7 Reasons you should not buy The Taken King....

Will Buy

481

Will Not Buy

415

1. The obvious reason is the ludicrous price of $40 for the DLC. Putting veteran players at an astonishing $140 in the first year of Destiny's release. While new players can purchase all of the content including The Taken King for $59.99 brand new. 2. Nothing is going to change without people actually doing something like not purchasing the expansion. Bungie doesn't care how much you complain if you continue to purchase their content. 3. This article is exactly how a video game and the producers of that game should be run and treat its players. http://gamingbolt.com/the-witcher-3-comes-with-a-thank-you-note-to-the-players 4. Bungie is not here for the players, they are here for the profit. No matter how much they like to state they are. I continue to hear the word empathize used when explaining their feelings towards our complaints. Yet little is actually done to accommodate the loyal community. 5. The lack of content to this point is an absolute joke. I agree with their new price of $59.99 for all of the content through The Taken King as that should have all been included with the initial purchase. 6. You can basically picture Luke Smith just laughing in all of our faces while answering questions during this interview. He is politely telling the guy to F*** Off without directly doing so. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-06-22-destiny-the-taken-king-director-defends-40-expansion-price-tag 7. It takes numbers to make change, be a part of it and do something rather than complaining all the time. There are plenty of other games to keep you busy until Bungie decides they want to make Destiny a fair priced game. Don't get me wrong with this post I am a huge fan of Destiny and I am disappointed to discontinue my play come September. However I am not a fan of the way loyal fans are being treated, and I am not a fan of shelling out hundreds of dollars for a single video game. Which is unbelievable when you think about the amount of content you are paying for. I truly do hope Bungie turns things around and figures out a solution to their current problems of looking to profit off of their players more than support them. EDIT: Nothing has changed with the weekly update from Deej.....still an absolutely terrible deal. The price of the DLC did not change, and they are charging $20 for 9 pieces of content where all they really did was change the rendering of existing items. Thanks Bungie, actions DO SPEAK louder than words and you have shown us you truly do not care. EDIT: Agreed I should have added more options to the survey. Feel free to post your thoughts on what should change in order for you to purchase TTK. EDIT: Make sure to like the post if you agree.....that will cause it to remain on the top pages.

  • This why i prefer my pc for gaming, i can use a much better wireless controllers, better graphics etc etc, but mainly prices http://www.g2play.net/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=witcher+ When you can get latest releases for that money, its a no brainer. Plus modding ,which make old games shine again. Much larger communitys. Plus since the arkham knight debarcle pc players spoke by refund warner bros and rocksteady shit it. Already it looks better than console ver with more to come.15million destiny players is loose change in pc gaming . But the op is right .

  • Bungie you have slapped all your loyal fans in the face by giving away 40 quid of dlc for free for all those who waited you can now get destiny and all the dlc for 80 quid instead of 140 Pounds I spent so far in () the game cost us 59.99 (37.99 if you preoreded off amazon) the dlc 39.99 (34.99 if you bought from game) tkk yet another 40 pounds but new people can get everything we have for 80 quid it is not on I'll tell you no emblem or shader will make up for 40 quid they get free and trying to say here your fans for your loyalty here's a new shader and emblem for being a year one fan I will get on a plane fly to bungie studios and give you a letter of complaint hopefully you burn in hell for ripping off all your loyal fans.

  • 1. The $40 is not an unreasonable price given what other companies and games charge for DLC, and what has been rumored to be in this one. This is less a "DLC" than it is "Destiny 1.5" 2. $140 is not an unreasonable amount of money to sink into a game that you are playing on a daily basis. If you were playing World of Warcraft, you'd be paying a $15 per month subscription fee. That's $180 per year JUST FOR ACCESS to play the game. You'd still be paying the sort of prices that Bungie is charging for the CONTENT. 3. The problem here is a simple one. Bungie is porting over ways of structuring this game, and paying for it that are VERY familiar....to the point of being common-place.....in the PC gaming world. They are----unfortunately----new to people who are exclusively console gamers. Console gamers have grown accustomed to "sequelized" model of game releases. IOW, the game core play is released every year or two for $60...and any subsequent DLCs are either cosmetic or supplements to keep people playing. You could skip the DLCs and not really miss anything critical to the game. Bungie is expanding this game like PC MMO or action RPG. Where the DLCs/expansions are PART of the core gamign experience...and aren't really optional. So instead of (like Blizzard) charging you a monthly sub-fee, they pay for the game (and its upkeep) by selling you additional CONTENT on an accelerated schedule. There are no free lunches....and this is HOW this game is going to be. So either accept that this is how Bungie is going to finance this game.....or decide that you don't like this model...and get off the train now. Because the only other options are either a monthly sub fee....or an aggressive micro-transaction scheme.

I don't have any problems with the price. For a game I play daily, I'm definitely getting my money's worth. I don't even mind Luke Smith, I don't mind Red Bull.... I don't mind the price, I don't mind the new content. But I'm still not buying TTK until two things change: 1. The community manager is not managing the community. I haven't seen any useful responses in the feedback forums for months. DeeJ only has like 5 or 6 posts in the past month. Where is the communication, Bungie?! Start talking to us about some of these tough issues like vault space or crucible lag. Stop giving us nothing but silence. 2. The vault space needs to be adequately addressed. When all these new unique items come out, it's not going to matter, because no one has room for any of this stuff. When IGN pushed DeeJ on it, his response was basically, "well, you're going to have to start making tough decisions about what to keep and what to delete". WHY do you give us a loot-based game, then force us to destroy all the loot we find?! It makes me not want to play, because the grind is pointless. Why grind for anything new when I have no where to put it, and DeeJ tells me to dismantle it anyway? Absolutely ridiculous. And when we ask for a response to this issue, they give us the http://helenkellersimulator.org/

I really do not understand the people that are in support of the prices for The Taken King.......they are either 1. Working for Bungie 2. They have completely lost their minds and playing 500 hours of Destiny has fried their brains or 3. They are 12 years old and their parents will be paying for it so they don't care about the money........haha

          • Hmm, my friends and I have 1500-3000 hours in the game I have 60 games that you lucky to squeeze a fun 15 hours from. 100 bucks for that kind of entertainment is in heard of taking my wife to a nice dinner and a movie cost more than 100 bucks, and that's about 3 hours of entertainment. As for being out for profit not for gamers who gives a shit, you think every person or company that provides a service to you gives a shit about you more than keeping your money flowing? If so, you're naive and need to open your eyes to the way shit is. As for not purchasing or making people see your point of view so that bungie will change their evil ways (aka the way everyone else does it,) not gonna happen. Activision pumps out call of duty year after year with little improvements if any, bungie has provided more in 8 months and listened and grown more than the COD franchise has done in the last 5 years. I average about 80-100 per year on COD as doc the rest of COD fans swear each year to never again, but that's just how things go the biggest whiners and haters buy it right along side me. Same will happen in destiny no matter what the rest of you no life (I say no life because you still cry and complain 8 months later, pretty sure you need to move the phuck on) scrub a dubs say or do. Your just wasting your time and energy that has probably given you more entertainment for your buck than just about any other game purchase. So instead of being great full you cry and complain, then buy it anyways, just delete the app off your phone and move along.

            • Note: I am only here to express my opinion. I do believe the OP has some points, though I do not agree with most of them. This is MY opinion, and only an opinion. Thanks. Enjoy the read. So, let me elaborate on most/all of the points made. 1. Yes, $140 sounds like a lot for all of the content, and it would be if that's what they were asking for at launch. However, I paid $60 for the base game, and then $30 (I think) for the season pass. Within this year, I have gotten my money's worth in play time. This play time will increase over the next year. And, yes, there will be more DLC that will add on to the overall amount paid, however I enjoy Destiny enough to where it will balance out. I understand this may just me, however. 2. As stated above, I enjoy Destiny. This is the beauty of video games, and people in general. Some people like certain games that others just hate, and vise versa. If you don't wish to continue supporting a game, then hey, that's perfectly fine, however just understand that some of us still like it, and we want to continue supporting it. It's because we enjoy it, so please respect that. 3. The Witcher is not marketed by Activision (More on that later). But yeah, I agree, it'd be nice if every game did this. 4. Bungie does not handle pricing/budget/almost anything involving money. That's Activision's job. Activision handles all of the marketing and finances (I believe). It's Activision's job to market the game, and come up with ways to make profit. Hence micro-transactions on Call of Duty and PlayStation exclusivity rights on Destiny, and now Call of Duty. Bungie's job is to create the game. They handle all creation of content (whether or not they decide what goes into each DLC is unknown to me). So, yes, Bungie does care for the community. They care about their game. They don't handle the marketing. (However, yes, Bungie did sign on with Activision, so they're not completely innocent). But please, if you have issues on the price of something, take it up with Activision. If you have an issue with actual game content, then Bungie is who you need to talk to. 5. Yes, there was a lack of content at launch. At least, playable content, if that makes sense. I believe the reason why there seemed to be a lack of content is because a lot of the budget was spent on the music, sound design, textures, gameplay mechanics, aethstetics, etc... Basically, things that make Destiny look, sound, and feel beautiful, but not things that we could actually do. This doesn't excuse Bungie, but is a mere theoretical explanation. I'm not a developer at Bungie, I can't say anything for sure, but this is just my theory. 6. The interview was poorly set up. Does that excuse what was said by Luke Smith? No. But Luke Smith is not a PR guy, like Deej. Also, he's got that sort sense of humor and sarcasm. I don't believe he meant what he said in a literal sense. But yeah, someone else should have done the interview in my opinion. 7. Destiny is a fair priced game to those who enjoy it. If you don't enjoy it, then yeah, it's not worth it, so don't spend the money. But hey, if I can get another enjoyable year in Destiny, then it's worth it to me. No, I'm not a "sheep", I'm spending MY money on something I enjoy. It's my responsibility to spend my money how I see fit, not yours (not directly referring to the OP, just people who call other people "sheep"). If you don't want to spend the money, then hey, don't spend the money. You have the freedom to do what you want with it. Just don't criticize other people for buying something that they enjoy playing. Thanks. Another point I could add to this is that Bungie needs money. There are people that need to get paychecks to pay their bills and feed their families. They created this content, and they need to get paid for their time and work. If you read this entire thing, then I thank you, even if you disagree with my points. If you just scrolled down to the bottom to see what was down here, then hey, how's it goin'? Did you have a nice trip? Anyways, this was all just my opinion. I'm not an employee at Bungie or Activision, so almost anything I say about the two companies or how they operate pure speculation. But remember, that applies to you too. Unless you work at Bungie or Activision, in which case... why are you reading this? Have a nice day.
The Cake is a Lie
• You probably should have had an option c : "I'll wait until the DLC comes out and see if it is worthwhile". Bungie has definitely lost the privilege of having me pre-order stuff from them, but if there is a lot of new content in the expansion, I will probably get it. If there isn't alot of new things, I'll probably wait till Destiny 2 and get everything with a bundle. If you look at the time I played destiny, I pretty much put around 500 hours into the base game, 100 hours into TDB and about 20 into HoW. Cosmetic changes and expecting the players to regrind the same content to re level their characters is not a sustainable model. Hopefully Bungie will add a sizable amount of content to The Taken King, but we will see.
