When you finish the PoE you will be prompted to go to the starting airlock room. In that room the floor willl open and there will be a chest with guaranteed legendary,exotics,raid, and queen items. But guess what? The way to open those chests is to have the treasure key that you get from the bounty chests in patrol and PoE. Thats why its so rare. The first time you beat the different levels of PoE they will give you a key to collect loot. Everytime after the first attempt for that week you will not recieve a key upon completion so when you drop down the chest will be locked. But if you have extra keys you can open the chests again. Meaning that you can be rewarded infinitely with top tier gear without resets as long as you have keys and complete one of the 3 rotating PoE events. So pretty much those keys are absolutely essential to the end game rewards and should be extremely sought after. Tl;dr - You better be farming the shit out of those keys as we speak. If not youre missing out on end game loot. Edit 1: You can only carry 5 keys in your inventory and 5 in your vault. So if you have 5 keys for 3 characters and 5 in your vault you can have up to 20. Edit 5: You guys can also start collecting Trials of Osiris coins by doing the daily crucible event. You can do one per character so you can collect 3 easy coins a day. Also coins drop as match rewards. Edit 6: Bungie likes to add raid mechanics to story and patrol missions to give us a feel for the mechanics. For example, the blades of crota let you experience the sword, defending vex conflux in patrol, the weight of darkness in the Sardon mission, standing on vex plates during vex gatelord mission. For the HoW they let you experience the scorch canon and also gave you this mechanic of killing an enemy, recieving a key from that enemy, and then looking for a chest to open with the key. If time runs out or you have no key you cannot open the chest. So, for PoE you will kill the final boss, recieve a key(if its your first time that week), get led to a chest, and if you have a key open the chest you will get loot. If you dont have a key you cannot get rewards. Thats my thinking on top of the other outside proof. Edit 7: It is confirmed. Theyre not patching the key farming.
