If Destiny Was Subscription-Based...

Than updates would come out faster, because they probably would hire more people to help speed up development. They wouldn't have to worry on working on a Destiny 2, because they would be getting paid by all their users every month on Destiny 1. Ex: Where's WoW 2? Destiny would have released with way more content(TDB&HOW might've even been part of the base game). Why? Because games that you feel lied to you(via advertisement) and ripped you off in the beginning isn't worth your time or money. DLC would just be updates for the paying customers. Destiny's world would've been way bigger than it is and Destiny's servers would've been able to hold more players in both PvE and PvP. Destiny would have better servers, because with extra money coming in they would be able to afford better servers(it's not free running servers). Goodbye farm animal named connectivity issues anyone? Destiny would have had a better story, because simply, getting money every month would be a great incentive to not screw that part of the game up. ***ADDING*** I'm having too much fun with this post. Tune in for my next one, If Destiny was on PC... ***PLUGGING*** Why I suggested Destiny should've been a subscription-based game from the beginning? The community is asking for too much and giving so little.
$60 from everyone isn't enough to these Devs anymore. DLC is there just to make up the money they really want to be making off us.
Destiny as a game and franchise has a $500 million dollar budget. The PoS they gave us wasn't even worth the $60 price tag. I feel even worse for the people who got suckered into the collector's editions. The highest sub fee I'd pay is $10 a year for this game.

                  • And you'd probably have fewer players. While already paying for access to online gaming, you're also paying monthly to play? Fuggetaboutit. I played WoW for 1 month. Borrowed a friends copy, got a one month subscription card. Refused to pay more money to play. I'm not going to drop ~$60 to buy a game, then pay a monthly on top of that. Notice the difference between Destiny and games like WoW; Destiny has a lot of squeakers and WoW has very few. Why? Mom and Dad aren't going to pay monthly for a game on top of other games they buy for their kids. Plus, WoW is structured differently. It was designed to be added on, destiny was not. Also PC vs console has a large bearing on a decision like that.

The thing is, with all the mediocre reviews, and pissed off players. Their player base would drop off considerably. And they would have to switch to free2play model with micro transactions. There is just not enough content. And not enough to do in their open world to justify paying for more then a couple of months. Just look at the player number drop off wow had before the lastest expansion dropped. And that game has tons of content. The free to play fps space is also pretty crowded with some really good games.

The LAST time I payed any money to a "developer" for access to a product I already payed for was back in 2000, it was called a "hunters license" for Phantasy Star Online on the DREAMCAST. And there hasn't been one game since then that is worth paying money to a developer to access post purchase since then. And Destiny isn't any exception. If they went subscrip pay to play id mail them Chapstick and wish them the best drag sucking a fart out my azz. Ain't paying anybody to access what I bought over 15 years and ain't doin it now either . And don't none of you bother with that whole "well it's the same as paying for internet or a water bill" BS. Internet is borderline required nowadays (paying your bills quicker, looking for doctors closest to you, doing background checks on chicks who wanna date you but are wanted in Minnesota for the kidnapping and murder of 3 children). Paying a developer money to use something I payed for already is BS. And no, I don't care what the EULA says. If the EULA was a legit thing, we wouldn't be having in-game content removed by developers trying to take even more of our money. Look at Randy BlTCH-Turd of Gearbox Software. He sold a season pass for borderlands 2 and during the season subjectively removed content and had to regularly put out "compatibility patches" for people to play together because so many players had what others didn't the game code wouldn't let them play together without those patches. Nah. If they go subscrip pay-to-play they've sealed their coffin and deserve tossing off a cliff.

                                • The game is 60 dollars came out in november with 2 dlc's that cost 30. That's $90 which is equal to about 6 months of subscription based pay. Which is half of what players will pay in a year. There will likely be 2 more dlc's before comet, and 4 more after comet before the next game. Which adds to about 90 more dollars. Let's assume Comet is free. They'd make 180 dollars from each player over an interval of 2 years. Where if this were subscription based they'd make around $360. The player base is so large that they are probably making a few times that of what they'd make if it were subscription based, because I'm sure that more than half would leave if it were.

                                    • If it was subscription based the game, played be millions, would probably be cut in half. The reason why is because parents wouldn't let their little 9-10 year old do something like that. Yes they can have a xbox or play station and the internet involved but at a major expense. Have all that with additional subscription and then taxes would leave a lot of player and families unhappy and upset. But that's just my point of view if you have a better reason to combat that go ahead and tell me.

                                      • Too bad your argument about needing more money is negated by the simple fact that they made back the entire budget for the entire 10yr franchise in the first few months. Everything from the first dlc on is pure profit.

I'm thinking this is a 'cash injection' for either a better sequel or the ending sequence of bungie and this game may of been doomed from the start.

                                            • Paying a monthly subscription... hmm. Seeing as how that wouldn't have affected the game we got at launch, I'll say no. My swimming pool has more depth, and I don't have a swimming pool. To be fair, I get your argument. You do make several good points. However, maybe I'm just spoiled by a lifetime of console gaming, but I really don't feel like I should have to throw that much money at a game to feel like I actually received a whole and complete experience. Vanilla Destiny was not a complete experience. Not at all.
