostePretty much any gun worth a damn just got neutered. When something else becomes deemed as "OP" that too will be neutered.

2 RisposteModificato da El_Chunky: 7/21/2015 4:59:20 PMThe way this is going, bungie will not be happy until all the weapons are exactly the same, and that's gonna kill the game. The solution is to buff other weapons instead of nerfing the players favorites. If I sell 10 different flavors of ice creams and only 3 of them are selling good because those are the clients favorites, I'm not gonna make those 3 flavors less appealing to start selling my other flavors; what I'm gonna do is improve the taste of the other flavors to make them as appealing as the ones that are selling good. Jesus Bungie make this right please, you still have time to prevent that really bad update to go live

2 RisposteAgree on the need for a roadmap. Weapon balancing is a must, but making certain weapons go from great to awful just takes the fun out it, as you said. Hopefully TTK will bring fresh life to this game, but at the moment I've lost interest, as Bungie consistently undercuts the investment of its players, limiting your ability to store gear and seasonally replacing the best gear with gear you can buy in the tower. It's the lame duck effect, there's no reason to prepare for the next expansion as you won't be able to take much with you, new players will probably catch up almost immediately. It's possible to reach max level in about a day or two, variety is the only thing sustaining the grind, and now that seems pointless.

21 RisposteBungie nerfing black hammer is justified. Everytime you come across the spider tank you pull out black hammer and crit spam from the back of the map. Same thing with the tank in cerverus vae. It makes for extremely dull game play. Everybody always quotes bungie saying "no single weapon should be the answer for every engagement". The thorn and last word get hit and everyone is happy. They go after your op pve weapons and you all complain. Tldr: you can't please everyone.

Well said OP!! That's the term I have felt, but not put those words to it: Nerfing the fun. Is the Gally over powered? Absolutely, but that is what makes the search, the wait, and the grind worth it... Was I excluded from groups due to my lack of having it? Yep, but I was never kicked as I didn't ask to join those groups where it was asked for and yet had ALWAYS managed to find another group where not having it was ok...and I've only had it for two months. The only reason I've played crucible, other than in the beginning when I learned that it was far too laggy for my enjoyment, was for the exotic bounties with the last being Invective. I was kinda looking forward to it as I had Dr Thorn in hand... Well I sucked in PvP with the thorn... Got killed with it enough but found Red Death an awesome weapon to counter (and win!) with... So, my point here: the nerf is needed why?? Anywho, my point, to agree with your point: am I overpowered in PvE with my current weapon selection?? Yes, yes, and yes, but that made the grind to get them and all the grinding to level them up worth the effort. Knowing I have the right tools for the task at hand to be able to open a can of whoop a$$ whenever I want to is just plain FUN!! ...and I fail to understand how making repetitive stuff take longer is supposed to be fun... That said, I still enjoy the game, the gameplay, and will continue to play until it turns sour. Update 2.0 may be that sour apple, but I am hopeful it will not. As for TTK, I'll wait until the early adopters pass judgement and go from there...

The funny thing about people arguing for the nerf saying black hammer was an exotic because it was destroying bosses too fast doesn't even make sense. Why would they lower valus ta'aurics health and nerf the psion flayers health if the black hammer was destroying their bosses too quick? I'm sorry but no one wants to sit through 40 minute dragon strikes to try and get hopscotch pilgrim because everyone is waiting 8 seconds a pop to use their icebreaker on the fallen walker. Get it together Bungie

6 RisposteThis goes back to what I once said. Taking back to the streaming bungie had for the HoW, it was an episode where deej, professorbromam and, someone else his name escapes me, but besides the point, they could not finished PoE I think they got stock in round 4, I told all my friends, we as players have better odds to complete the PoE, we're committed, and know our gear, now that been said, just like I said my team kill urox at the second attempt, gjally, hammers, vision of confluence, fatebringers, and the ice breaker, were among the the weapons we used, and now most of the mighty weapons I just mentioned are not better than rare gear, I'd pathetic that bungie as a gaming entity did not took in consideration that we ad players always are going to be looking for ways of completing raids, missions, strikes as easy and quick as possible, this weapons gave us all that, gjally with the overpowering wolf pack rounds was what we need it in a clutch situation, ice breaker we the ability of regenerate ammo was the,to go gun in the case you ran outvof bullets, the back hammer with white nail perk was perfect for bosses you could land 15+ hits on a boss depending on how good you were with snipers, now all that is going to be taken away and for what, to anger players and make them leave, I feel like bungie has turn it's back to not only beta, day one and later players with this and now all our hard work to level up my armor, and weapons was for nothing, new players will be at the same light level ad me in about a week when I had to to put an incredible amount of play time, now I try to have a good game with friends and all it seems to be is uncertainty of what would be when our gear is worthless.
-
I don't think they should have touched IceBreaker. -.- There were literally NO complaints about it. The ammo was fair in the crucible. I mean, come on, there were more times where I needed ammo over having too much. They overdid it.
-
All we wanted was the thorn and last word fixed, give them an inch and they take a mile
-
2 RisposteGreat post. The only weapon the community wanted nerfed was Thorn and TLW:Extremely on point weapons with 0% chance of failure. Bungie lost their King Midas touch. Halo was near a masterpiece with Bungie as its developers, now we get a half ass story dlc with a price tag and a new set of rules stating how Bungie wants you to play their game. ALL weapons should be OP, give us gamers choices.
-
Bungie makes us play the game the way they want us to play it rpg my arse
-
Christ, it's not like special ammo doesn't drop all the time. Well written post though
-
To the people agreeing with the mass nerfing I ask wot is the point striving for something in the game if they are just gonna keep -blam!-ing with the weapons in pve aswell people agree with bungies comment about they way people are playing the game ie sniping from the back or working from that doorway on the left well of course people are gonna do that for 2 reasons 1st reason it's -blam!-ing efficient why would you want something to take longer than it needs to And 2nd reason everyone knows the enemy layout cause it's always the same so why change the weapons why not have a rotation in how the enemy fights
-
BH is still the only sniper in the game that can fire 18 shots without stopping, I don't see the problem.
-
So many well written posts in this thread. Too bad bungie likely doesn't read them (or give a rats ass if they did). Bottom line: This game is about having fun, that's why people bought it. If they make it less so, people won't. Great thinking Bungie.
