How many times have you seen this scenario play out? Dude grabs spark, takes off. Dude gets near enemy base. Dude sees nothing but red on his radar ahead of him. Dude has 4 teammates hauling ass behind him. Dude runs into enemy base ahead and alone and gets his head blown off.
Here's a tip for all you would-be spark runners that can't seem to score. Wait. That's it! Just wait a freaking minute! It isn't a race for crying out loud!
"Ooooh snap! I got the spark! I got the spark! What do I do now? Run! Run straight for the enemy rift! Hmmm, here I am, outside their base. Damn, there's a bunch of red in there! Where's my teammates? Just a few seconds behind me? Haha, too slow suckas! Ima go straight supa main up in here! Leeeeeerooooy Jenkins!"
This almost never works people. Just wait a freaking minute. Rant over.
Edit: You people crack me up!
Yes, it's true sometimes the only reasonably sound strategy is to make it as far as you can as fast as you can. Everything is situational. But if you find yourself with the spark at the enemy base, and you happen to have green guys close behind you, WAIT!
Also, I hated rift before this IB. Now I love it. More rift IB please, Bungie!

Honestly getting as close as you can and then blowing up with the spark is better then getting killed with it
-
This usually happened to me. I grab the spark realize that I need more teammates so I wait for more to spawn and right as they pass me they sit back to scared to do nothing.
-
Blink FTW.
-
My feelings exactly. Except the dude hiding in the back this week that waited until I was about to drop the bomb and sniped me. High-five to whoever that was, you got me.
-
When im the runner i always take the 'scenic' route to the rift and wait outside till my teammates kill enough of the enemy
-
2 RisposteI want more rift IB too. I run the spark way more than I should have with my team, but that was last week. I had some instances where running into the rift with the whole team there was more prudent than the rest of my team getting wiped out. And also I'd run in a snag the spark just to get killed instantly, but my 300 for spark capture was still more than their 200 for stopping the runner. Waiting on your team is the best way to do it but when your team is full of randoms its best not to rely on them too much
-
Unless you're me! Lol jk it is all situation and depends on the mall. I could never do this on Cathedral of Dusk for instance. Frontier and momento were super easy to score in though. And I am right there with you. I hated rift before Iron Banner. Now I am a fan!
-
Let spark runner go his own way but everyone must distract enemy team.
-
If there's only two guys between me and the rift I'm going to turn into a highly mobile sponge depending on what their running...I see a shotgun. .imma be slowed a little...sniper...eh f you rifts mine.
-
I confess that I did this more than once. I just get "mission focused" and think I can fly, or dodge bullets. I was usually wrong on both counts. Most of the time, I'd wait. But sometimes my eyebrows would fuse and I'd try to Leeroy Jenkins that mother-blam!-er. It worked maybe once or twice, the sheer brass of it making the enemy look at me like, "Look at that idiot he didn't wait for his team what a loser OH SHIT THAT'S RIGHT WE GOTTA SHOOT HIM LET'S SHOO- god dammit."
-
Here's my take on it- when i played iron banner rift solo for the first couple of days, i always went for the spark objective, and got kills while it was charging. When i picked up the spark, 9/10 times i went near the spark, killed a couple of enemies, and waited for the team to support me. But, they never did. I would wait until i was "revealed", and then i was -blam!-ed. So, i would decide to go balls deep and warrior it. It usually didnt work, but it got the distance points. moral: support your -blam!-ing spark runner
-
The bounty for high score turned a lot of people into "grab the spark and run with it" fools in Iron Banner.
-
Hell, my whole team used there supers to get me to the rift. No enemy around, i go up the rift and press square. It would not let me get rid of the spark. A stormcaller came by and killed us. This game is bugged bad
-
That awesome moment a stormcaller, sunbreaker or blade dancer comes through and wipes a team out or causes enough of a distraction and i score......good times.
-
I go with team than they drop
-
I hear ya. Several times I would bust out hammers on titan or stormtrance on warlock to clear a way for my runner. Yet the runner would stay in front of me making my efforts useless then him dying. Then on the other hand though there would be several times that I would be the runner. But everyone would just stay in the spark area pretending like it's control and hard scoping everywhere as I'm left in my own to die. So I would run as far as I could to get the bonus.
-
Yeah I get that. My friends wouldn't do that, and I said "I'll just clear out some enemies so you can capture the spark" and they say "no because then I won't get all my points for killing all of the people when I put down the spark". And I'm like "dude you won't get those points if you run into 5 enemies ready to kill you" and he says "shut up ok I've been playing rift way longer than you" and he dies.

Modificato da evhgear: 2/2/2016 11:07:44 PMStarted playing without my friends and I've seen this happening way too often. Spark runner who rush doesn't leave time for his squad mate to follow and it ends by being killed by defending team sitting at base. I must also say that I've seen my whole team sitting in base instead of giving support to spark runner. Communication is the key in Rift. I've played with a 4 player fireteam and damn it was way easier for the spark runner.
-
I have a friend that is a great rift runner. He communicates knows when to back off and is one hell of an artful dodger. http://xboxclips.com/Severed+Ronin/ee7f9d49-c96b-4dfe-ac09-52dc7cc86dfd The man is an eel.
-
My personal favorite method: Surround them. Especially on open maps like Vertigo or Bannerfall. Get your team to surround the enemy team, and their rift. Do not ignite until they're all dead.
-
Usually my teammates don't help at all. Because of this, I just run forward and try to get points for gaining distance. [][][]

You should join my destiny clan. It's full of people that think completely about what they are doing before blindly running headlong into a precarious situation and screaming nonsense.
-
Usually when I grab the spark (which is not that common) I am so near dead by the time I have collected it my first thought is to find some cover so my health can recharge. Most often that means retreating slightly away from the enemy rift, which also gives my team a chance to push ahead. If they show no signs of pushing, that's the point at which I will probably think about madly sprinting at the rift on my own.
-
10 RisposteHere's the more common scenario. Dude with spark waiting for teammates to back him up, 30 seconds go by, teammates farming kills on other side of map nowhere near rift. Spark carrier dies by the 3 to 4 enemies camping rift. Repeat.
-
10-4! I almost never play Rift, but wanted that scout badly so I grinded IB. I'm not too bad at Rift now. Manage to be the top scorer consistently my last few sessions. How did I do this? I waited for my backup to light the enemy team up before going for that dunk. Wise words bro!
