... nerfs like the Black Hammer whiff hard because it's more than a nerf to the gun, it's a nerf of fun, it's a nerf of the feeling of having powerful gear, and it's a nerf in the confidence that what you own will stay dependable and good.
When I first saw the BH drop for a friend I thought 'meh'. But I remember the first time I saw somebody use it to shred a spider tank and I realised that what appeared to be an average sniper had a very kick ass use. So I grinded to get one. I was approaching 100 Crota kills by the time it dropped. I had hardly been so excited. I hurriedly levelled it up and became a tank killing machine. Eventually 2 more BHs dropped for me and all of my characters had one stowed away for the right encounter. I even ran PoE and ascended all of them. Like Bungie wanted to, I invested in my gear, and my gear had my 'story'.
But now the BH is about to become a regular sniper, below average even. According to Bungie they didn't anticipate people would use it against bosses so effectively (which means they're either lying or they have their dumb stat maxed because how could you not anticipate its effectiveness against bosses!?). How is that OP? I don't see Sepiks or Sekrion on these forums calling for a BH nerf, who is it hurting?
This means that bosses will take longer to kill, yay. But it also means that my feeling of investment in those weapons is now nerfed. It also means that every weapon I really enjoy in this game is not safe, my investment in my existing gear is nerfed. It means if I find a really sweet, kickass weapon in the future, I shouldn't get excited and invested, I should expect that it too can be altered and reduced to below average. It's not exciting to play a game where you feel like a total badass space adventurer, knowing that at any moment the stuff that makes you feel like you're powerful and having fun can be nerfed.
Bungie doesn't seem to have a roadmap for this game. I dismantled my VoG gear because of the limited vault space and their stats were 'frozen in time' but Bungie went back on that. So I went and got them back. Then I went and sunk etheric light into the BH and now Bungie is going to change that. Bungie lack direction, the lack commitment. What gear should I level and ascend? What will become useless in the future and what gear will be good when Bungie decides you should be playing a certain way?
These nerfs aren't just to weapons. They're nerfing fun, they're nerfing the feeling of investment, they're nerfing the feeling of being powerful, they're nerfing my excitement about finding new and more powerful guns, but most of all they're nerfing my confidence in them as a studio.
I really feel like Bungie constantly do and say little toxic things that drive people away. The seem intent on making hard to be their fan. I've had about as much as I can take, my tipping point was the puzzlingly high $70 price for TTK in Australia - hey Bungie, while you've got the nerf bat out, why don't you nerf the price for your overseas fans? I'm not leaving, I'll still play pre-TTK content with my few friends who still play because it's a decent social experience. But my confidence in Bungie and Destiny has been nerfed, hard.

I really hope bungie is listening, because at the moment it seems like they are intent on -blam!-ing up their game. To an extent I agree that some weapons need to be needed. But only where these guns effect PvP. It becomes tideous when every man and his dog is using the same damn hand cannon.... But PvE stats should be left well alone.

18 or so shots without having to move for more ammo is not even close to below average, there will still be no other sniper that can do that........the Australian price tag is a legitimate gripe though, that does seem high

Ya bungie the hell

7 RisposteThey should make heavy synths have a 45 minute cooldown. That would also make boss encounters longer.

Wow!!! Epic post my friend. The use of the word nerf back at Bungie was perfect. I totally agree with you!
-
Bump. Great post.

well, damn

And this is why Destiny is a constantly evolving game ... Looks like you've got it all figured out.
-
5 RisposteLooks like you might actually have to use other guns in the new expansion. You know? The new expansion that is adding a ton of new content including new weapons and armor and even maybe some new weapon types? New exotics and perks and enemies to fight?

I agree with the majority of this. Particularly the nerf to BH making no sense. Once that goes through, it will become a high impact sniper with no real practical application. The ONLY thing that makes BH awesome is the fact that it essentially has unlimited ammo. With that being removed, I'd rather use an LDR or another sniper with similar stats. But like you said, why do it to begin with? Where was the harm in it? People don't normally use BH in PvP and they certainly aren't using it for the White Nail perk. So why take that away? I still have confidence in Bungie, and I still enjoy this game (although lately I've been finding difficulty in playing it since I've got everything I want from it). I will say that I'm not as big a fan of this game as I was 9 months ago, though. I wonder where I'll be in another year? If I do decide to take the plunge in the future and quit, rest assured b.net, that I won't return to shit post on the forums.

8 RisposteTo everyone hating on this guy....stop. Most of you either didn't read the whole post or are trolling. He's not bitching about the nerf in the "oh there goes my crutch" aspect. It's all about His personal experience with this game. Which is what Bungie advertised as one thing that would make this game stand out from the others. Play it your way has become...play it your way as long as it matches our ever changing direction. And quit telling people that are upset about the nerfs to grow up. How about all the whiners grow up, put some time in and get good friends. Then it won't matter who has what and you'll just enjoy Your game experience.

13 RisposteI had this discussion with someone as well, they were for the BH nerf. I said they are ruining the gun, it won't be as fun, and there will be better legendary snipers now. What's the point? The big thing that upsets me is BUNGIE DON'T TEASE US WITH THAT KIND OF WEAPON/PERK, THEN TAKE IT AWAY. That's what pisses me off. They can't give me this BS line about not knowing how powerful it would be, BS. If the BH never had that perk to start, then we never would have missed it, it would have been just a, meh, sniper from the raid. Someone had a link to a Forbes article, it had an interview with another developer. They said the solutions are to NEVER NERF the power players have. If the gun is overpowered, you bump up the others a bit, but never make players feel like they are being PUNISHED/NERFED/OR HANDICAPPED, NEVER EVER DO THAT. It ruins the game experience. Are you listening Bungie? Are you really listening to us? Don't take power away, make other adjustments.

Good post. Good thoughts in it. My thoughts on seeing the black hammer initially were the same as yours. Meh, 3 rounds and you have to land 3 precision to get the bonus. It will have 18 rounds without any armor/ammo buffs. With armor/ammo buffs you should get a decent supply of rounds and probably have to use an ammo pack to take out a boss. It will be different, but i don't think it will be too difficult a transition. They put a soft cap on a very strong perk. Compared to what they have done to other weapons i'm ok with this "nerf". I would like to be able to use the d-pad to use ammo synths rather than having to go into a menu to do it. I think it would be a better use of resources vs. dancing, waving, and sitting down. Those need to be nerfed. Talk about useless.

Bungie nerfed the size of my wallet

I agree. Making things take longer doesn't make them harder it makes them less fun. Trying to kill the spider tanks without it takes forever and it's nothing but a bullet sponge in the first place. It's not about balance because it's easy to miss a crit and have to start all over. It's about bungie forcing us to buy taken king cuz old weapons will suck.

Modificato da Coyote_x_Starrk: 7/22/2015 11:10:51 AMYeah sorry its called balance people. All games do this. Just because the overpowered weapons you people have been using to melt bosses have finally been reeled in doesn't mean Bungie is trying to ruin the game. They are simply trying to return everything to the way they intended it to be played. They never meant us to be able to ace the endgame content with that much ease.
