So the other day I was watching some videos on crucible and out of nowhere a 30 minute ad came up. It was about the "greatness" that is destiny, and some randy was interviewing four guys from bungie.
I am aware that destiny is flawed, I am aware that it is a hollow repetitive game with excellent gun play. Im okay with that, im even going to buy the taken king because of how much I have enjoyed playing with my friends.
What I am NOT okay with, is how bungie keeps marketing this game as something it is not. "Expansive world with new things to do everyday!" Also "Rich story with new twists around every corner" wtf game are they talking about?
Destiny is a horrible story game, it has a terrible narrative, its clearly been chopped up and split into multiple DLC's it is made to be addictive, and worst of all, they lie to new players about what they will "actually" get.
That is my beef, the lies...
I think its time we players of destiny started giving bungie more shit about the garbage content we keep getting. It needs to stop, and we the players can make it happen.
Unfortunately, im sure no one will read this, and probably nobody cares.
Oh well =/
Edit 1: im surprised this even had more than a few replies. Ive posted before, nevet got any replies. Funny how life tends to surprise us.
I should clarify that I don't hate destiny, I was annoyed and frustrated by that ad. It was a bit much, more than just a white lie. I have a love hate relationship with destiny, I play it often as I mentioned above, it is still fun. I get that all ads lie to a degree, but destiny does have strengths, and I dont get why they dont play off that.
Mechanics, physics, raids, strikes, pvp, the co op experience. Things that yes we may do over and over again but we still do because the gameplay is so good we still play.
There is a misconception that you cannot enjoy something yet pick out its flaws. I saw the replies wjth people saying "stop playing if you hate it" I dont hate the game, I dont agree with the ads, specially for the new players.
I love destiny, but it is when you love something, and spend so much time with it that you are able to see what its strengths and weaknesses are. Just because I can point out those weaknesses does not mean I dont enjoy the game.
It is like me saying I never want to improve as a person, no one is perfect, but we can always strive to be better.
Is bungie doing the same with their game? Hopefully...

And we all are playing that lie because it is still fun.
-
ET the game surpasses destiny by mountaintops
-
They should cut marketing and use the resources to make a FREE DLC that is bigger and better then destiny THEN a month later charge $60 for it.

4 RisposteIf you're so upset then stop playing.
-
If I had a buck for every time I saw this very same post with a slight change in wording I'd have the 500 Million Activision gave for the franchise.
-
1 RispondiHow else would you want them to market their product? "New stuff to do everyday but they're basically the same missions over and over again." "Expansive worlds for you to explore, though you'll probably not be able to access everywhere." Would you have bought it if they told you the truth?
-
Marketing techniques suck big time. But its how they make their money. Especially taking marketing techniques from activision.
-
It's marketing man. Is it frustrating? Yes. But lots of other products and games are marketed in the same way. Just the way it is. I look for positives in Destiny and let it go with that.

"So here's this giant enemy crab"
-
I cry every time ;-;
-
1 RispondiPretty sure Watch Dogs was way more of a let down
-
We all see how much potential this game and universe has. Unfortunately Bungievisions's absolute corporate greed is holding it back.
-
I agree with you I love it but it's not everything they advertise.
-
5 RisposteOk if you think the game is terrible. why are you still playing?
-
2 RisposteOk, so three 34s, just played today, still on the forums after trashing the game he played today... ... what we're you saying again?
-
This was apparent right away when the game was released. The only thing to do is to to play the game for what it is.

5 RisposteModificato da Lutallo: 7/14/2015 2:03:03 AMMy favourite is E3 2013: "This is all playable space". My -blam!-ing left testicle this is playable space you bastards For those asking, here is the proof: https://youtu.be/es8peAOwntw?t=1m15s

Preach... The only thing keeping it alive are the massive desticles(the new breed of gamer) that this game has created and Activision unlimited marketing budget. Oh and those "Vidoc" videos bungie likes to produce, are terribly misleading.

I'm with you
-
6 RisposteAnd when a new CoD comes out, the devs say that it is great, new and nothing like the last. Its called making money. Get use to it.
-
31 RisposteYet.....you.....still.....play.
-
-
4 RisposteThere are worse games out there. Shut up and pipe down. Destiny could have been one of them.
-
2 RisposteI somewhat agree with you, especially on story and all but what they're saying aren't technically "lies" or deceiving. It's marketing to sell a product and saying "expansive story" isn't a lie, it's an opinion, it's perspective and yours may differ from theirs but remember, they're the one trying to sell you a product. Don't take their word on it. This is why NOBODY should ever preorder a damn thing and wait until someone who isn't trying to sell you something or has their pockets lined with the company money comes out with an honest CONSUMER review.
