Mature discussion about PvP

The latest Bungie update includes major changes to special ammo and heavy ammo. I am curious about what others think about the changes but I know the Bungie forum well enough to ask for mature discussion rather than the usual. I play a lot of PvP coming from a Halo background and Crucible has so much potential. The shotgun issue is real and does get on my nerves when I get 1-shotted from what seems like 20 feet away but is this the way to address it or do you have other ideas? Personally I just think this means we will see more Universal Remotes and Invectives in Crucible after the change. Snipers weren't a problem but they get affected and Fusion Rifles were already nerfed. Thoughts? Edit 1: Just wanted to say that I am glad to see sensible responses. Some of us are probably surprised, even if we disagree with one or two, the responses have been overwhelmingly mature. Edit 2: Very surprised at the quality of responses but even moreso the number of replies! Edit 3: Thoughts on the changes that have resulted from much less special ammo? I like the changes so far. The pace has shifted, I'm seeing a wider variety of primaries being used (even got killed by a Suros Regime, first time in months). However, it is much easier to time exactly when to rush the enemy heavy ammo with a nova bomb to deny them (even though it may be sacrificial). I've been able to routinely get Space Magic and Breaker medals by rushing it and then my team goes on a power play and racks up a quick 2000 points. This isn't a bad thing but forces far more strategy to be used instead of just camping ammo and essentially pausing the game. Edit 4: As a sniper I'm getting more headshots because I'm more measured with my ammo now and people seem to expect snipers less so expose themselves more. For the first time in crucible I've also paid attention to wearing gear that allows me to carry more special ammo. Before it was all about my intellect, discipline and strength stats.

    Last night was the first time I stepped foot into the crucible since the update and here is what I noticed, I observed that there is fewer shotgun kills and I could hear many Thorns being fired in the maps. I still firmly believe that weapons are only as good as the guardians wielding them, I did ok with 18 kills and a 1.8 KDR (definitely not my best). Personally I think the changes will not affect me, but it will make it easier and more difficult for many since it makes players change the playstyle that they have developed up to this point.

  • I personally think that auto rifles should be buffed again. If an auto rifle user was to go against any handcannon or pulse rifle user, the auto rifle user will usually get killed from any range. They were great from close to medium range. Now, ever since that nerf to them, I resort to shotguns and handcannons because now using an auto rifle close range is a death wish.

  • I wish I could remove the aim assist! It's annoying as hell when you are in a gun fight and a third person straffs into screen causing your ret to float off target. It's very bad on suros.

      • After a few weeks away from crucible, due to focusing on leveling vanguard and eris, i come back to the crucible with an Ar. They suck now. Seriously, i thought the people on the forums were exaggerating, but ar's are really not viable anymore in the crucible. Rarely see someone using an auto rifle now. BUTTtt im really happy with what they did with special and heavy ammo, primary guns are actually in use now. Overall, im happy with this patch, except for the assault rifle nerf (which i main) and thorn abuse. That thing is becoming the new suros.

      • I think it was a great changed really helped out this pvp move forward the shotguns were a hige issue especially when iron banner hands out shotguns all day I'm even ok with the snipe ammo cuz if your wasting ammo now just to one shot some one your probably really bad at destiny.

      • I thought Bungie was supposed to match equally skilled players? If so half the time I should finish in the top half and half the time in the bottom half, shouldn't I. Shouldn't most of us? Instead the algorithm consistently picks me to lower the curve for the rest of the team. I try to enjoy crucible but it's tough when the deck is stacked against me. Honestly Bungie I don't care what you buff or nerf. Just give me a chance against players of the same caliber.

        • I mainly do not appreciate the facts that were given about the reasons behind the changes. They released percentages of weapons used and basically buffed the low and nerfed the high. On top of that shotgun range was nerfed just in time for an extended range shotgun to be released. Now problems with the ammo changes. Yes special weapons can be a problem, but limiting the ammo isn't the answer. One problem we are going to run into now is getting a buckshot bruiser bounty and MAYBE being able to get one a match or less. Heavy ammo... guilty of letting it sit until the storm calms. I use machine guns and I get really tired of being blown away by rockets. My choice, my game. But it sounds like that option is being taken away so that makes me very unhappy. Other concerns are primary ammo. Is it going to have individual boxes or are we going to still have to rely on green boxes to show up? I know I'm not alone in the family of killstreakers that often run short on primary ammo while on a 10-20+ killstreak. Overall I am not happy with the changes coming, but I will adapt and overcome.

            • Ok lets really be honest, the fact that a team of hunters, 2v2, 3v3, or 6v6 (which happens all the time) or even HALF a team with hunters can EASILY camp both heavy ammos with golden gun or bladedancer and totally flip a game. Especially in skirmish, its kind of ridiculous. Forget blink and shotgun might as well just jump the damn ledge

            • I would never use an exotic secondary in PVP. Only primaries. Special ammo wasn't even reduced by that much it's still easy to get

            • Well if we see invective and universal remote then that is a tough choose cause that would take a exotic slot, invective generates about four round a time every about 20 seconds and the universal can only do so much cause you don't have primarys like red death and last word if you run a exotic shot gun. This gives those weapons a little more closer to the title of a exotic weapon.

            • Don't care what they do, war isn't based on rules of fairness. They change enough stuff often enough to keep it interesting. I don't ask for changes or nerfs because I don't want to be responsible for anything being screwed up any worse than it already is to 95% of the population. The interesting fact is all the people who bitch have never played a game as long as this has been out. They all talk about how they're tired of it they're going to play something else because They have short attention span. PVP is fine.

            • I dislike the heavy ammo change, because that was a strategy that anybody could employ and counter easily as a TEAM. If you dont play as a team you should not win. Plain and simple. A super can counter a machine gun and a rocket and poof, suddenly the game is back to normal. Special ammo change is fine because they are supposed to be situational guns that at ment to work under special circumstances, not as your primary weapon.

            • First off snipers are a problem I see snipers used on every map. They should be reserved for long range only but as of right now they are the best secondary with tr insta kill time and ability to shoot threw walls Next both UR and Invective are exotics As such useing them forces people not to use other exotics ( g horn, Hawkmoon, thorn) Last after today's PvP balance will be perfect
