GM Vanguard Alert does NOT feel like the old GMs

I remember Bungie mentioned GM Vanguard Alerts would be of similar difficulty as old GMs, we expected around -40 power level (more or less the same power deficit as GM conquests). Went in there with my girl 2-man and tried a few loadouts, and every one feels horrible. Wish ender and Eriana’s Vow do not one shot barrier shields, Peregrine does about 1/2 of champ health etc. I don’t remember old GMs being this difficult. We were looking forward to new weekly challenges, I guess this is not it. I think our mistake was expecting it to be somewhere between GM and Ultimate Conquests as far as difficulty goes. Edit: My main complain was with how weak Eriana’s or Wish Ender felt, Revision Zero however made the run much smoother for some reason. (Also, the Supremacy sniper with kinetic tremors). Thanks to those who have pointed out, the fallen pikes do insane amount of damage and helped save ammo / time in our runs.

  • Tip: Use the pikes to kill everything. Melts champs, brigs, gunships guns, walker etc.

    • For me it's not so much the difficulty of the strike it's just that it's one of the shittiest strikes in the game I can't stand that strike..

    • Weapon damage, with a few exceptions, is garbage, and barrier champs are extra annoying this season.

      • I know other teams have had issues, but both of the times I did it I never had a moment of "Oh damn this is rough". The first run was lfg and pretty sloppy and slow but thats mainly because I was the only person with anti-overload and the second time with some friends it felt completely brainless and easy. Definitely not on the level it was in the past, but but we're also always power creeping the game.

      • -40 would be comparable aside from the damage buffs and damage resistance buffs we now have. New armor gives buffs, stats gives age buffs now too. The Alert was disappointing to me because the GMs I enjoyed were the first few seasons. They got easier with beyond light and then much easier with season of haunted. Not to mention they put horrors least as the reward lol. I miss having team composition and strategy be required to beat GMs. Now you only see that in game for mechanically difficult content. We are past the point of return for powercreep.

        • They need to call it something else cause when I saw an activity called GM I naturally went in thinking it was at "grandmaster" difficulty level not something 5x harder than "ultimate" difficulty.

          • That's because GMs are a part of the Old destiny. The one Tyson Green doesn't like. And since we want those and not the conquests. Bungie's idea is to make them worse than ever before, then giving them back without their weapons, without the title, without the same difficulty. And paraded as a favor AFTER they deleted it in the first place when NO ONE -blam!- asked for them to get rid of it. Tyson Green doesn't have a -blam!- clue as to what the vast majority wants. If he did, several hundred thousand players would still be playing. Not leaving.

              I agree, I just cleared it with 2 other guardians and guess what, two of us were: Stronghold + Praxic blade and blocked our way till the end. And even then we had less than 1min left. It’s cheese or nothing, the other guy had a solid build, GR11, and yet he died 10 times. At -50 it is completely overturned but somehow I was expecting something ridiculous.

              • It’s -50 what were you expecting? A walk in the park? If you’ve done the conquests Avalon and Hypernet then this shouldn’t surprise you.

                • yep not having unique rewards is the big problem of gm VA, outside that a good playlist, the other problem is that every part of the challanges should give 50 bd and should be pg based not account based

                • Brawler was on. Literally just spam fletchette storm with wishful ignorance and melt everything. Used wishender for barriers and the new arc special pulse for overloads. It really wasn’t that bad.

                    Ran it with some friends. it was definitely easier than i remember gms being. Yes i ran strongholds with praxic blade. But even then staying alive didnt feel difficult aside from when i got two shot by a hydra over and over. Even then it was my own fault because i didnt bring any resist mods. Just strand for banner of war and into the fray. Woven mail was enough for everything aside from exploder shanks. Enemies felt no where near as bullet sponge as like the hypernet conquest from last season. Even enemies in epic Desert feel harder to kill.

                  • I’ve seen some people compare it to witch queen level gms, but I haven’t done one myself I’d probably try it on the weekend.

                  • I thought it was fun, overloads are definitely bugged again as they weren't stunning for very long, but overall, it was fun and, most importantly, rewarding.

                  • Older GMs were way more difficult when they first launched than what we have today. If you're referring to 'older gms' as in; maybe a year ago when they started making everything a speed run farm, you're correct, this is - more difficult.

                    • It wasnt bad at all finished with 16 mins left. I was a arc soul/stasis buddy build with revision zero/psi aetarna and the other 2 were behemoth titan and consecration titan both had lightsaber.

                          Also worth noting they nerfed all the benefits we got from the artifact with new gear however much of a difference that makes in durability and damage. So regardless of what others say, they nerfed us, then buffed the enemy to be stronger than they were before Bungie started nerfing enemy levels in EOF. Actual GMs are supposed to be -25 now. They were after EOF -30 or -40 sometime before Ash and Iron. And even if I'm wrong in any way, remember that GMs back then capped us 25 below as well and the enemy only had sword icons next to their names, which isn't present now in GMs. Instead these enemies have *skulls*. So if we go by that logic, that's only another reason why they shouldn't be 50 above us. I only did it once and I'm not touching that again. I'd rather wait until the only 2 pinnacle drops I do want are the daily focus weapons in the pinnacle ops. At least there the difficulty can be adjusted in a number of different ways to give players the best chances of success as was one of the main "selling points" of the portal. The only things that would convince me otherwise is they lower the difficulty to what it's supposed to be (not that we should be capped below the enemy anyway as is the point of a level system and most players are over 500), or they add raid/ dungeon weapons into the GM vanguard alerts as the raid isn't worth it to me, and if I have to increase enemy levels in the dungeon too, they won't be worth it either.

                              Yep using a heavy on a boss and noticing that using your primary is doing equal the amount of damage nearly ( i was using hammerhead with Rewind rounds/target lock hitting for about 22dps and my secondary pulse rifle at like 18dps a sec make that make sense lol) ,having to use the most broken of metas to keep overloads from regeneration to full health instantly in less than a sec of them being unstaggered. Blight attacks that go through walls and 1 shot you aswel as instant freeze stasis rifles on the adds And then we have dungeons with bosses with godly amounts of health so every boss fight feels dragged out unless your a cracked player like estorick
