A skilled players thoughts about thorn.
Okay here it goes. Yes this is a rant/complaint about thorn. Your getting the input on a guy who is on ps4 who has been playing pvp since beta. Currently top 25 In the tracker on ps4. Here's the deal. Thorn. It's getting old, it really is. Going into a ToO match is a joke because literally every fireteam you face are all using thorn. This is a call out on good players. Really guys? For all you top 1,000 players using it. Your a joke. Thorn is a crutch weapon. The average Joes should be the only ones using it against skilled players like us. Skilled players shouldn't roll on crutchs because everyone else is using it period. I've never liked thorn and I never will. HAWKMOON. Anyway. Getting back to thorn. It needs to be nerfed already , it does.. A guy put together a based stat on teams who went flawless with Handcannons. 70% used thorn 22 % used last word, and only 8% used hawkmoon. Really destiny community? We're better then that. We are. Letting one gun rule them all is a joke. I suggest a very good way to smooth thorn out. I know alot of you thorn users are like "but tlw and hawkmoon 2 shot! Don't nerf thorn poison, it will be weak!" Here's a solid solution. Don't nerf the damage, don't nerf the poison. Keep it a 2 shot gun so it keeps up with TLW and Hawkmoon. Nerf the stability or the range. Make it a actual challenging gun to use. Instead of the typical 2 heads shots and run away tactic. Bungie get off your lazy arses and take notice to this already. You nerfed auto rifles because they were the most used weapons in the game for a certain period. Look at thorn. The past 3 weeks trails has been Thorns of Osiris. Fix it.
Before any of you tell me to get gud or call me a blink shotgun noob. Yes I do. I abuse my shotgun. Why? Because I have a better chance blink shotgunnin thorn users close/medium range then I do with hawkmoon. Thorns RoT and the poison overwhelm it sometimes. Don't get me wrong I outgun 80% of thorn users but that's usually when it's a 50 meter + gun fight. I just shouldn't burn out after I outgun thorn users.
Okay here comes the thorn defenders! Let the hate flow.

Okay I see alot of feelings hurt and people crying cause I made the post and they say I'm whining. I don't speak for myself I speak for alot of the community aswell. Don't think this is just another guy complaining about a weapon he died to. I rarely die to it. I'm speaking out for all the players aswell who have a hard time defending themselves against thorners.

For alot or you guys who can't read aswell. This isn't a cry about 1v1 thorn users. It's about their not being any diversity in the community anymore. So much toxic aswell from you top players in destiny. It's sad

And no this is not a ego Booster. I'm not trying to build up my legacy or polish my sweaty forehead. This was just a post letting the community know there are highly skilled players out there who don't use thorn and do know that it is ridiculous. I salute all you non thorn users. Keep it up!

I think DoT should stop if you're dead that's all. If you lose the gun fight you shouldn't get the postmortem.

The thing is, those weaknesses in my opinion were what kept Thorn a balanced weapon. When I heard of them planning out some Exotic buffs, I was extremely worried they were going to get rid of ALL of the weaknesses and instead leave a weapon that has little to no drawbacks. What I personally think Bungie should do, is they should revert one or two of the buffs Thorn got during the Exotic buff patch. These things are listed below: •Stability increased to 41 from 22. Previously Thorn had actual recoil if you didn't use Perfect Balance. This recoil made it difficult to spray opponents down accurately and required patience between shots. The main counter to this was using Perfect Balance, but at that point you are giving up the long-range potential and aim-assistance gained through using Send It. Thorn was either deadly accurate at the medium ranges, or kicked like a mule but hit like a truck at longer distances. This was a valid weakness and in my opinion didn't need to be changed. •Reload Speed increased to 43 from 16. This was the main thing players complained about. Thorn had a painfully long reload speed which meant that every time you wanted to reload, or were forced into it, Thorn would have a long downtime before you could go back in to the fight. Being caught out while reloading meant certain death, and this was a weakness to compensate for how strong the weapon was while it was in use. if you weren't accurate and expended your magazine carelessly, you were out of the fight for being so careless. Personally I'm okay with this buff and I don't think it needs to be reverted. •Magazine Size increased to 9 from 6. This was the lesser complaint players had, which was further emphasized by how slow the Reload Speed was. Thorn would get you three kills at maximum before you had to endure the painful reload. You wanted to ensure you made your magazine count, but now that is a thing of the past. You have enough bullets for four normally, or five if they're already weak, before you have to go through Thorn's decent reload time. I'd be in support for this one being reverted as well. Like i say since months is that bungie should nerf the dot. It should only apply when u headshot. That way it stays a great gun but not every dumb will spam u on the back and let the dot kill u

I completely agree about thorn, it is ruining pvp. It's sad to see skilled players rely so much on a weapon. No one puts that weapon down. Although I do find it a little bit ironic that you're calling out skilled players for abusing thorn yet you admit to abusing blink/shotgun. Blink/shotgun is just as bad as thorn, if not worse than it. Shotgun or blink by itself isn't the problem. It's the combination.

I agree that Thorn needs to be rebalanced, but good players are going to use it. Thorn and TLW are the top tier weapons right now, if you're not using it you're putting yourself at a disadvantage against players of similar skill. Ideally, no one would use them and crucible would be much more balanced. But we all know that's not gonna happen l0l.

I use last word and do just fine, boss. But I'll agree thorn and final rounding has gotten old. Biggest crutch in the game is lucky raspberry thorn combo, so cheap.

What if I use Thorn purely for Impact and Rate of Fire? (Partly Range too as I use the Range and Accuracy perk) I only get 10% of my kills from DoT as I never rely on it. I use 3 shots to kill my target.

1 RispondiI respect you for this post because you gave an alternative to fixing Thorn instead of just the usual "Waaah! Nerf Thorn!" threads. I myself use Hawkmoon mostly in PvP as well. I just think Thorn makes bad players good and good players great. It's just not a challenge to use and honestly, it feels really "cheap". Hawkmoon kills or ANY other kills are more satisfying tbh. Much respect.

6 RisposteI agree 100% with everything you said. Im just suprised Bungie hasnt done anything about it yet. Also, as a top 1% PVP player, im VERY sad to say that the game is getting boring. Im sick of going into trials against a team of 3 Thorns EVERY time.

I just earned my thorn, which BTW REALLY SUCKS Bungie needs to not nerf thorn, but the process to get thorn. But anyways, I don't want to use Thorn in ANY PVP matches because it's OP. I don't like abusing powerful objects. But on the other hand, I did EARN it. Btw, the process in which you get thorn involves you killing 100 people in crucible with void damage and losing 1/2 of each kill with each death. So people who say thorn users have NO skill, are wrong. But I do think it's a little cheap, but if your bad at crucible ( which I'm pretty bad) then i don't think it's cheap.

Current issue with thorn. 1.its clip size is way to large it got buffed from 6 to 9 allowing you to spam more. 2. Reload speed got the largest buff ever it used to reload at the same rate paint dries. Now solution 1. Lower to clip size to 7 not 6 because it allows you to atleast shoot 3 body shots for 2 people (meaning they die) and have 1 bullet left (make FR relevant on it then) so not netfing it to the ground. 2. Make the reload speed slower because as im aware of ive had the gun sense 3rd or 4th week and once they raised the reload speed is when it got crazy good. Theres no penalty for spamming anymore you can freely shoot it without worrying about the reload speed screwing you. Now i have no problem with the 2 shot head shot you hit me in the head gj i have no issue. If you die after the other player dies then fine thats the whole purpose of it it gives you post mordems thats a mechanic that makes thorn what it is so im fine with that. Stability isnt an issue really honestly the only issue i have with that type of mechanic is that both TLW and Thorn have some of the highest target aquistions (aim assist etc) in the entire game even to the point that the bullet actually curves at time (watch destiny planet video). I have a ton of kills with thorn obviously you can see if you look me up but now i rarely use it anymore because its boring and way to op for my liking.

I agree. This is so cheap. All you thorn users head glitch and run away when my last word starts popping you in the face. It's okay though... Never stopped me from getting to the lighthouse.
