Ultimately, the reason why people are so against it is that bosses in Destiny aren't interesting or fun in any way, shape, or form. They're just another headache to have to run up against. Every single one of them is just a giant bullet sponge with wave after wave of trash mobs thrown at you to make the fight more hectic. There's no interesting mechanics, you're just unloading into it until it dies either way. And ninety percent of the time, we're pretty much just doing it for the loot, not because we want to. Nerfing Gjallarhorn just makes it so that something we could use to make the grind a little less painful is now marginally less effective, and for all the wrong reasons: Supposedly, to keep players from being too elitist. All this solution has done has made it harder to accomplish what we set out to do. Yes, we could do it with other weapons, yes, we could do it with the same weapon, but it's just enforcing a long, boring slog through the same fight you've done time after time, shooting at an enemy who has no right to be able to take as much damage as they do, for the miniscule chance at a mediocre reward that they'll dumb down anyway if it so suits them. Nerfing the Gjallarhorn doesn't promote elitists to back down. It promotes elitists to rise up even farther and make heavier demands. Before, where they would demand a Gjallarhorn, if you were a high enough level and had something else of value to offer, they might just overlook it. Now? They'll want people to have it even more to make up for the lost firepower of those who did have it, who can no longer compensate for those who do not. And with half of the more "extreme" bosses and situations featuring time limits of some sort? Enrage mechanics, health regeneration, health leeching, special side objectives, and more? Both of the Raids have a great many situations that boil down to "Kill it before it automatically kills everyone." If you don't want to make players focus on speed, don't force them to rush to win. Don't force them into awkward situations where the only way to win is to hammer away at the boss because it will just kill everyone otherwise. Make mechanics that are actually interesting, and allow players to actually use whatever playstyle they so choose. Because there's no sense in trying to go at Crota with anything other than powerful rocket launchers, because it's just a waste of ammunition to try getting him to kneel. There's no sense in trying to beat Aksor with your standard weaponry, because the hardest part of the fight is the fact that everything is a complete cluster-blam!- that you're trying to deal with while beating him. Same with the Nexus, where if you do it the "right" way, you're sprinting about the arena trying not to get turned into swiss cheese before you can bring down the boss. You don't use your primary on Atheon-- You go at him hard with the strongest sniper rifles, rocket launchers, or even machine guns that you can to deal as much damage to him as possible, so that you maybe only have to go through the portals once or twice, and kill him before he enrages. Bungie is trying to force players to play the game in a way where they absolutely must do everything the "right" way, which is slower and more tedious, in a game where they've set it up so that in the hardest parts you're trying to race against the clock, and you're reliant on dealing massive damage in short amounts of time to ensure success. The game they've created requires a different style than the one they want to force everyone into. So in short, nerfing Gjallarhorn really just makes it harder to reap the rewards of the challenges you face, and their constant "nerf this, nerf that" mentality makes it so that, quite honestly, there's not even much point in seeking out the best gear in the game, because it's not much of a reward anymore when the reward has been watered down. I got the Black Hammer this week and was excited because I wanted it. I knew it was one of the best weapons in the game for its White Nail perk. I felt rewarded for beating Crota. Now, knowing that the White Nail perk just means I don't have to reload basically, but I'm still losing ammunition? Why bother? Might as well just use another Solar sniper rifle with high impact and a higher capacity. Reloading isn't that big of a deal, and if all I'm doing is skipping a reload animation, I'm going to be far less concerned with making sure every one of those shots is a precision hit because I'm not actually gaining anything from it other than the extra damage. And against someone like Valus Ta'aurc, whose tiny head is oftentimes obscured by his Giant Pauldrons of Doom, I'd rather just go ahead and deal the damage anyway, precision be damned. So if they nerf the Black Hammer, I'm probably just going to toss it in my vault and forget I had the thing. And the next time I fight Crota, it'll probably take more time to bring him down with everything being nerfed, and I'll care even less about the rewards because they're the dumbed-down versions of what they were designed to be. The reward is cheapened, and the challenge made harder. Hitting all of the solid weapons with the nerf bat is just promoting bad gameplay while taking away the entire point of that gameplay: Acquiring that good gear. Good gear is designed to make the game easier because it is better. What's the point otherwise? Let us play the game in the manner we wish to play it. If we want to use our hard-earned ammunition-regenerating sniper rifle so that we don't have to sit and wait for five minutes on an ammo synthesis and drag the fight out, why is that a problem? If we want to bring that boss down with a beautiful rocket launcher, aptly named after a horn that signals the End of Days, that's our right. We worked hard for our overpowered tools of destruction, and our beloved prizes are made less. If that means that a Raid group wishes that those joining them likewise have powerful armaments, then clearly that's because they would like to succeed at what they're doing and accomplish the goals quickly. That's rather understandable, isn't it? As someone who works seven days a week, I don't have a ton of extra time. I've had to pass up on several Raids, several Skolas battles, because people ask me at points where it's two hours until I really need to go, and I know that if we don't hit it fast and hard, I'll be left out in the cold because there's simply not enough time, and it's an activity that demands time. So I can fully respect groups that want to hit it fast and hard and be done with it. Is that fair to people who don't have the weapons? Yes and no. No, because it means many groups will pass them over, but yes, because there are so many people playing this game that it couldn't be impossible to find a group not asking such of you. Search hard enough and you will find skilled players who are more than willing to fight with you regardless of your gear, and who are not necessarily looking to just smash it and collect loot, but just have a fun time. Different needs for different players. Bungie wants us all in the same box, and treats us all the same, but we are not the same. We do not have the same time to dedicate, the same playstyles, the same needs. [b]TL;DR: Let us play however we want to play and stop punishing players for trying to make the grind less painful for the same crap rewards.[/b]
