The question is: Does PvP take more skill than PvE in Destiny? You can vote and post you don't have to read my arguments although I recommend you skim through them. My arguments
PvP absolutely takes more skill that PvE. It is much harder to kill a team of humans that have largely unpredictable patterns and potentially better weapons than mobs who have predictable programming who never adapt to a situation or strategy. And which plans have been devised that work Everytime. Not to mention cheeses. You can't cheese PvP. Some may argue, "Go solo Crota and tell me if its hard." You don't have to solo Crota. Bungie gave you a team, like they give PvP players a team. Soloing Crota would be like taking on a 6 man team in control by yourself (I've tried, I'd rather try to solo Crota). The people who have soloed Crota have a formula, a pattern that works because the AI doesn't adapt. They don't see things coming and do the same things over and over and over again. It takes timing, but not skill per-say. For those of you who say their stats are bad because they don't play: don't post here simple as that. For those of you that say all you need is bad connection: I've only witnessed this once in all my months of PvP. My wifi is terrible, if I get through three jobs of gta 5 online I consider myself lucky. Everytime I look at my wifi bar it's low and red. With that being said, I experience very little lag so you just might want to check your connection. For those of you that say it's unbalanced: it's not, you just need to adapt. If you know there's a trigger happy blinker than you don't want to run around every corner and back up when you see red. This isn't call of duty, run and gun won't work here as well as it will in Call of duty. For those of you that say you only play for bounties: you have no business here then. Move along. Raids do take a little bit of coordination and communication. I would know I've done a number of raids and do atleast 6 a week. And up to 12. So I know how raids work.
Also, hats off to you gentlemen who are good at both! You are the true Guardians. For the slower students who need things drawn out in bold for them, The question is does PvP take more skill (or is more difficult to master) than PvE? Please in your arguments take PvE in as a whole. PvE is much more than raids. It's story missions, nightfalls, strikes, and weeklies. Using raids as an example is fine but those seem to be the only arguments against PvP. Also, please be respectful, go drink your coffee before you post so that your not so grumpy and calling fellow guardians morons. Yes we are looking at you Uncle Steve -_- Edit: This whole post was revised on March 16, 2015 for clarity. People don't camp in the crucible. If you played it you'd know that. NO ONE CAMPS. Your thinking of call of duty Edit: Just got Gjallahorn, extremely happy

  • I know alot of people who are great at pve but when stepping foot into crucible there terrible. Then I know alot of people that are insane at pvp and there not terrible at pve. The thing is the kill time in pvp means your reactions and aim under pressure play massive part in it and all of these quality's play into pve also. It's hard to say really but I'm good at pvp (not amazing but always over a 1.5 kd) and I'm also very good at raiding.

My answer is no, i play both and i belive they both boil down to teamwork. A fireteam of the random pvp players could easily be defeated by pve players who simply co-operate, adapt and overcome. Also vice versa

PVP is always going to be more challenging for the reasons you stated. Destiny's PVP is more challenging than other games. You mentioned COD which I haven't played so I can't comment on but one I have played a lot that I think applies is Halo. I got pretty good at Halo 4 PVP. I wasn't phenomenal but top 25% at one point according to Halo Tracker. Destiny is by far harder than Halo 4. In Halo 4 everyone has the same weapons and the same armor with some slight modifications to abilities. In Destiny you have different armor, different weapons and significant modifications abilities. Since Destiny has all that it also means there are many more tactics you have to be able counter compared to a game like Halo 4 as well. So I struggled early on trying to learn how to play PVP in Destiny and as a result my K/D suffered but is on it's way up now.

    • Pvp does take more skill but I said no due to pvp stats not counting for everything things like playing the objective as well as other factors (eg, supers, lag, spawning next to enemies) all play apart in it

      • I'm 32 and people always have a go at me due to my k/d. I don't care about k/d, as long as I'm on top of the leaderboard I'm fine, talk to me when I'm not there

        • Pvp does take more skill, but I voted no because lag and supers -blam!- up k/d pure and simple. My super can sometimes net me 1-4 kills or simply save my life when normally I would be dead. Pve is learned and doesn't take much adaptation after you know the routes, but moreso I don't like to look at k/d in destiny because it doesn't relate to anything in this game. K/d in other shooters yes, but in destiny it just means you got lucky, a super, or heavy. Machine guns in the right hands and the right moments can easily change my k/d. I had a friend go 22/0 because he has maxed intel, got a couple kills, supered and then used heavy for the remainder. Anyone that came up on him unexpectedly was supered (panic super). It's a fact.

        • IMO PvP doesn't take more skill. It's a completely different skill set from PVE. I have a friend who mainly does PvP. Have seen screenshots of him being in the top 2 in matches. When try to run raids and such with him. He is always the first to die, most times the only one.

        • I'm skilled at both and prefer to play skirmish , but pvp is much harder than pve, sure that Omnigul strike sucks and is just knight fest (nightfall, I'm liking at you!) but still easy to conquer with two people (competent people) where as in skirmish , sure there are times where you can just kill everyone in the map, but once you play good people, that's when things get challenging. Team work is necessary during this time and it's a struggle to gain the upper hand (double skirmish is a good example )

        • PvP is more difficult if you are playing a good team. Sometimes it's just a walk in the park. PvE I'd difficult the first say 3-4 you run a raid, as there is lots to learn. However once you have it cracked it's quite easy and repetitive. Strikes are easy. Nightfall are quite fun, but as a group of three there's no reason not to be able to do them. I don't see the point in patrols, as materials are easier just to buy from vendors.

That depends on your definition of skill. As far as dealing with a target that is human and not AI? Yes As far as a PVPidiot who thinks he knows how to shoot and shows up at a Raid and does something stupid like shooting boomers (Crota CP) in hard mode? -blam!- No.

No. I have a couple of characters at 32, but I don't keep them at 32 for crucible. I constantly use different armor for different PvP situations which results in me being at 30 or 31 most of the time. I'm firmly believe that it takes more skill to play well at PvP. It helps quite a bit to have a good team, but a lot of times the deciding factor, in my opinion, is to have an understanding of tactics, tendencies, and your environment. An example I point to all the time is the first guy in my clan to hit 32. He's done tons of raids and knows them like the back of his hand, but when the clan jumps into the Crucible he's our worst player.

        • Between 3 toons, i think im roughly rank 25-30 for both pve and pvp. Truly I could care less which is better. Personally though, I prefer pvp if I can get some friends to play.

          • I am not a good PvP player. I'm probably not very good at PvE either, but I enjoy both. That being said, I struggle much more in PvP, largely because of everything you said in your arguments. You can't predict the enemy team, and I'm more likely to panic and jump around like a blind turkey on speed (while also bobbing around on the couch and making all the associated noises you might expect irl) when I round a corner and find three enemies running towards me rather than react effectively and adapt to the situation. However I'm stubborn and I'm trying to get better, and hopefully when I reach 32 my PvP stats will be slightly less embarrassing. (⌒-⌒; ) Tldr: yes, I think pvp takes more skill.
